Although the food itself was pretty good and the decor was very nice for the Xmas season, the service was absolutely abysmal and totally unbecoming of an expensive, respected brand. Here are the highlights: 1) our waiter informed us upon his arrival that he was very hungover (maybe funny for a more informal restaurant, but pretty embarrassing for everyone at a “nice” one). 2) He then disappeared and our order was taken by one of the rudest/coldest people I’ve ever dealt with. 3) Despite that, the order was still input incorrectly and we had to wait 15 min for it to be fixed, while the other half of our party ate their meal. 4) Finally we were served Bloody Mary’s that looked like they each had half a bottle of Worcester sauce in them (brown and disgustingly undrinkable) and 5) when we asked to have them replaced the floor manager lectured us about how they looked fine - as though we haven’t had them dozens of times at other, better restaurants (FYI - I’m case you’re reading this, they are supposed to be reddish not dirt brown).
All in all, an embarrassment of an event (was there for an important birthday lunch) and clearly won’t ever go back. Honestly, they ought to shut this one down before it ruins a successful NYC brand or at least replace the entire staff.
Fantastic in every way, as usual. First visit for our friends who were very impressed.
Arrived early and greeted at the door. Had drink at the Bar and a chat with the staff for a recommendation on the choice of steak. Been to S & W New York recently and had a great Sirloin on the bone following a visit 16years ago with a best sirloin experience ever which meant a return was long overdue. Also dined at S&W in Vegas some years ago. London was great, lots of room, great atmosphere, great service and the recommended Ribeye will mean another return to London is a must and its only a few hours away. Perfect.
Mark Jackson.
Had an amazing meal. Wonderful food and a fantastic waiter.
Really good meal in a nice environment - the steaks were cooked to perfection and service good, basics I know for a steak house but not all do it as well! B
Steak was superb, best I’ve had in a long time. Service was excellent
We arrived an hour early to the actual booking and they were happy to accommodate us straight away. The service and the food was really good, but we found the lighting in the restaurant was a bit dim. Also my partner and her brother ordered a cocktail which was supposed to be peach but tasted absolutely disgusting (almost like a menthol medicine). We asked the waiter to take it back and change for a different drink, yet we were still charged for it on the bill, which was very disappointing considering they didn’t even drink them.
Very late, way beyond reservation time, being seated. Prime sirloin was so salty I couldn’t eat even half. Having dined several times at Smith & Wollensky in Miami, Vegas and New York, it was very disappointing.
Best steak restaurant in London. You receive a full classic American steak house experience that is missing in today’s restaurant world. Highly recommended by my brother and I.
The food is massively overpriced and the quality really poor.
A nice upmarket American style steak restaurant with impeccable service! A little on the expensive side, but well worth a visit - ideal for a special occasions or meal our with clients/work.
6:45 reservation, arrived and was seated at 6:40. Ordered dinner at 7:00 and had to ask for our salad course at 9:00. Got multiple excuses from the waitstaff and manager.
The evening was a huge disappointment!!! Would have easily accepted “we made a mistake” but the freelance
excuses made it worse.
Never again!!!!
Unbelievable steak..... an absolute must for meat lover’s
Great steak restaurant and the starters in particular are beautifully presented.
4 dined and we all tried a different steak , all were excellent and a good size.
The ambience was a little flat in our opinion but probably because it was a Monday.
Our only gripe was the wine is overpriced even for a restaurant of this class and was distinctly average. A restaurant of this type should have an excellent house wine at no more than £40.
It was my husband’s 60th birthday Celebration lunch with the family, the attention to detail is 2nd to none. We were made to feel like we were the only diners there!
Everything to the T was amazing, will definitely be going back
Fabulous evening, ideal for a date night if you want a change from the usual places. Cocktails are also very tasty
Outstanding cuts of meat will definately be returning, recommend spending the extra money for the USDA fillet. Thank you!
We had a lovely meal on Saturday to celebrate a 30th birthday. With an average spend of £120.00 for a party of seven, was a bit on the pricey side but everyone enjoyed their meal. They did forget to bring a few things to the table and needed prompting but it was a busy Saturday. The restaurant looked lovely with the Xmas decorations, very festive.
This is the way to cook steaks and have steaks in the country. Of course they are from the States so that is to be expected. We have the Tomahawk cooked to perfection. One of our favourite. Keep it up
This restaurant is constantly excellent, in terms of service food and ambience, I have no hesitation in recommending it.
Although the restaurant was inviting, the service good and swift, and the portions sufficient and tasty, the menu was limited. I won't book again for a restaurant that does not offer the range of menus available on the website.
Great steak. Good venue.
If you want to try some steak which is a cut above the rest (no pun intended), then this is the place to go. Relaxed atmosphere but great service and amazing food. Our waiter was clued up about the menu but not too pushy, and was kind enough to give my partner a complimentary dessert as it was his birthday. Will definitely be visiting again.
Lovely place, but on the pricey side.
Staff were great and good atmosphere and food.
Wine mega expensive.
Thanksgiving meal was a delight.Service both at the bar and at table was superb. We were looked after and the staff (particularly our waiter Robert) met all our needs efficiently and with little waiting.
We had a lovely table with plenty of room. The food was very good and the cocktails we’re great.
We have been here many times before and once again we had a great night.
Our waiter did not know much about the menu but we gave him the benefit of doubt by assuming he was new to the position. For Mayfair, the quality of the cocktails was subpar. The worst part of the meal was the vegetable selection. How any cook worth their weight could ruin something as simple as carrots is beyond me; and the chef who thought pouring a can of chopped tomatoes over the lovely green beans should probably seek success in another industry. The restaurant in itself, however, is beautiful and the steak (for which its known) was perfect.
The food was well flavoured but warm at best. Service was inexperienced. No barman was available to pour 2 glasses of champagne and we had to wait until our starters were served to have them instead of asarrival drinks. We had split pea soup, turkey, pumpkin pie.
Thanksgiving
One of the best steaks I’ve had, service was great and good wine
If you like stakes you will get here
Tolles Service - Essen hervorragend!
Wonderful food, ambience and lovely waiter! A really special night, if a little pricey but perfect for the special occasion.
Wedding planning
First time we have taken young children and the staff were brilliant with them Still the best steaks around
S slow service, very noisy downstairs and wine was corked. Steak was still excellent though.
Excellent service, very accommodating staff(we were at our table far longer than the two hours we were allocated!!) and, of course, very good food. The meat was delicious, we shared tomahawk steaks, and the creamed spinach, in particular was lovely.
Best steak I have ever had (Porrterhouse)
The food was fantastic. Taste great couldn’t get better steak.
Service was another matter. Asked 3 times for bread as I’m a diabetic and my sugar was getting low ,
I was feeling shaky.after a long wait it finally came.
The waiter took our orders. We had cocktail and soft drinks ,wine and champagne.
Everything came except the cocktail, again 3 times of asking eventually came. We we’re giving the cocktail free.
Food.... came with sides but no salad!,,,, eventually it came halfway through and then it wasn’t a Waldorf salad. By then we had given up and just eat it.
Sorry to say what was wrong, but it is best to know.
We will try again, perhaps after Christmas.
We had a great evening! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and attentive!
