I was a very regular customer at Smokestak, however the service here has continuously gone downhill. My last experience was by far the worst. Despite being a quite Sunday afternoon and a half empty restaurant, I waited 20min to order my food, another 20min for the plates to be cleared (after they had been empty), and then waited another 30min before someone came back to us to take a dessert order (or if we wanted our drinks topped up perhaps?). I decided to skip dessert entirely and not return to this restaurant again. It’s a true shame because the food here is stellar and competes with the best BBQ in the world.
The food was out of this world, as it was the last time I went. And the service by almost all of our servers really was great, so commendations to them. Sadly, the score was let down by one server who started off strongly but really let us down at the end.
We ordered a round of drinks after out meal instead of dessert and when we received them were told that someone was waiting for our table and we had to pay up and leave in a mildly hysterical manner. Now, I TOTALLY understand that restaurants need their table back and we respected that and paid up. We were then told we could drink our drinks in the bar downstairs, but we were penned in with no seats, right by the toilet. We absolutely wouldn't have minded this but we went up and saw that our table was completely empty, and the server had told us to pay up and leave quite rudely for no reason.
It wouldn't stop me coming back, and perhaps not recommending to a friend. But I would advise that in future:
- If you take a drink order from a table and you know you are going to kick them out when that order arrives, at least give them a heads up before they pay
- If you don't need the table, don't chuck customers that haven't finished off for no reason (especially if they are going to walk past and see it later)
Again, massive commendations to the chefs and all the other servers :)
Chair was uncomfortable and brisket was cold and a little on the measly side, when I was expecting it to be hot. But apart from that the food was delicious and the service was very good.
Amazing! I loved the brisket and roasted beetroot! Will definitely go again
The food was very good and arrived quickly. The service wasn't very good at all and not what I expected from a restaurant of that stature. Firstly we were ushered onto a large group table with only 3 other people on it. We were then interrupted considerably to ask if we were ready to order which clearly we were not. As we eventually found out this was because a large group was arriving at 3.30 to take the table. Had this been explained at the outset we would have had no issue but it wasn't leaving us to feel that the service was very aggressive and not friendly. Eventually at 3 we were given another table where we could sit till we wanted. This was a table that had been available since we first arrived at the restaurant.
Absolutely outstanding food. Superb BBQ, amazing dishes, really friendly staff and great value.
Food was great. Seating is very uncomfortable and awkward
Lovely service with food. Although we felt like we were slightly rushed out of there so that they could get waiting customers in, which is fair enough.
Food was fab as usual! That brisket burger never gets boring 😄
This place gave me and my company if 3 mixed emotions.
The food was nice but overpriced and the meat is being served plain. No side. No salad.
They don’t provide nutritional facts on the menu. The service wasn’t very good. The girl on the entrance though was lovely.
It ‘s quite pricey.
It has really good music and ambience.
We love Smokstak and will definitely be back!! The beef rib is to die for and the cocktails are excellent. Try to rhubarb sour!
Really gone down hill recently. This place used to be outstanding. Pork ribs were very over cooked and the brisket in the burger was very fatty. The sticky toffee pudding which used to be a highlight due to it coming swimming in sauce had barely enough to cover the pudding. Wont be back until the reviews pick up.
The food was very good, with excellent brisket, which was enjoyed by all. The prices were reasonable. The tables were cramped and a little uncomfortable.
Great place to have dinner! The food and the cocktails were delicious, you get free tap water, the service is very good, ... The only thing that bugged me was the red wine I drank, when I pay 5 pounds for a glass of wine I expect a nice wine which wasn't the case. Also very small tables for two when you're both very tall. Overall, a great experience!
They over charged my bill. When I called them to fix it they just ignored. They are unable to provide accurate charges. Unacceptable
Everything was just amazing! Food was mind blowing!
Simply faultless and full of flavour.
