Go quite often. Experience is always fun and food nice. Service needs to come up a bit to a better standard.
It was OK. For some reason, we were not included in the full table experience. We sat in a ‘bad’ place , in between the 2 sides of the table so we were not really included in either side. The chefs dealt with both sides first, then we were cooked for after. Food was OK. Obvious that some chefs are more engaging than others. Not many restaurants (any) where you are asked to move to a different table for the final course.
Overall, quite disappointed.
Dirty table settings for 15 minutes after seating and incorrect value on the bill for £277 instead of £177, slow with drinks orders, chef was entertaining and the food very good, nice meal however work to be completed to raise standards.
Lovely evening, Great food Great Service. All round fun night
The staff were very friendly and the chefs were very entertaining, fire, throwing eggs, letting people have a go. However the food was all served very slowly. For 16 people, 15 had the set menu for £32. This should have been quite easy to serve, but took 2.5 hours end to end, also meaning you got each item at different times e.g. beansprouts were cooked and served when most people had finished all the meat! The food was quite basic on the whole, small amounts of meat and dessert was also very basic- fruit salad or ice cream with squirty cream. For £32 I expected better quality.
Good for the experience but actual food left me a bit disappointed.
The chef was very entertaining and let us have a go at cracking the egg. My 2 girls (aged 2 and 12) both enjoyed watching the chef cook our food. The restaurant was busy on a Saturday night and it took a while for our drinks to arrive. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly.
A great experience for groups or couples alike. The audience participation is fantastic & the chefs are really good sports, great entertainment & fab food too.
Fabulous evening, the Teppanyaki chef on our table was funny, friendly and very entertaining.
All the food was amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.
I booked a table for 2 however we were instead just bundled into 2 chairs inbetween 2 groups with very little room. After ordering we were told we needed to sit at the buffet area, why I don't know as their seemed to be a language barrier. The buffet is £16.95 per head which seemed a little overpriced to me considering the choices available. Overall a disappointing experience and would not go there again.
We had great fun the show chef is so entertaining and charismatic and this is what asked it a worthwhile and enjoyable dining experience
Great service. Full family entertainment along with lovely food.
Sadly very quiet even though a half term lunchtime.
Food flying around means chairs are a bit grubby. But we’ll still go back. It was fun.
Food was fantastic, and the chef was very entertaining. Set menus are great value for money.
Slight grumble, we booked a table for 7:30pm, nobody greeted us and we stood waiting for 15 minutes. We decided to get a drink at the bar and asked the bartender who we need to speak to. A lady acknowledged us 20 minutes after we arrived and asked us to sit in the bar. We finally got seated at 8:05pm. I would have expected a higher level of service. But I understand Saturday nights can get busy.
We arrived at the restaurant prior to our 6pm reservation time. We were behind a large hen party who were seated very quickly. Other parties arrived after us and we’re also seated. As we were being ignored we asked if we could be seated and they said they need to clean the table. They proceeded to seat other parties of people arriving after us again ignoring us and not acknowledging that we were still waiting to be seated. We ended up leaving and we’re totally dejected and amazed by this poor level of customer service. We were actually out for a birthday celebration and would no go here again and certainly would not recommend it.
We arrived at the restaurant with a booking at 8.30pm and they told us there was no booking, after 5 minutes of showing my opentable reservation to the staff they said to wait 5 minutes to be seated. It got to 9pm and we eventually left as nothing was happening, very poor and won’t be going again
The ambience was ok and I was fully expecting to see and hear the entertainment part of the tepanyaki that was fine and I would recommend people to go there for that only. However, we ordered from noodle menu and food was good and priced accordingly, it was fairly cheap from udon so I didn't expect much and was neither disappointed or surprised. Service was very slow considering there were very few other tables who were not at the tepanyaki grill and so couldn't understand what was causing the delay. This experience was all rather "meh"....
It was really nice atmosphere and the waiter and waitress were all really nice. However, I wouldn’t say it’s authentic Japanese food off the main menu. Still tasted great though.
We went for my son's birthday when booking they table I made them aware it was his birthday. He had been asking to Go for a while. The food was ok salad was born in places they didn't make any attempt to celebrate his birthday not even a happy birthday. I think for how much you pay they could of made a little bit of an effect
Met up with friends and had a good time. The food was more than good and we will return. However as I’ve said before there needs to be a serious overhaul of the toilet situation. You should not have to have sharing toilets, it’s not very pleasant for the girls as they are not kept clean. One of the couple with have said they would not return because of this. I genuinely believe it’s a potential health hazard. In a nutshell. Great place and great food-try and hold it in until you leave.
Great atmosphere, entertaining dining experience. Would definitely recommend.
Very rushed service. Staff tried to clear starter plates whilst we were still eating.
