Sindhu by Atul Kochhar
Located in The Compleat Angler Hotel, a stone’s throw from Marlow station, guests will find a menu of beautifully refined dishes including Manglorean Duck Tikka, Lamb Dum Biryani and Kadhai Prawns. A selection of delicious Vegetarian and Pescatarian options are also available at this award winning restaurant.
Extremely overpriced for what it is. A chicken curry main dish with no sides was £26. The food was nice, but definitely not worth the prices. The restaurant is pleasant and atmosphere is nice, but the staff make the service too rushed- my partner and I were chatting for a few minutes while looking at the food and drink menus and we were asked almost as soon as we got the drinks menu if we knew what we wanted, then asked if we were ready to order our food twice. We weren’t taking a particularly long time, I found this pushy and in a restaurant where it is so expensive I don’t expect to be rushed. Our bill was £60/ head for 2 main dishes, 3 alcoholic drinks (1 cocktail and 2 beers), 2 breads, 2 side dishes and 1 bottle of water (water at £5/bottle...). The food and service simply doesn’t live up to the prices, go elsewhere.
Four of us dined, 3 of us chose the 7 course pescatarian tasting menu and our 5 year old boy had the 5 course tasting menu.
Fantastic all round, service, food, atmosphere and value for money.
We will definitely return soon.
Well done Sindhu!
We decided to have the 7 course tasting menu with pairing wines. Tastes were very subtle and delicate. Really enjoyed our evening at Sindhu.
The food was good however very limited options for vegetarian. My wife did tell the wait at the beginning she’s a vegetarian and was told to look at a la cart menu as well. However at the end of the meal, manager asked for feedback where the limited veg options was mention and he informed that all food could have been offered, even if not on the menu. Wish this was mentioned by the waiter. The food however was very good and the ambience lovely. The cocktails were fantastic!
Wonderful food in very pleasant surroundings with a lovely view of the river.
7 course taster menu was excellent. Each dish perfectly cooked and served hot where appropriate. Meal took just over two hours which allowed time between courses.
We visited for my husband's 50th birthday - we are great fans of Indian food and have been to several 'high end ' Indian restaurants in London. The service could not be faulted, and some of the dishes were really exceptional - the lamb chop, the rabbit, the duck. However, the curries (lamb and smoked chicken) lacked any presentation at all and would have been at home in any high street curry house. The portions both of the starters and the main meals were very generous indeed and I would recommend sharing a starter as having ordered a starter each, we did not have enough room to really do the main dishes any justice.
This was our second visit to Sindhu, and it was just as good as the first time. Both the tasting menu and the weekend set lunch menu are great value, and the food was delicious on both occasions. Fine Indian dining with all the satisfaction of a trip to your favourite curry house. Love it!
EXCELLENT FOOD, WITH VERY MODERN FLAVOURS, PLUS THE INTEGRATING OF GAME AND TRADITIONAL INDIAN FOOD, MADE FOR AN ENJOYABLE EVENING
Excellent food, outstanding service, I have allergies and the staff went above and beyond to cater for me
Please open a Chinese restaurant of this quality!
Amazing restaurant experience. Great food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere. Good value fine dining.
Excellent choice of dishes , staff were every helpful to explain the dishes when requested. Staff professional and discrete. Food was superb
Everything was good except that there was a bit of plastic in the dessert. When pointed out it was immediately replaced but was not billed.
Just like your neighborhood good Indian restaurant. Doesn't deserve the michelin stars at all.
We have been to Sindhu a number of times and really enjoy the modern take on the Indian flavours. The food was excellent again this time with the prawn starter being absolutely wonderful. The only slight gripe is the service was very all over the place with too many people interacting and constantly fussing over the table! Highly recommended and we will be going again...
Sindhu was very good. I went with 2 colleagues who are experienced diners in good restaurants. We were all impressed and will return.
I had booked a special deal via Open Table, but Sindhu had no information about this. Fortunately I had taken the paperwork I had printed, so it worked out OK, but it is not a good way to start a meal with discussions about payment. This is likely to be the fault of Open Table not advising the restaurant.
Amazing food and excellent service. The staff were so helpful
Mediocre food and service. The purpose of the tasting menu should be to showcase the best that the restaurant has to offer. We were not impressed. I’m a fan of Atul Kochar but his team at the Sindhu have let him down on this occasion.
Our visit saved our Silver Wedding Anniversary from being a disaster. We'd stayed the night before at one of the cottages via The Hand and Flowers and also had an incredibly disappointing meal there which was quite upsetting as we'd been looking forward to it for a long time. We arrived at Sindhu with some trepidation but we needn't have worried. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious - we chatted to a couple of neighboring tables who were all equally enjoying their lunch. Well done everyone - it was lovely meal and experience.
