This is one of the most idyllic pubs we've ever stayed at and we've stayed at a few! Set in the most beautiful location it captures old world charm, character, warmth and the staff are very friendly. The food was out of this world and the room was very cosy. We will definitely be staying here again. Loved every minute!
Beautiful location, super service with an excellent menu.
Good service, good food and very pleasant staff. Christmas decorations are beautiful. Love this place it's so cosy and has a nice ambience. Can't wait to go again.
Very nice food, great place.I thought it expensive for a lunchtime menu
We went for Sunday lunch and it was busy, but service was excellent, friendly and prompt. Lovely food an relaxed ambience
We went on a recommendation in the Yorkshire Life magazine and were really disappointed actually! Sunday lunch was served - we had the beef, but for the very thin slices we got, they were about 50% uneatable fat! The majority of the dinner was lukewarm. The starter was OK but my partner didn't eat his. No sauces offered with Sunday lunch when served 9horseradish etc.) and took us a good ten ins to get the attention of a waitress. Service (apart form that) was really good though and the ambience was nice. I just wouldn't want to spend £25 per head on a 2 course meal that I didn't enjoy really. It's a shame as we really wanted to like it!
A beautiful location with lovely food, friendly professional staff. Must go again.
Lovely meal here staff very professional and friendly and food delicious worth a visit
Had the Tasting Menu. Exceptionally good and creative cooking. Decent value and very good accompanying Wine Flight. The Eggy Bread starter was the standout dish!
Only fault was the batter on the fish was too thick and greasy but other than that service was amazing and bringing children's meals with our starters was perfect touch we will definitely be going again
Lovely food and atmosphere just a pain to get to for Saturday lunch
Lovely tranquil setting, with the traditional country Inn feel
Service was wonderful, very professional and food was delicious.
Stunning food, beautiful old fashioned pub, in a lovely setting we will certainly be back
Excellent ambience, menu selection extensive. Had fish & chips with fish being the size of a whale. Unfortunately batter not cooked enough with orange & lemonade flat (after sending first attempt back because ice included when I specifically requested no ice). If you’re to charge top end prices then details like these should not occur. Overall could do better!
Excellent atmosphere, attentive staff. Slight mix up with wine which was resolved quickly & politely.
A return visit after the deprivations of lockdown - and as good as we remembered it. Good choices available (lunch time menu), good portions, unobtrusive and pleasant service. The food, as before, excellent quality, well presented and delicious.
Fantastic and unusual concoction of ingredients and taste sensations.
very nice everything
Excellent pub and restaurant quality food and friendly staff highly reccomended
Excellent food and service, a must for Sunday Lunch!
A superb experience from start to finish. The Shibden Mill Inn is a lovely, atmospheric old pub set next to a small brook. The building is very welcoming inside, lots of oak beams and tasteful, cosy decor. The slate floored downstairs is really nice but I highly recommend asking for a room upstairs as the high, oak beamed ceiling and the warm colour scheme make for a really nice atmosphere. Service was excellent throughout, very friendly and helpful.
The food itself was superb, great flavours and beautifully presented at every point. We went on a Sunday lunchtime and the standard menu was complimented by a choice of excellent roasts. The dishes are inventive too, a fantastic starter of eggy bread, bacon dashi and hen of the wood mushrooms was outstanding in taste and presentation. Main courses of roast venison, game pie and an excellent sweet potatoe gonchi were all rated very highly. The desserts were equally great, a top drawer sticky toffee pudding and a really imaginative bramley apple desert both highly recommended.
The most amazing thing was the final bill. With an extensive, well organised but extremely reasonable wine list to compliment the amazing value 3 course menu it I was struggling to remember when I last ate as well for such reasonable cost.
We finished the meal with coffees in the extremely comfortable upstairs lounge and could have gladly stayed there for the rest of the day.
Overall I cannot recommend Shibden Mill enough. It has been a long time since I was able to say that I could find nothing negative about the whole experience at all. As a party of 6 every one of us thoroughly enjoyed it all. I hadn't been before but I will definitely be going back very soon indeed.
First time dining. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.
The food was delicious and tasty. The service was prompt and our server was very friendly.
