Shanghai 1814 is an exceptional destination restaurant in an iconic listed building in the heart of Southampton. You won’t have experienced anything quite like it. This is where East meets West in a cacophony of flavour, style, colour and vibrancy. Shanghai 1814 is so-called as the owner’s ancestors opened their first restaurant in Shanghai in 1814 – the time of the Qing Dynasty, China’s final imperial dynasty.

This combination of traditional European architecture with exuberant Chinese interior design is dynamic and exciting. Welcome to Shanghai 1814 and enjoy the ultimate dining experience.

Wow-factor interiors are decadent and glamorous, draped in dazzling chandeliers and adorned with cherry blossom. The menus feature contemporary Chinese dishes that are fresh and flavoursome, created by a Chef who previously worked at Michelin-starred Hakkasan in London’s Mayfair.

Brilliant! I have been twice now and each time I have ordered different food, both times the dishes have been some of the best food I have ever had. We will definitely be back again soon.

We decided to come to Shanghai 1814 for our anniversary meal, and it didn’t disappoint! Service was outstanding, food and drinks were amazing and very prompt. We went for the taste of Sakura set menu for 2 and it was amazing. I definitely recommend this menu and also the food! Will be back again in the future.

We visited for my daughter’s birthday and had such a wonderful time. The food was lovely and the service was fantastic. We love Shanghai 1814.

It was our 1 year anniversary so they surprised us with a free cheesecake to share. It tasted fantastic and was a very nice gesture.

This is an excellent Chinese restaurant with great vegetarian choices, tasty mock tails and great atmosphere and venue. The settings is really nice, the music is really good and the food is brilliant.

Great place to visit for a nice meal. Very friendly and attentive staff. Catered for gluten-free and the menu offering were amazing. Great cocktails and drinks. Amazing presentation and fresh produce and waiting was minimal. Lovethe building and decor and the prices matched the surroundings and fantastic authentic food. Great for big groups or intimate occasions.

Amazing food, great service and a lovely building with exceptional decor. Perfect for a date, birthday, valentines or any other occasion. The food portions were decent and there was no lack of quality. Drinks were delicious with some very unique cocktails. I'd highly recommend Shanghai 1814 to anybody. We had a lovely evening yet again.

An exceptional restaurant in Southampton that we have visited a few times as a treat. The cherry blossom trees and ambient lighting and music makes this a do not want to miss restaurant. Food and service are exceptional. A great place to eat with friends or as a lovely evening out with your better half 🤗. Just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary at Shanghai and they made us feel very welcome. Can’t recommend enough

Beautifully unique restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. Its like stepping into Shanghai. Staff super friendly and food was amazing, definitely worth going!

Third time I’ve been and we absolutely love it. Can’t fault the food or service in anyway. If there was any room for improvement I think maybe a little better lighting. We were at a table where there wasn’t a light positioned above and had to use our phone torch to help see the menu better. Maybe a battery candle could be used at tables without a light above :/