Amazing meat and the smokey taste was divine. Highly recommendable.
very good food and very good value. please put the potato skins back on the menu
Great food. Always impressed, everything is incredible, from the starters to the desert. Nothing has been left out.
Best food I have had in a long time. The ribs are a contender for the best in London. Everything was beautiful.
I am in love with this place. From the food, to service quality. True love
Trying too hard to be cool. Food was good but when all the staff are too “cool” to actually speak to you or acknowledge you that isn’t helpful. Summed up by a guy walking past and randomly pouring the deliberately left sediment in a bottle conditioned craft beer into our glasses. Very politely tried to stop him but he did everyone’s glasses anyway. Explained (politely) that the whole point was that we didn’t want the sediment in our beer and he just shrugged and walked off without saying anything. Tried to say bye to him when we left and he just walked by. Nice. Ribs and smoke aubergine were good though.
5th visit here and I think the best - great attentive staff and fantastic food- the person who sat us noticed a more suitable position for us at the bar - and came over asked if we wanted to move - very slick
Been 4 times always good, seems to be gettting more expensive.
Brisket bun was great. Beef ribs were also good. The table size was a little small though
Expensive - small dishes for what you pay for.The Atmosphere is awesome but the joint is always full,if you go there without a reservation is impossible to find a table.
Really, really fantastic- it was a slightly rogue choice for a work dinner as ideally all these plates should be shared, but my colleagues loved it.
It's heavy on the meat front- but if you're ready to dive into some pork ribs or beef short ribs or ox cheeks, then you'll absolutely love it. Having said that, whilst there aren't loads of vegetarian dishes, the ones they have are absolutely superb (and possibly the best things we had there)- in particular the the roasted aubergine, or the grilled cabbage.
The ambience is casual, good music that wasn't too intrusive, and very informal and friendly. Very convivial and very fun- with top-notch food and drink!
Had to wait a long time for our table and were then asked to give it up about 1.5hrs later
Delicious. Ox cheek dish was especially good. No hesitation in recommending this spot. Vegeterian dish ;the charred green were crazy good too.
Best meat in town (cocktails are pretty good too)!! Really worth it and good prices. Will visit again
Once again Smokestak delivers. It's a fun evening with excellent service and really delicious food options - nothing seems to disappoint. I was living in Shoreditch for about 3 months over the summer and went at least once a week. It surely deserves to get a Blue Diamond Award!
The food was delicious but was let down by bad service. Even though we pre-booked we were located at the bar which was quite annoying as a group of 3. We were also moved from the table before we were ready to leave. It would be good to be told at the start of dining the duration we had the Table for.
Great place but be warned some of the mains are on the small side...Brisket as a cheap cut is normally generous in portion size, their version arrives in two think slices. Otherwise great.
Recently enjoyed a work colleagues birthday lunch at Smokestak, the ambience is fantastic, an excellent venue with a great tapas style menu, it has a great vibe and the staff are all super helpful and very efficient would highly recommend.
If you are a meat lover this has to be up there with some of the best in London. It's slightly on the pricier side but the food is delicious and so are the drinks. Took some stars off as the table my colleague and I were seated at was very difficult to get in and out of without nearly veering into the table next to us when you are 6ft+. Overall highly reccomend if you want tasty brisket or ribs.
The food really was lovely, but £12 for two slices of brisket is mad; you got more meat in the cheaper brisket sandwich. I’m not sure why the staff were wearing gloves as they never switched when they changed food sections, I saw two staff members handle raw fish then went to cooked meat and dessert without washing their hands. I feel like the staff should recommend ordering two or three plates per person as this wasn’t clear. However I did get food envy from the aubergine and beetroot dishes; they looked amazing but we’d chosen this place because we wanted smoked meat.
Amazing Experience was had. You turn up and wonder what you have let yourself in for but don’t be put off by the industrial look to the place as this is some of the best food around. Highly recommend to anyone and will be returning for sure.
Great food and friendly service as ever.
Amazing place with great food!