Firstly, the food at each level of service is of exceptional quality and taste, the service and friendliness of the staff is first class and the presentation of food by the chef is mouth watering.
This was a special visit to mark 10 years since me and my husband first met in Marlow. The 7 course tasting menu was just perfect for us and very tasty too. Wine pairing, although quite pricey was a hit with my husband. Cocktails were great too. We had an amazing time!
From the moment we arrived the service was outstanding. Nothing was to much trouble and the service was attentive rather than obtrusive. I have eaten in some top quality restaurants but the food here exceeded them. The flavours were amazing. Top all of this with a fantastic venue and you’ll do well to find better.
Amazing food and service, would highly recommend! A really lovely evening out.
Wonderful journey through creative and well spiced dishes perfect way to celebrate a wedding anniversary
This was our second visit and we loved it just as much as our first. Great venue, outstanding food and ambience, superb service!
Excellent as usual
Very good value set lunch menu and reasonable wine list
Beautiful food, very delicately flavoured and presented impeccably
The service and wine was good and the cocktails tasty, but needed a small cocktail type embellishment to make them more appealing to the eye.
However, we thought the food was good but very expensive for what the dishes were. Eg the Hyderabad lamb and the chicken masala were fairly standard curries which were similar to many other quality Indian restaurants and didn’t reflect the high standards and special touches that Benares had for example. The lamb biryani was better value and a little bit different to the norm, but the bread basket was poor - very hard to distinguish the stuffed paratha from the peshwari & garlic naans as the texture was very thin and dry and the flavours were very similar.
The pannacotta dessert was disappointing- it came set in a small round dish which looked and tasted like it had been prepared hours before, if not the previous day. Other desserts were coming out where the separate components were served on a plate, as I would expect from a restaurant of this quality. Poor. We also didn’t understand why a small birthday brownie was brought out after coffee for my husband - as if it was an afterthought & had been forgotten - it was a bit awkward as we were just preparing to pay the bill and leave.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch there. Food was excellent as was the service and the lunch menu offers good value. We will back.
The kitchen had a technical hitch which left us waiting an hour before we got any food. We were having the tasting menu which should be seamless given it is an exhibition of the talents of the kitchen but we arrived at 1930 and only got to the main at 2200. Although the staff were apologetic they weren’t attentive and also forgot a round of drinks I would not return.
Arrived at Sindhu with great expectation and were not disappointed.
Immaculate service, stunning setting, an incredible menu with inventive and delicious dishes made it a night to remember!
We arrived at 7 o clock and decided to order the tasting menu. There were 7 of us. The food started to come but was being delivered with long intervals in between each course. We ended up having our dessert at 10.30! It was until we started to complain then realised everyone else was complaining at the service that we were told there was a technical issue in the kitchen. If only they had been open with us in the beginning then we could have chosen something easier. However the food that we had was very good!
This was vastly overpriced mediocrity. The food was poorly presented, the lamb curry consisted of half a dozen pieces of not-very-tender lamb in a sea of gravy. The popadom starter was odd and minuscule. The service was good if lacking in individuality, it felt over-trained. Frankly we’d have done far better going to our local Indian restaurant. The price was extortionate. Sorry but really not satisfactory
Service was good, and the food much improved compared to the last time we were there. The prawn curry was very good. Although I hazard to guess the complimentary starter of popadoms and prawn crackers were not as fresh as they should be. And should they be serving prawn crackers in an Indian restaurant ??
The food was delicious and cocktails reasonably priced - supported by exceptional table service. We had a lovely time. Yes it can be argued it’s a little price for a ‘curry’ but the portions were big, the food delicious and the service exceptional. So all in all absolutely worth it.
I decided to book Sindhu for my 10 year wedding anniversary meal. It did not disappoint. We opted to try the Tasting menu with the paired wines and it was amazing. Possibly the best culinary experience of my life!
As we worked our way through the courses they just built getting better and better. The whole evening was a delight and I look forward to returning soon.
Wow. Just wow !!!
What a dining experience.
We love our Indian cuisine and this didn't destroy our relationship with the food.
The table staff couldn't make the seating any better. No-one could do enough for us.
Thank you for making the day so enjoyable.
The food was in the main disappointing . As we had not been to this restaurant before we relied on reviews which seemed very good. Starters were fine but the main courses lacked flavour , especially the lamb dish.
Also the table we had for four of us was a large round table and it was difficult to hold a conversation due to the background noise. Don’t mind paying high prices for great food, but we had the prices without the quality.
First time at Sindhu. Service and Staff were excellent. Food tasty. A very enjoyable evening.
