Brooklyn restaurant featuring authentic Persian home cooking made with love.

Traditionally, Persian families gathered around the sofreh, an iconic fabric spread that served as the backdrop for beautiful displays of food during New Year, weddings, and other celebrations.

More than a decorative tablecloth, sofreh represents the warmth and hospitality that Persian people are known for. We embody this ethos at Sofreh, with traditional Persian dishes that represent/speak to the rich heritage and diversity of the region that is modern-day Iran. We want Sofreh to feel like a second home - a place where you can experience comforting food, made with love, in an inviting atmosphere.
Our philosophy is simple - food should be authentic, well crafted, and delicious. We capture this essence in everything we create, from our homemade yogurts to our fresh-baked breads. We even make our own pickles and marmalades.

Always worth a visit. Be nice if menu changed more often. Tried the lamb shank for the first time. Found it to be bland and uninspired. The other dishes were excellent.

This was some of the best food I have ever eaten, regardless of cuisine type. The cocktails were transcendent, truly. The service was friendly but very relaxed to the point of being disjointed. Maitre d' / very front of house were very warm and welcoming, but we had 2 or 3 different servers and they would disappear for long stretches - and our apparent main server had a gruff attitude, which we found to be charmingly New York but would definitely put some people off. And the room gets quite noisy. But I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone, Sofreh is fantastic in spite of these problem areas.

There are few restaurants where the food, the chef, the owner, the ambiance and the drinks are equally magnificent; Sofreh is one of the few.

Chef Nasim's beauty comes out in her recipes, warmth and humour.

Every course is made better by drinks - whether delectable cocktails, exquisite wines or a digestif with Chef Nasim's husband.

The balance of elegance and comfort is unmatched.

Celebrating major life moments is a special privilege and we look forward to flying into NY in order to celebrate our major moments at Sofreh.

Apps were delicious but pretty small. Main course took forever and then we found out that they forgot to put it in. We were sitting there for a very very very long time. But when the entrées came out they were delicious!

This was my fourth time coming to Sofreh and the food was beyond delicious, the ambiance is great and the staff has wonderful customer service skills. Definitely a great spot for a date night! It is reservation only so be sure to plan ahead.

This place is extremely overhyped. The flavors are not authentic, or any good for that matter. This restaurant is like La Croix - the flavors are extremely WEAK! I usually don’t leave such detailed reviews but this place has been repeatedly rude to me and and my family and for the level of clout they are trying to make it seem like they have it just did not live up. If the food was bad but the service was okay that would have been another story but our server and the host were extremely rude. Halfway through our meal our server disappeared never to be seen or heard from again, so we had to ask another server to help us out.

Being an Iranian American I was a little skeptical that Sofreh would live up fully to all the rave. But I am so happy to be wrong! It was truly amazing. Every dish captured all the flavors of my childhood with a new modern twist to their presentation.

The food served is very good in terms of complex flavors, but the presentation is just average. The menu is limited and thus one wouldn't want to return to eat the same things over again. The serve staff was universally non-attentive including getting a rice order wrong. This was rectified by the restaurant giving our table a complementary rice dish. The noise level is very high including loud music.

Absolutely fabulous. Appetizers were great( chili glaze cauliflower, eggplant with whey dip and kofteh meatballs; entrees were amazing chicken with barberries in plum saffron sauce, lamb shank super tender and wonderful steak with walnuts and pomegranates. Desserts were not as good but whole experience, service and ambience were great Will definitely be back

Service is terrible and pretentious, which is especially unacceptable for a neighborhood place with above average price point. As soon as you walk in the door the host is rude. After we sit at our table, a waiter did not accept our order for 45 min, explaining it that their"kitchen is busy". Nobody did anything - no apology or word from a manager. This was disappointing! We were starving and did not eat anything for a while preparing ourselves to a dinner in the Persian place. Well, anything can happened, however during the time we were waiting, nobody's even checked on how we're doing. Needless to say that no complimented "table food" or appetizers were proposed as well. They did not even bother if we have tap water on a table. Food is pretty tasty but not mind-blowing at all.

The service, atmosphere, and staff were all 5 starts for sure. Also, amazing exotic cocktails and wonderful appetizers, but the main dishes weren't the best. First, they came after 45 minutes. The steak (Kabob Torsh) was cold and the fish stew was over priced for its quality.

On Saturday I received a call about our reservation and the caller, somewhat rudely, reminded me that if we don’t show up, the restaurant will charge our credit card $20 per person. A restaurant should never ever call its guests and threaten them with fines—such an arrogance and rudeness.

The attention to detail and level of care is clear. The food is delicious. This is possibly the best quality Persian food you can find in a restaurant anywhere in the country. While perhaps on the pricy side, you really are getting what you pay for. One point off for value because the appetizer course comes with one piece of bread for the table, regardless of number of appetizers ordered or number of guests at the table.

The food was really overpriced for what you got. We ordered a $30 halibut dinner that was a small portion of over cooked over salted halibut with some sauce. The roasted cauliflower appetizer was exceptional—delicious and had a really interesting sauce, but the cauliflower was undercooked and hard to cut through for being roasted. The rice was a little dry. All in all it was alright but certainly not worth the high price tag and long wait.

A beautiful bright restaurant and everything was delicious. Recommend the cauliflower and carrot appetizers and good cocktails. Fish with tamarind sauce was unusual and good. Lamb shank was so tender it didn’t need a knife. Easily accessible from the subway.

Where to begin! We had terrible service. When we arrived for a 6:45 reservation the restaurant was only half full. I am pregnant so I was happy that there was A/C because it has been so brutally hot. But then the service started getting real bad. Our reservation was for 6:45 and we didn’t get our entrees until 8:50. In addition, at the height of service they decided to keep the front door open for fifteen minutes. Our table was right by the door and I politely asked if they could close it. Not only because there have been blackouts all across the state, so having the door open with A/C going didn’t make sense...but because the noise from outside, the smell of gas fumes, and the heat were not a comfortable dining experience on top of which I am pregnant and the heat is extra brutal. My server sent a woman over to speak with us about the open door and she was not pleased with my request. Stating they must have fresh air every fifteen minutes and she didn’t care that I was pregnant. She was, needless to say, not very nice. We then proceeded to wait for over an hour for our entrees. And were given no less than six different answers why they were delayed. And rather than the staff being nicer to us, they got more and more rude and ignored us when we did try to communicate. We finally got a very nice woman who took pity on us (she alone gave us three different answers as to why our food was so delayed). And I will say, she did comp some items on our meal and was kind to us. The food was good. I wouldn’t say there was a need to go back, though. And at that point we were so tired and it had been over a three hour meal at that point so we even skipped dessert (which was also offered as a comp). Needless to say, this place did not live up to the reputation and reviews it had received and we will never return.

The food was really tasty: the steak and lamb were tender and perfectly seasoned; the chicken was moist; and all the food was beautifully presented. The decor was simple, clean, and appealing. In the middle and end of our meal, the owner herself came over to check in on us and see how we were doing. We would definitely go back to Sofreh.