Best Sunday lunch we’ve had in ages! Will definitely be back! Thank you :)
Excellent overall. One suggestion to make good choices clearer as to whether small a la cart or huge fish and chips would be to separate menu into classic selection and a la carte. I never knew what size potion I would get!.. but what came was delicious. Well done
Vegetarian main was seriously bland. Steak was cooked to requirement and enjoyable, however accompanying chips looked and tasted liked yesterday's jacket potato warmed up in the microwave.
It was for a special occasion, and I believed that given they had received an award and recognition in the food world it would be the perfect setting to celebrate, totally underwhelmed and disappointed.
Shibden Mill Inn is an outstanding dining experience, with award winning food, very friendly and helpful staff, plus a really good ambience. Its popularity and reputation is clear, with a packed dining room on all 3 nights we were there. Breakfast is divine with the best black pudding (made on the premises) we have ever had. Only improvement would be a wider vegan menu, as 2 of our party were vegans and only had 2 choices per course.
Vegan food was delicious although my partner food were greasy. But what put a dampener on our evening was the fact that but we were put in the back room with our dogs where we were the only one eating and ppl were drinking around us. It did spoil our evening because of that. If there were a dining room where it was dog friendly then it’ll be a different story but a back room is a back room where no one wanted to go and that in itself did put a dampener on our evening which barely begun.
A beautiful country pub, great ambience and excellent food.
A little under whelmed with the tasting menu. It was a lovely meal/night but we thought it could have been so much better for the price.
The bread and canapés was delicious!
The hens eggy bread - eggs was over cooked, the dashi was none existent, and something we felt could have made at home.
The torched mackerel was lovely, the pickled cucumber and kohlrabi was a nice addition. The horseradish and dill worked really well.
The cod loin and miso was ok - the miso over powdered everything. But the fish was cooked perfectly.
The duck dish again we just felt was ok, the waitress told us it was salted plum, roasted beetroot. We had 2 pieces of salted plum each which was no bigger than 2cm and added nothing to the dish. The roasted beetroot was cold, and didn’t look roasted.
The Apple marigold was possibly the best dish we had but again the miso was far too much. It overpowered the Apple which was a shame.
The final dessert was the chocolate and peanut - the peanut ice cream was lush but the chocolate was rock solid and weirdly like eating a fridged stale sponge.
We had some petit fours brought at the end which was fig leaf and white chocolate, we thought it just tasted of white chocolate and butter.
With regards to service - it was ok. They was all really friendly, and not over attentive. Our only issue was with the wine flight they didn’t go into any detail, they just said Malbec - would have been nice to know a little more. Towards our last courses wine glasses was left empty on the table.
Overall not sure we would rush back.
Would recommend al’a Carte menu but not tasting.
A very special lunch fir a special occasion.
Very friendly and efficient staff and a decent meal.
As always, Shibden Mill Inn is a cosy friendly atmosphere - a pleasure to visit. We had a great time with great food. Who could ask for more?!
Lovely pub with great atmosphere, outstanding service and lovely food, all in a lovely setting
We were quiet disappointed with the menu choice and the quality of the food, compared to previous trips to Shibden Mill. In particular, the food was very salty, the roast potatoes were solid and not crispy, the nut and date roast was mushy, more bread was needed with the liver starter, and the fish dishes seemed undercooked. We found the price expensive for the food received. There was also no child options offered. Sorry to provide such poor feedback
Would had a really lovely meal at the Shibden Mill in. Characterful and well presented establishment, quiet and with the right mood. Food was mainly excellent, only a starter that didnt hit the mark and a dessert that was nice but not as expected, stopped my giving 5 stars. Worth saying it was very good value, compared to others we've tried that failed to deliver what their plaudits claimed, not so the Shibden Mill Inn. Stayed overnight too so would rightly recommend both the restaurant and the accomodation, and would return without a 2nd thought.
Excellent food perfectly presented and incredible delicious and well paired. The shibden butter is well worth a try. And staying overnight is highly recommended!
My Mum specifically asked me to leave a review, she got quite emotional at how nice the food was. :-)
The menu offers an excellent selection and the food was delicious. Our waiter, Ted, was absolutely delightful - we'd return just for him to be honest!
A warm welcome and gorgeous food as ever from the delightful Shibden Mill. Our only complaint would be being seated upstairs. Downstairs dining rooms have more atmosphere and charm and upstairs felt a little empty and sterile by comparison.
