Shapur Indian Restaurant
Food was excellent with a good menu. The location is very convenient for that part of London and the prices were very good. The service was over friendly, which was initially amusing.
What a lovely dinner. Exceptional service and the food was great!
This is not the Sitar; the restaurant has changed hands and changed names. The currys are no where near the quality of the old restaurant. Avoid.
The name has changed , food was very good, though decor and service are mediocre
5 minute walk from the Savoy Theater; very good food and air conditioned which was a plus the week we were in London!
Great food and fantastic for the Aldwych theatres. Manager was very friendly. Need to keep an eye on the service as waiters appeared tired and not overly good English. As a result we witnessed an autocation between a waiter and a customer that was pretty much down to language issues.
Not terribly pricey for Central London and gold menu. Advised to book at weekends and evenings as evidently theatres plus KC London plus Law Courts make it very busy.
Overall pretty good.
Food was good and tasty. Peshwari Nan was soft and fluffy. What really made our evening was our waiter who was cheerful, helpful with the menu, seemed genuinely pleased to have us dining at the restaurant, gave great service without being obtrusive and cracked a few jokes. Super evening. Thank you Sitar!
This was an absolutely lovely restaurant. I booked it last minute and somehow they still managed to fit us in even though it was full. We had a brilliant spot by the fish tank. The restaurant has a lovely, cozy warm atmosphere and they looked after us well. Wonderful food and very friendly nice service. Would definitely go back.
Went to Sitar with a friend who is a big fan of spicy food. I have been to this restaurant four times now and again it was fantastic. The food has a great flavour to it, so it's not just heat and the portion sizes are good. The service is great and it's a lovely restaurant. I will definitely be going back some time soon.
Great food. Great service.
Nice atmosphere and reasonable food but not happy with portions of starters. Ordered mix and veg platter expecting to share... Got 3 individual items on each, which really wasn't appropriate for the price and concept. Was expecting to share them
Great service and food - although watch for being asked to add a gratuity when paying by credit card when service charge is already included.
Great location for a pre theater meal. Food was excellent and at normal London prices i guess. Around £30 per head. Service was great and very professional.
Went to Sitar in London with two friends for dinner. I have been here twice before and have so far never been disappointed. The food, service, ambiance etc were all great as usual. I will definitely be going back again.
The ambience was amazing, staff were very respectful and gave us time to choose leaving us to enjoy our evening. This restaurant is well worth a visit, clean and food was delicious.
Overall excellent pretheatre meal.... will visit again!
I have visited this restaurant many times over the years and the food remains consistently excellent. Everything on the menu is good but the curried fish is considered particularly good.
The service is friendly and the staff knowledgeable. I would recommend Sitar to anyone who loves curries.
Light, clean well presented restaurant with excellent food. Portion size just right. Easy walking distance to the theatres.
It's a shame I can only award five stars because Sitar deserves 10! While the service was impeccable and friendly, the food was simply delightful, light and exploding with flavor. Every bite was as though a chapter in a story. The chef uses a complex array of spices in a very creative fashion; I'm a foodie and have never had such an experience. My daughters and I celebrated my wife's birthday there prior to a theatre show...and we all walked away astounded by the experience. I'm from Miami and this restaurant alone makes me want to return to London soon. It was that good!
We booked last minute on a Friday and arrived a little early. The staff was excellent and immediately seated us after checking my wife's coat. The excellent service started immediately with a few free items follows by appetizers and spot on recommendations for main entrees and items to share. They were very helpful and attentive when my wife sharing she had never eaten Indian food. After dinner the waiter Uddin made further recommendations for dessert fruit. Then to our surprise Uddin served us a free after dinner drink Bailey's for my wife to make sure the hot spicy remnants were calmed and a nice whiskey for me. Then because we commented how much we liked the food the chef paid us a visit. All and all a great dining experience. Great Indian food and the best service we have ever experienced in Europe or for that matter the US.
We chose Sitar as it was close to the theater we were going to and we were not disappointed. The food was superb and the service perfect. We could not have asked for a better experience.
I felt the portion size was on small side but the quality was excellent!! Very efficient service.
