Super cute place to go for brunch. The smoked fried chicken is awesome and our server was so sweet and accommodating. The only thing that was a bother was the flies but with sitting outside and eating that’s hard to get away from.
very nice place and the setting is quite nice. I Highly recommend it!
Sara was our server Friday night on the patio, and she was absolutely delightful! Very friendly and attentive! We will definitely go back and have her wait on us again!
Our server, Elizabeth, was phenomenal! Her recommendations all turned out to be delicious, she had a great attitude even while serving outside in Texas while wearing a mask, and was the perfect amount of attentive. Smoky Rose did a good job at requiring masks (even while walking to a table outside), socially distancing tables, providing hand sanitizer, offering paper or real silverware, and remaining very friendly. We ordered iced tea and lemonade, the brisket queso, the Reuben sandwich and the seared salmon and all were great. I would definitely recommend.
We made reservations for lunch and were seated in an outdoor enclosed area with fans. I was hoping that since we made a reservation we might get seated at a table closer to a fan, but we were not. The service was very slow. It took about 25 min to get our appetizer, which was chips and guacamole. I ordered a salad and when I started eating it I realized it was missing ingredients like cheese. I’m not sure if they were out of ingredients or they were forgotten. By the end of the lunch, we were sweating and ready to go. I loved the environment, but would only consider giving this restaurant another chance in cooler weather.
Very poor service. Waiter not trained well. Simple enchiladas overspiced. Other food was ok.
Although given comps by manager I doubt I will return.
We had a great time at Smoky Rose. The service, food, and music were fantastic! We look forward to our next trip to Dallas so we can return.
We had a nice server that meant well, but she was overwhelmed. Definitely seemed understaffed. We finally asked a young busboy if he check on our food, and it was just sitting under a lamp - he brought it to us. The margarita was watery, (which server admitted it was the second complaint she had re: the margaritas) and a replacement came after our food came (about 45 min. later) - so I just returned it because we needed to go since it all took so long. We got a free dessert - and restaurant people?- why do you give out free desserts for bad service? a cop out - just comp the drink and that would have been fine. (And I was still charged for the margarita even though I didn't drink it) Like the ambience/patio/nice setting, but sorry, not coming back.
Let me begin by saying, your patio is really great it is a lot of different things to do unfortunately your waitstaff was cut short with one inexperienced waitress I get that considering the situation. But I asked about a drink starting with your website because it mention who is happy hour on Monday and Tuesdays all day I was informed that that was incorrect. When management told me that I said well then maybe you should honor it I wasn’t asking for a free drink at all I was asking for you to honor your website and happy hour she said she would look into it the drink never arrived I didn’t ask anymore because I thought OK ? I think management should’ve given it to me and happy hour price is not free because that’s what it said in your website but I was told that no you can’t have anything it sounds ridiculous but then again you asked my opinion. The back of the house is doing well to degrade the front of the house needs a tremendous amount of work being understaffed is not a real excuse, having staff that doesn’t is not train is a sin. If you would want me to help you in anyway I’d be glad I worked in restaurants for 20 years of my life and a lot of them were very successful The wait staff must be towed great service equals great tips and if the server is happy the house is happy in the customers are more than happy that is the mantra
This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had! I made my reservation through the opentable app but called to modify it for a table for 12. I even let receptionist know that this was a special occasion; the celestial birthday of my daughter. She would have been 2. I brought my family here since I’m a regular and it was one of the last places my daughter had came to before her passing.
I called at least 20 mins ahead that I would arrive with 2 extra people, a total of 14 now. This whole time our waitress had this huge table and other tables. A manager or a second waiter SHOULD HAVE HELPED!!!
1.the waitress didn’t come to greet until 10-15 min after we got seated.
2.I ordered 3 apps. She only put in the order for 2 apps which the table next to us ended up eating in front of us!
3.we were very hot. We asked at least 4 times for them to do anything to help out. Until we were almost done eating they “tried to move a fan” but still nothing!
4.I had to literally call the restaurant at least 3 times to get some sort of help since our waitress kept disappearing.
5.We would constantly had to remind her essential thing
6.Keep in mind we told them how hot we were. No one kept refilling our waters or nor was a pitcher of water given to our table.
7.We had been ready to order. Since my table was large, I told my family to pick their food and be ready. We had to see other people eat our apps. Then wait for our waitress to come back (took her a long minute) and then said that the table next to us got our apps and walked away. We were already to order...
8.She finally came back with the apps and one was still missing. She was missing some stuff she said she would bring so I reminded her again.
9.After the 4th time I asked her to please do something about the fan/heat. My guest are annoyed of the service and how long everything is taking. Nothing
10.Oscar comes. The owner. Rudest man ever!!! Walked away from me several times as I was talking to him!
