Good food. We felt health and safety coronavirus training needed to be improved.
1) Ill-fitting masks constantly falling below noses.
2) water constantly being refilled bringing waiter into close contact with customer
could have left full carafe with us.
3) My card was taken from me by waiter even though it was a contactless payment which didn't need to happen
Visited for brunch. Food good and service excellent, but it was more lunch with a few breakfast options than brunch, and coffee and orange juice would have been nice. It was also strange that although bottomless Prosecco was on offer, it was not possible to buy a single bottle.
Given the present restrictions still managed an exceptional dining experience. Fantastic service and top quality food from the return to work menu. Highly recommended.
Booked Skylon for a business lunch. This place has obviously seen better days and was virtually empty, and I now know why. Prices were sky high (4 prawns for £9...really?!), we waited a LONG time for our simple mains from the terrace menu - roast beef sandwiches. These were covered in Marie Rose sauce - great for a prawn cocktail but a beef sandwich...never! We returned them to the kitchen and eventually got them back with horseradish sauce as intended. With no apology, and no offer of a reduction in the extortionate bill. We will not be returning.
Nice venue & service but was overpriced for the food served - nice but expect better for the cost
The food was beautiful for the value! The staff made the experience a lot of fun.
First outing to a restaurant since covid and chose skylon as remembered it to be spacious and airy. Excellent arrival procedure with screens, temperature check etc and staff in appropriate PPE. Food, Drinks and service lovely as always and great value on the set menu. Overall it felt like a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Thanks Skylon team x
Disappointed with food i had to return fish and chips and beef was lackig in flavour
Porr wine choice
Shame because good service and ambience
Thai place is a good find, we used the set menu which is really good and we enjoyed our visit very much.
Very good value for EOTHO
Another lovely meal with views over the Thames. Great service the staff friendly, and efficient.
Delicious food with attentive but discreet service. Lovely views and all in all a thoughly enjoyable and leisurely afternoon.
We didn't have a great experience at Skylon, the food wasn't great and coupled with slow and delayed service, made the whole experience quite disappointing. We won't be going back anytime soon.
The 3 course deal is actually £30 because of the service charge which I found quite sneaky but the food was great! Waiters were lovely but had a bad habit of not lowering their visors over their face, lore training is definitely needed.
Good but a bit pricy
Very welcoming when we lived, sanitiser and clean. Service was excellent, rend and efficient. Lovely new and experience.
Our evening at Skylon was really lovely and great value for money with the discounts currently on offer. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and and he really made the evening feel special. Our set menu was lovely - the salmon tartare and crispy duck were fantastic as we shared two starters because we couldn't decide which to choose! Cocktails were nice, although the list was a wee bit limited and my Skylon martini seemed a little bit weak or watered down, but was still delicious although very sweet. The only real downside to the evening was the temperature as it was so hot inside with the sun shining through the wall of windows overlooking the Southbank - a bit more air con and the evening would have been five stars. I would still definitely recommend a meal there or drinks at the bar as the staff really made things special.
Staff were pleasant and efficient and seemed to be geared up for Covid. I was disappointed that they placed diners together when the restaurant is large enough to space people out more and that would have been sensible in terms of Covid. Food was tasty - nothing exceptional but nothing to complain about. Overall it was enjoyable
We did the Eat out to Help out set menu. It was lovely. Really impressed. So tasty.
Cocktails were great, drinks were great. Lovely ambience.
Closed early...but then that is probably due to the new normal more than anything.
Restaurant was well managed in three socially distancing times - good value with the government save scheme!
The artichoke starter was from a tin or jar and the brine overpowered the taste, but there was a very generous amount of pine nuts. The Coq Au Vin was good , but with only a small leg of chicken, not very substantial and little too salty. The mash was quite good.
The wine was of a different year to the one shown on the menu which does show a lack of attention to detail.
Social distancing etc: While our main waiter wore PPE and maintained a distance, asked us to hold out glasses while he poured etc another who repeatedly came to top up our glasses during our meal - from the bottles on the table, wore neither face covering nor gloves, though touched the bottles repeatedly and certainly posed an increased infection risk.
Good food and service during easing of lockdown. However some staff members weren’t wearing their masks properly so made it redundant
Thanks. First meal out after lockdown. All very well organised. Great atmosphere. Really enjoyed the evening.
Very poor service. Felt like our table was treated differently from the other customers (no complimentary bread, orders coming at different times, etc.). It is way too overrated and not worth the visit! Food is overpriced.
Excellent ambience (particularly good lighting), lovely food & professional service. Pity it was so quiet (coronovirus fears...) but meant we got a good table by the window!
perfect for pre show dinner
Food and service were excellent
A delightful evening as always at the Skylon
Food was lovely, setting was nice. I would only say awkward angular positioning of the table against the window, as waiter had to keep getting in between us and another table on the side. Also, don’t feel they are equipped with handing the pre- theatre, as it was a bit slow with service (although staff were very lovely and provided good service,) just felt we had to ask for things to be a bit speedier as we had to leave a certain time and also don’t give one of us fresh apple juice and concentrate to the other diner! Other than that, will come back for a more relaxed dinner next time.
Beautiful room and many tables have a Thames view. The menu is classic British and very good, I had scallops and steak. Great wine list and cocktails. The staff were really friendly and helpful. 20% off if you are a member of the South Bank Centre which makes it a bargain!
We went for a pre theatre meal. Lovely location with view of the river. Good food
Very helpful sommelier and host, Brian and Marco were both great.
As ever, the food, staff and venue are all superb. Every person you meet from those who welcome you at the door, to the sommelier and waiting staff are really knowledgable and helpful. A wonderful place that always delivers a special experience.
Post-concert, rather empty (it was a Monday night!). River view is always great. Only set menu offered which was a bit restricting, but the food was fine, even if the portions were quite small (the guinea fowl ‘coq au vin’ was minuscule). The wine list has always been pricey but the NZ Pinot (Rabbit Island) was excellent (£48). Would certainly return.
We had to complain when our wine had obviously been poured at another table, initially denied by staff but sommelier topped up our glasses with another wine
Great service, good food. Awesome atmosphere
A truly fantastic dining experience!! From the moment we walked through the door, the staff made us feel like we were V.IP’s. Our waiter - Richard was attentive and so patient and kind and really made us feel so welcome. This was a truly remarkable dining experience and I recommend this place for your special occasions.
Great food and really great service - really enjoyable.
Very good meal and lovely view
The staff couldn’t have been nicer and when we said we had a theatre to get to our food was brought really quickly, was delicious and great value. Highly recommend
A very stylish restaurant with views over the Thames. Bright and airy but with subtle lighting. We had the pre-theatre menu which represents extremely good value. The food was excellent and service attentive without being intrusive. Wine and food waiters were charming. Definitely a pleasant dining experience though noise volume may bother some who might be looking for a quiet, romantic dinner. Recommended.
