Enjoyed Shotgun for post theatre supper. Food very good and interesting. Helpful, friendly service. Room too dark and chilly near the door.
Great dinner at Shotgun. The decor is cool and has a vintage feel. Great cocktails, friendly service and the very best cornbread!! Recommended
Very nice staff and chef, excellent food of a uniqueness and true to US gourmet grit!!
Shotgun is by far the best bbq in London! The beef rib and baby back ribs were cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the restaurant is really lovely too. This is perfect for a date night or catching up with friends.
We had an expensive and tasty-but-not-exceptional dinner here. Having eaten at many genuine BBQ joints in the southern US states, I had wishfully believed Shotgun's hype and hoped for something remarkable. Although the ambience felt suitable enough, it just did not deliver on its promises unfortunately. We were also let down by patchy service.
Read rave reviews and thought we'd give it a go. Glad we tried but not our cup of tea. Lovely staff but the menu was tiny and no draught beers as the taps were broken. Nice cosy venue .
I love BBQ and I work in the area, so I decided to give Shotgun a go and booked a table for two.
The day after they called me asking to confirm my reservation. When we got to the restaurant, a few minutes earlier than expected (7pm instead of 7.15pm) there were plenty of free tables; however, they wanted us to seat at the bar pointing out that we were among the latest to book. I explained to them that no one mentioned sitting at the bar, ever. So they told me that they wanted us to seat at the bar because - apparently - I asked for a 90+ min slot. That did never happen, though! Anyways, I had to insist to finally have a suggestion for a small table. We ordered a brisket, a goat shoulder and a baked potato puree (£34 with two 20cl Cokes). Despite the tiny portions, the meat was decent. However, the baked potato puree was super sticky and definitely not so good. We left before 8pm, not sure if we'll ever be back. If you're a BBQ lover, Smokehouse in Chiswick or Red's True Barbecue in Shoreditch are the places you want to go to.
Nice menu. Liked their own sauces which were a nice touch and added good flavour. My friends wanted some chips which weren't available. Ribs and Brisket were best mains. Pork belly needed some crackling. Chicken wings for starter were good as ever. Nice slaw and cucumber salad but more green sides would be good as rich menu.
Mediocre food, although the honey butter corn bread is out of this world - probably worth a visit in itself. The ribs and brisket were ok only - certainly not the best in London, let alone worthy of comparison to anything you can get in the US.
The place is nice enough, but super noisy and you'll hear every conversation snippet from the next table, and the table next to that!
Delicious food but desserts need improvement!!
Really lovely evening out. Great relaxed atmosphere with great tasting wholesome food. Waiting staff were friendly and very attentive. Have to give a shout out to the dirty rice!
Very cool, Southern American style diner but with a sexy vibe. Really enjoyed my evening here. If delicious comfort food is your thing, you will too. Service was friendly and attentive. Would have been nice not to be rushed off the table after 1.5 hours. Unfortunately there was no time to sample the dessert or cocktail menu. I know the score at these London restaurants, it's all about turn around, but I still would have expected two hours at the table. That was the only down side. I would still recommend it highly, suggest you don't talk over dinner and then you might have time for dessert too!
Quality ribs, unlike the other fast food joints around London. Not crazy expensive and has some good alternatives if ribs are not your thing. The side dishes are all very tasty and the chili con carne out of this world (they make it with baby back ribs meat).
Really enjoyed this restaurant, it is quite understated and laid back with good music and an interesting decor. The service was efficient and friendly ensuring we felt at home. We really enjoyed all of our food: the ribs, pork belly, chicken and cornbread were fantastic. The burnt ends were good but didn't quite hit the highs of the other dishes. I felt that portions were reasonable and worked well when shared across the table though I can see why people might say they're slightly on the small side if ordering just for themselves. The quality of the meat really shone through.
Overall a really enjoyable experience.
Really good atmosphere and the food was excellent - it's as close to American-style BBQ cooking that I've found in London, with a very upmarket vibe.
The food is very good but the portions are small. You definitely won't feel stuffed after the dinner. Good if you are not very hungry
It was delicious and a nice, quieter spot within busy soho.
This was just perfect for lunch out on a day in London for two pensioners!! The Brisket was outstanding (Burnt Ends especially) and the Molasses desert was a revelation.
The ambience is really calm and peaceful, the staff were informative and hard-working without intruding. Strongly recommended for good food, calm atmosphere and the chance to talk to one's lunch companion.
Delicious BBQ food - best I've had in ages - and a really friendly waiter made for a lovely evening.
Very good food and great service. Particularly enjoyed the burnt ends brisket and the cornbread. Will be returning!
The food was tepid and our table didn't give the right kind of ambience, being positioned at the back of the restaurant overlooking a brightly lit temporary storage area.
Cosy table for 2, vibrant atmosphere. Hearty meaty dishes. Staff friendly.