NO APOLOGY WAS GIVEN!
Service was terrible. Live music was great. Very disappointing that the service was so bad that it ruined our entire experience. It was embarrassing that I recommended this place.
We’ve always loved this place and are so grateful that they’re still here!! Our waitress recommended the specials and they did not disappoint! We had the salmon bacon BLT and the brisket Philly cheese steak with fries. Portions were huge and everything was delicious! Their lemonade was extremely refreshing on that particularly hot day. They’ve also done a great job with social distancing.
Dining near Arboretum
Great location, varied menu, and SAFE!
Their brisket is always delicious. Their smoke salmon sandwich is pretty good too.
Took my famIly for lunch after a morning walk I. The botanical gardens. Waitress was extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions. Food was fantastic.
Terrible waitress but good general manager that tried to make up for it.
The vast majority of staff did not wear masks or gloves - and guests were not held to the policy of six to a table - birthday gathering of many not social distancing.
It just felt reckless
Not all the servers were wearing masks. Ours wasn't. There were large groups of people there and not a lot of social distancing on the patio. It was a Saturday night so maybe I was expecting too much. I won't go back there on a weekend. There were too many risks.
DISCLAIMER: This review has nothing to do with the food because we never got any!
Took my best friend to Smoky Rose for her birthday and besides being shown to our table no one ever came over to us. After watching the staff for at least 20 mins stand around, set vacant tables and talk to each other, and then realize that NONE of the other customers were eating we left.
I get that we’re in challenging times and the kitchen may be backed up. A simple “sorry someone will be with you soon! Can I bring you some water?” would have been nice but I can’t patronize businesses that don’t show the simplest amount courtesy for their customers.
In short, Y’all need to teach your staff to do better. Because standing around Not tending to your customers that are supporting you during this pandemic is unacceptable.
Always love coming to the Smoky Rose...especially when they have live music on the patio. Brisket queso is most certainly a winner, as are any of the specialty cocktails.
From start to finish everything was great!
Fantastic overall experience. The food was amazing!
Excellent smoked meats and sides. Attentive service.
I loved it great place great food, the weather was perfect I absolutely loved it
Disappointed no one who works there was wearing a mask - I feel like employees should be, as they are going table to table interacting with more people.
Brisket queso! Fun outdoor patio with guitar player. Good signature drinks.
This was a busy day for Smokey Rose being Mother's Day, beautiful day outside, and with limited tables due to just opening up and state requirements. I made reservations but still had to wait another 30-45 minutes for our table. The service was slow, I understand due to just how busy they were. My meal (pulled pork sandwich) was cold and the bread was hard. I pulled the bread off and just ate the cold pork and slaw. It was fine, I usually have a better experience here.
Went for Mother’s Day, we will definitely be back. Oh and get the queso, you’re welcome.
Mother’s Day was great!
Very nice, a little long of waiting after making a reservation, but it’s all good.
Place is nice but food is sub par. The service not great either. Pretty disappointed waited for a few months I could have cooked way better than that. It was cold food and took quite awhile to get our food.
My favorite place!!
Food was wonderful, even better than I remember. Maybe it's just been so long? Tables spaced outdoors appropriately. Live music is always a welcome touch. Servers had masks around necks but not in use. However they didn't get close even when taking order so that didn't bother me so much.... What did was that the food runners who actually have the food on trays carried on shoulders by their mouths and noses didn't even have a mask to even pretend like they used one!!! Even a guy who appeared to be a manager that brought food to a neighboring table. For a place that did everything else right, including removal of bar stools, this seems very bad for optics. Whether one agrees in general about the effectiveness of masks, I think it's pretty well acknowledged that they are to be used for staff as part of the opening guidelines.
Food is outstanding!
Food was delicious! It would be nice if they would let the people dining at a table, get the hh specials, without going to the bar.
After waiting for over 15 minutes for somebody to greet us at our table, we decided to leave. There was nobody available at the hostess stand to even ask about a waiter before we left. Other tables that had been sat after us were greeted and had drinks but nobody ever spoke to us.
Great spot with live music and fun atmosphere
We arrived right at 11 to a line as they were just opening. The hostess wasn’t the friendliest but we were seated quickly and the rest of the staff was hospitable. We ordered from the brunch menu and it was subpar. Kinda disappointed after waiting so long to eat here but will consider returning and eating from their regular menu.
Smoky Rose has a welcoming and comforting feel with great food and a friendly staff! The live music is a special treat and the garden area great for families! I had the Smoked Fried Chicken and it was so good!
Awesome experience as always! Great food and service!
Always recommend to friends and family!
We will dine there again!
First time to try Smoky Rose, was not disappointed. Very nice environment, nice patio. Food and drinks a bit pricey compared to worth, but will definitely dine there again and would recommend to friends.
