An outstanding, small restaurant serving extraordinary and delicious dishes. We went on a Friday evening as we live in the area. Wine, service and ambience were excellent. Don’t forget to try the deserts!
Beautiful, innovative and really tasty small plates, perfect for sharing. Really good value, also for wine. Friendly service, good vibes.
Really hit and miss. Some dishes were good, some were almost laughable (quarter of cos lettuce head and some mayo for a starter as an example). Portions were also tiny considering its a menu designed for sharing. We ordered 6 plates between 2, as recommended if "you are really hungry" by the waitress and still weren't satisfied.
As a couple who value sustainable, in-season produce the ethos of Silver Lining really spoke to us.
We popped in for a quick bite but stayed to sample the entire menu.
The quality was impeccable, the wine recommendations were on point and the service was friendly, knowledgable and attentive.
All-in-all a perfect evening. We cannot wait to return with friends.
The food was a set menu when we were there and it was both interesting and delicious. The wine was well matched and the service was really attentive. We had a thoroughly great evening.
Excellent food, great wine service and lovely staff. Highly recommended!
Seemingly outstanding Google ratings tended to mask the somewhat disjointed way the service and menu flowed together. It was good, don't get me wrong, but the menu items seemed somewhat disconnected from each other. The space could be a little warmer and the open kitchen made a little less open.
Food was gorgeous, super tasty with lots of flavour. Really nice vibe, and great service. Would definitely recommend.
Great service and ambiance...but shocked at the price of the food, for what you get. The portions were outrageously small and flavours were fine/good but no where near exciting/ interesting enough to warrant the cost of the bill!
Went here for a little bite after the theatre with the Mrs. Cosy and quiet, service attentive. Menu is small (which isn’t a bad thing) tapas like portions and tasty. Good range of wines/cocktails. Was recommended 5/6 dishes, but as were more on the side of peckish, we had 4 main plates, 2 alcoholic drinks and a dessert to share which came up to about £60. Value could be better in our opinion given what we had. Would recommend/visit again.
New menu is not really exciting you can eat chinken like that every where. New menu is not special as before 😔
I'm someone who's hesitant with food, and not super adventurous (vegetarian and a picky eater), so I had checked the menu days before making this booking, and found plenty that I was willing to have. On my way to the restaurant, I looked again and panicked because the menu had changed -- after a minute or two of reading though, I can now tell you that at least two versions of the menus have been extremely vegetarian friendly. Between me and my companion we ordered almost everything on the menu, and had no complaints about any of it. None of the dishes were complex, but they all worked together really well.
Really good food and menu is seasonal based, the dishes are good to share
This is just a great place to go and enjoy delicious food, in a charming environment with great service. It is one of my favourite places in London
Based on other reviews I had hoped for a decent meal in the middle of Hackney Central. The staff were friendly and the ambiente is welcoming. The menu read well and just as quirky as one would expect in this postcode. The food however was very disappointing - a "Bitter Sweet Salad of Many Threads" turned out to be a rather bland mixture of cabbage, apple and some other whitish vegetables. The "Preserved vegetable omelette" was, to the best of my knowledge, the same with a bit of scrambled egg in the mix. Spices seem not to have a place in this cuisine. This reminded me of my student days - "let's see what's left in the fridge" cooking adventures.
There's plenty of good restaurants in Hackney nowadays. Go elsewhere.
Outstanding cooking from Chef Edgar Wallace. Equally outstanding service from the Silver Lining team.
I've been fortunate enough to try Edgar's cooking on several occasions over the past few years and have really seen him develop and grow from strength to strength; Edgar's really demonstrated his ability to master any cuisine, to coin his own signature dishes and take on many a new challenge, and has approached it with total zen and humility. That takes guts in the world of hospitality.
The staff at Silver Lining are an absolute dream. So friendly, professional and efficient, so knowledgeable, yet not pretentious, nor patronising. Their somm chose a perfect wine to pair with our meal and let us sample other wines to ensure we'd made the right choice. I only wish we'd have had more time to linger.
I would come back everyday based on this dining experience. What an absolute treat.
Great food, great service, but music too loud for easy conversation - if this matters to you.
Nice restaurant with tasty original food. A bit expensive for what we ate.