Nice food and kind staff. Off the beaten track. Plain but clean interior
The restaurant was crowded when we arrived but once the crowds dissipated it was calm and quiet. The food selection was good with some dishes not part of the standard fare and dishes were well spiced. The staff were friendly but not always attentive even in the calmer periods of the evening. All in all, we had an enjoyable meal at a reasonable price.
Food was ok (although the lamb samosas to start were really good) but service left quite a bit to be desired. It was like they couldn't really care less whether you were there or not. All in all probably won't bother to return - our search for a decent curry house continues.
Went here on a Saturday night and have to say was very disappointed. The waiter that we had for drinks was really strange - would stare and didn't really answer questions properly. He also couldn't take our food order (someone else had to do that).
Although this restaurant does slightly different dishes, I was very disappointed by the chicken korma (tasted a lot more like a chicken gravy from a packet) and the tarka dal (not very flavourful) overall. The special tandoor chicken masala was very good and worth ordering, but just found the experience disappointing.
Tables were nice and clean, and the ambiance pleasant until another diner - out of restaurant's control, started to play very loudly an Indian video that we could hear from the other side of the restaurant for about 10 minutes. Sadly the restaurant did nothing to ask them to turn it down and just ignored it.
Costs were reasonable for the food but can't really recommend going back
Went for pre-theater, knowing only that we wanted Indian food, the place was listed in Rick Steve's book, and it opened at 5:30 so we could dine at leisure before walking 2 blocks to the 7:30 show. We ended up with a most excellent dinner and made friends with wait staff and owner - very personable in a quiet kind of way. Our knowledge of Indian dishes is just OK, but it allowed for a nice conversation that included a chance to sample a dessert we did not order - a show of courtesy returned for our interest in their food. A starter shared, 2 courses each, a couple glasses of wine and water, done for about 50 Pounds Sterling. For London and location, not to mention good portions of very good food, well worth it.
We booked for 6pm but turned up rather early - before the restaurant was open. The only waiter allowed us in - very kindly - as there were 10 of us. He then tried to sell us a £20 pp sharing menu, when most of only wanted the £12.50 pp pre-theatre menu. There was a £10 pp sharing menu on display outside, but he eventually told us it was only available lunchtimes. Poppadoms were free. We tried to order some extra ones but he definitely had selective hearing. Most of us had the pre-theatre menu (2 courses) which was OK, but I wouldn't rush back for another visit.
Really fast service with excellent food. This has to best the best Indian I have visited in a long time and the food was delicious and well presented.
Ideal before going to the Lion King. The six of us including a 10 and 13 year old enjoyed a delicious meal. The waiters talked to the youngsters and made them feel welcome. Indian classic menu and some specials.
Great food, good value and they don't add service charge which is a rarity these days.
As a lover of Indian food I probably eat a curry 2-3 times a week (staple British diet these days!). Sitar Restaurant's food was excellent - full of flavour and a nice spice balance.
If complaining about the food (which is hard) I'd say the portions are too small compared with most Indian restaurants. As for the service the staff where ok but they seemed a little miserable. The place itself is nothing 'special' but that shouldn't take anything away from a great meal.
Highly recommend anyone looking for a decent India - proper Indian I may add!!
Will visit again!
Great food, good value & attentive service. Wonderful preamble to a night at the theatre.
went with family friends. good food friendly staff
Good restaurant for a bite to eat in the center of town if you are deliberately trying to keep away from the more 'up market' retaurants on the strand. Very tastey food and an interesting menu with some more unusual choices.
Good curry. Friendly and quick service and great location
Nice food without that greasy oil floating on top which some cheap restaurant's have.
Good for couples, nice music while eating, great staff!
Dissapointed no special vegetarian dishes, only sides.
they don't seem to have registered any points on my account
The food itself was very good and tasty - however no thought given to presentation. Service was the same - perfunctory and reasonably swift but with indifference. The price is acceptable but given how good the food is what a shame the package disappoints a little.
I went to the Sitar a few years ago and was very impressed with the food. And going after so many years i was pleased that the good is still very good. being Indian and a foodie we are all very fussy and food is a passion. We were not disappointed. The service is a little sleepy but the beer is cool and the food very tasty and spicy as we asked.
The Tandoori nans they could improve on but the rest of the dishes are all great. generally the food in most Indian restaurants in London is not good and i am pleased to say that i would eat here again. And the waiters are very friendly.