We had a fantastic dinner at Shotgun; the food was delicious and the service was great. Couldn't believe how delicious the house wine was! My only criticism was that the brisket portions seemed quite small, although in our case the massive portion of ribs more than made up for it. Would definitely visit again.
Second visit - less impressed than first - food great, but let down by service. Arrived to find hostess on phone and waiting on hold - and she was very disgruntled that she had to put phone down and seat us; told us we were downstairs |(where I know there is more space) but then no one would take us downstairs, so we were seated at tiny table near bar. Apparently that had been over-ruled as a big party was coming in later. General issue in here is that tables are small and space is very restricted. Food excellent, and served surprisingly quickly (we didn't order cornbread) - pretty much "fast food" - probably within 7 minutes of ordering. Happy hour on cocktails before 7pm but you get 2 of the same one, you can't mix and match between you. However, when we had finished eating, and had been seated just about an hour, we were asked to move to the bar to finish our drinks as the table was needed for the next customers. I checked with the Host who advised me that all bookings are for 1 hour 15 minutes - however, the open table slot in my diary was for 1 1/2 hours, so there is a discrepancy here, plus we hadn't been seated 1 1/4 hours, so this felt rather unwelcoming. I understand that if you want a table for more than 1 1/4 hours you can call the restaurant direct and agree this.
Had heard good things, unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. Service was poor, I don't know if it was just that our table was neglected as it was at the back.. But nothing that was meant to be brought to us was... the waitress appeared very inexperienced. Food was brought out cold, lacking flavor, and sauces not brought to the table until near the end...
I'd love to say it was great but unfortunately we didn't even eat there when we were told on arrival that chicken and another main dish were off the already slimmed down menu. Maybe they should have told us this when they called to confirm the reservation earlier in the day to at least give us a chance of booking elsewhere.
Fabulous BBQ and sides!!!
Delicious as always. Portions a tad on the small side, but value for money good, and taste superlative. Bannana pudding worth the trip on its own. No pig's ear pancakes though the day we were there..
Great place to have an American style meat feast, everything we had off the menu was delicious. The only anomaly was the waiting staff seemed to be a little disconnected from what the kitchen could provide, various things on the menu weren't available according to the waiter, but this was contradicted when we asked them to check with the kitchen.
We assumed it was because it was a pretty new place and not everything was running as smoothly as it should.
Highly recommended as a place to enjoyed a good meal with friends and colleagues.
Nice ambiance and friendly staff. Food is American-style comfort food (think Man vs Food), the best of which are the dishes that remain truest to their origins (I maintain that macaroni cheese should at the very least contain macaroni!). In Shotgun, the meat is definitely the star of the show and is perfectly pleasant, but I can't help thinking it's all a bit dull. In America, this stuff comes best with some seriously unhealthy (but delicious) sides and is all the better for it. The portions seem a bit 'calculated' for what are supposed to be home-style recipes, but the addition of an eating challenge to the desert menu is a fun idea (the fun being slightly tempered by the fact that you have to book it in advance). A few more choices of beer (not lager) on tap wouldn't go amiss. The bottled selection isn't bad although just because I like beer doesn't mean that I don't know how to drink out of a glass - serving it in a can is not impressive.
All v good, however we were seated at the bar, even though we booked in advance. Would have much rather have sat at a table. I feel that the bar should only be for last-minute walk ins.
Good food, quite small portions though. Brisket was a winner!
I booked this restaurant with open table was given a day, a time, a reference number and when
I arrived they had no sign of any booking ...but managed to squeeze us in
Really good quality food. Interesting and delicious. Amazing sazarac!! Reminded me of New Orleans.
Still the best BBQ restaurant in London! Great service and amazing food.
Absolutely delicious, refined BBQ food. Not a chip in sight! Brisket was heaven, ribs apparently very good, and definitely go for the Mac and cheese. A little pricey but not to be missed.
The food was amazing and the staff was very friendly.
Great music too.
Love this place.
Had a really disappointing experience here. Went on a date and wanted to find something authentic for BBQ-style and came across this place.
I'll be honest, if it wasn't for the great wine (nice Syrah) this place would get a one star.
The menu was restrictive, they only had chicken for large groups - who does that?
When the food came it was cold and very small. I had the "lean" brisket which, quite frankly, tasted like Luke-warm corned beef.
Our complaint was only met by a "I'm sorry" and no follow up was taken.
After 75 minutes we were asked to vacate the table without even being offered dessert. Suffice to say we didn't move.
As soon as the nice bottle of wine was over, we left and will not be going back again.
Fortunately the hilarity of the experience actually made for a good date!
Not a great start when I tripped on a large hole in the floor. No apologies forthcoming.
My brisket was ok but my friends pulled pork was about 80% fat.
Service a little over attentive, dishes swept away as soon as we put our forks down felt very much like they wanted to rush us out for the next diner.
We ate until we couldn't, and then we ate some more. Thanks for putting the perfect full-stop on our nine years together.