Such a find in a busy spot not necessarily where you would expect such classy unusual food! Every dish was delicious, the cocktails were fab and the service absolutely charming and super cool. Will go back.
Absolutely loved the food here. Yummy cerviche, great chips and curry sauce and lovely duck. A rare night out for me and my husband and we loved sitting in the window people watching. The cocktails were potent and delicious too.
Quite disappointed really, since we very much looked forward to this one, even though the plates were very creative and well executed and the staff was friendly.
The fact is that we left hungry, given the portions are really tiny (and we are not big eaters) and especially if you consider their price.. and how slowly our plates arrived (only 1 person in the kitchen on a Saturday night?)
Really don't mind paying extra for quality and creativity, but I cannot accept leaving hungry from a restaurant after paying £80.
Cherry Tapenade with the duck was phenomenal
Great food! Nice new find in Hackney Central :)
Nice small restaurant serving excellent food. I will definitely come back!
Wine list could be improved.
Lovely local spot, the service was very attentive and friendly and make us want to go back.
The food was good, the idea of sharing small plates is always a tricky one to get right as a customer, they are all at the same price and some were tiny tiny while others were good portions. There were basically no carbs served so we needed a few to get full and that was reflected on the bill.
The dessert was one of the best dessert I have had in London. Very indulgent and would highly recommend it. The cocktail bar next door is also worth a visit!
Excellent! Great food and really friendly people
Had a lovely birthday dinner for 8, with specially printed set menus and a welcome drink. Delicious small plates, great Frose/Friesling slushies, very accommodating service and good tunes. Every Cloud does great cocktails, too, next door!
This is a regular for us and its absolutely stunning! We love the food and the atmosphere!
Great food. small portion with quality.
will definitely go back again.
Had an amazing meal at Silver Lining - only a few items on the menu but all executed beautifully. I will definitely go back!
Very very pleasantly surprised by the food. Unassuming-looking place belies the obvious skill of the chef. All plates tasted were original yet well-balanced in flavour. Waiting staff were pleasant and knowledgeable. Extra dessert given which the chef was working on was a welcome surprise and topped off a fantastic meal. We will be back!
Went to Silver Lining twice in 5 days, which was fantastic as it gave me the chance to try other things on the menu that I had missed on my first visit. Amazing, inventive food with food/flavour combinations that seem a bit strange on paper but which actually taste wonderful. The staff are fantastic, the venue is stylish but relaxed, the wine selection is good. I definitely recommend and will be going back again soon. I eat out a lot and my meals at Silver Lining are definitely in my top 10. My two favourites were the duck and the salmon sashimi. My words cannot do justice to those dishes. Go along and try them yourself! Incredibly talented chef!
The service was amazing and the chef clearly paid attention to detail when dishing up the food. It looked as good as it tasted. The two ladies that served us were lovely! Thankyou.
Lovely times at the Silver Lining, the service was super nice and attentive, the food very exciting and creative and the atmoshpere was just right for date night. Will happily return.
The food was excellent Nd the staff very sweet and attentive. Will visit again very soon.
We were made to feel very welcome and had a wonderful evening sampling all the dishes on the menu. Will definitely be back next time we're visiting London.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful when providing recommendations for plates. The food was incredible. We had five dishes between two of us and every dish was excellent. Would highly recommend Silver Lining for anyone looking for a date night restaurant .
We had a great night at Silver lining.....the food was next level amazing. We ordered almost every dish and there wasn’t a single one that wasn’t incredibly tasty. The service was nice and although it was pretty quiet I would go back in a heartbeat for the food.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The food (lots of small plates) and the wine were truly delicious and the service was excellent.
Nice ambiance and friendly, attentive staff, however, the plates were overly fussy and underwhelming. A lot of attention to presentation little on flavour and small plates delivered slowly one at a time meant we were eating one fork full every 10 or so minutes. We left unsatisfied. Probably not helped by having only one chef in the kitchen - not sure if that is a normal night.
Ordered one of most dishes on the menu. Expected portions to be tiny but actually they were fairly decently sized! Every single dish was amazing. Wine was also great. Staff were lovely and the restaurant itself is nicely. The bill was cheaper than expected! Overall a great experience and will definitely be returning. Can’t fault it.