Great evening of good food and entertainment! Chefs are brilliant with the teppanyaki! Would definitely recommend for groups/special occassions! Only downside was the mangeress, every time I have been she has been very rude and there is always an error on the bill so ensure you know what your paying for! But I wouldn’t judge the whole place on her, the rest of the team are brilliant and friendly!
Great entertainment! Food were great. Staff were nice and accommodating
Great place to eat. The staff are very friendly and know how to entertain. I would highly recommend that you go as a group as the more there are of you the more fun there is to be had. The chefs cook on the spot and are very energetic and great fun. Gem of a place!
Terrible service. Charged for food I didn’t order, when I challenged the bill staff were patronising and rude. Cocktails are awful- a margarita on the rocks is literally cheap tequila poured over 2 ice cubes. Presentation of food is a mess. Left the restaurant stinking of fish! Would definitely advise people to stay away!!
Our first visit , what an incredible evening , the food was to die for , service was excellent , a brilliant birthday celebration meal
Can’t say anything but fantastic and excellent restaurant 5*. Staff very friendly restaurant wonderful atmosphere. Brilliant for any occasion be it special Or just a date night meal.
Went here for my wife's 30th a group of 12 of us went and every single one commented on what a good meal it was! Will come again
Good environment, good food, good company, good day!
Will re-visit another day!
Been to Shogun two times now, both times were a fantastic experience :)
Been going to the Shogun for around 20 years when it was in Broad Street and been going every couple of months since. Just feels in gradual decline in terms of entertainment and service. Never enough staff and could do with a refit, particularly the lighting and noise levels need addressing. Will still go as I still love the concept but I just dont get that special feeling anymore.
Having never eaten japanese food before I was worried that I wouldnt find anything I would like on the menu.
I need not of worried as there was range of meats with different sauces , vegatables and rice, everybody in our party of 8 found something they liked.
We went to celebrate an 18th birthday and the chef was amazing very entertaining whilst cooking our food in front of us, he also got those who wanted up to take part.
Overall we had a brilliant night and everyone enjoyed there food.
I would definatly go back again.
Great experience, staff were attentive and the value of the meal in general was great, we opted for the special menu (teppanyaki). We couldn’t believe you got all 4 options (salmon, prawns, chicken and steak). Amazing value and would definitely go again.
V good food and service!!
Teppenyaki is not just a meal it is an experience. Be prepared to meet new people as dining is shared if in a small group. Food excellent and chefs are amazingly entertaining.
Recommend for a a great experience at any time of the day.
Took my girlfriend. We love eating out and thought this would be different and fun, and it definitly was. We had a great time, loved the food and Japanese lager. Was a perfect place and way to finish the weekend in a great location. Definitly recommend.
Conveyor belt all you can eat sushi plates. Quite tasty, fresh, good value. Very consistent, very predictable.
Tepanyaki experience Is great for large groups, someone cooking in front of you, can be a bit of a show if you like.
Try this place at least once. It might become a favourite.
The chef was very entertaining like our last visit and included us within his cooking show and incorporated everyone including the kids. Food could do with some more flavour for some of the dishes but overall good quality food and service.
Had a groupon voucher as a gift so difficult one to review.
Voucher stated 5 courses still trying to work out what the 5 courses were but think courses were:-
2: spring roll.
3: chicken skewer.
4. 4 prawns and small bowl egg fried rice.
5. Half of small chicken breast with bean sprouts.
Chicken was very dry and seemed old and tough. No sight of any noodles.
Husband had a sliver of salmon and 2 prawns, I asked for no salmon hence the 4 prawns.
No tapanyaki razzamatazz show that is usually part of the experience so no atmosphere at all as it was the afternoon and only my husband and myself sat at the hot plate in fact in this part of restaurant we were the only customers.
The guy who cooked our food told us he was the guy who prepares all the food ready for the qualified chefs who only work after 7 unfortunately the coupon only valid till 4 fri/sun and 7 mon/thurs. Actually as we were finishing our drinks the same guy was unloading a van!
A customer did arrive at the end of our meal and the food which he picked from the restaurant menu looked really good and plentiful which only confirms on a groupon offer as my past experience has shown whether restaurant or beauty treatments you dont get the real deal more of a taster in portion size and only performed or cooked by trainees or junior staff so not really a bargain.
Coupon cost £29 and was supposed to be worth £58. Menu showed no food choice for the £58 price stated.
Given 3 stars for the multi tasking receptionist/waitress/bar tender (same person) and the young guy who prepared and cooked the food and unloaded the van as they were lovely.
Had a very entertaining meal at the chefs table for my sons 19th birthday - 83 year old mum also really enjoyed the chefs skills !
all our party of 10 enjoyed the food , the service was good and the entertainment provided
by the at table chef added to the evening
