Shoulder Of Mutton Pub
The Shoulder of Mutton – the oldest pub in Fordham dates back to 1380 and was originally built as a private house for a yeoman farmer who owned land in the area and provided work for locals. Years later it became an inn with earliest licencing records dating back to 1769. However, the date may have been shortly after Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries, around 1536, when travellers were forced to find alternative accommodation and the inn as a social amenity was born.
The parlour of the building was at one stage used as a butcher's shop, hence the name - The Shoulder of Mutton.

Nice location by the River Colne on the edge of a small village. Good service, pleasant staff and a good Sunday lunch at a moderate price. The well kept Doombar was excellent!
Really great food despite being very busy served quickly and altogether even with a child with multiple allergies. Maybe another staff member doing the bar alone would help but great overall!
Nice family meal we all enjoyed the food and service.
See you again.
Used Groupon vouchers for an evening out, probably picked the wrong evening as only one other couple in restaurant when arriving, another couple did come in but really the place was very quiet. Full Menu wasn't available to us so generally small menu. Waiter very polite and curtious food was fairly good but as mentioned before restricted menu.
Certainly could have done with more customers to give better ambience for the evening.
Ordered the Moussaka which was awful. Not like a real moussaka just a bowl of sloppy minced lamb. When the bill arrived the offer of 2 courses for £12.95 had not been adjusted so that had to be pointed out and amended. The member of staff asked if meal was ok to which I replied No to which he didn’t respond and just processed the payment. My partner enjoyed the pie and the interior was nicely done
A lovely riverside pub with rustic fratures, friendly staff and great food
After a walk from Wakes Colne on a bright and sunny morning had a lovely Sunday lunch. Roasts were great, lovely beef and a nice lentil and nut cutlet.
We went for our 5 month anniversary (any excuse for a night out) and it was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the food was very tasty. The pub has a friendly atmosphere although it was very quiet on the evening we went - one other couple when we got there. I would definitely recommend this pub and will be going back, if you want a quiet country pub which serves good food then this is one to try :-)
Excellent service and food
Excellent Sunday roast and excellent service
Best prawn starter ever ever ever ever ever ever ever!
The Service was first class
Fantastic food and service with a lovely friendly atmosphere throughout and will definitely recommend to others and will also be returning when we are in the local area again
Lovely pub and very friendly service. Good food and good value.
Highly recommended food. Value for money. Very welcoming
Had our wedding anniversary evening meal there, the service was first class everyone wished us a happy anniversary, and the rib eyed steaks that we had were cooked perfectly, will be back!
Always nice place to eat. Service was a bit slow and bar man seemed like he didn't like working sundays but a nice place with good food. Prices have gone up since I last went in a Sunday but would return.
