Poor, disinterested service. Bright lights and cafeteria like ambience. Average food. Would not recommend.
Superb food but poor and disorganised service, uninspiring layout/lighting and cold as right by the hotel entrance next door.
Food and location are good, just that the heating was not working and the staff seemed overworked. Thus, it felt like you paid a premium for a takeaway.
That hurts when you have to pay 12.5% service charge when there was literally no service.
Customer was service was terrible. Had to wait to be greeted and shown to table, had to flag down member of staff to take order. Masala tea was forgotten with the afternoon tea, we had to remind the waitress.
It wasn’t the best. The restaurant is as empty and last order was at 9! But the lamb and bullet naan were great. Not enough flavor and spices in the other dishes though. There are definitely much better and enjoyable Indian places in London. Slightly disappointed but would go back to give it a second shot.
Food was ok nothing special but the service was terrible I would not go back again!
Service was slow and seemed like they don’t listen or don’t understand what we are saying. Was no food recommendation even when we asked. Bill was presented as a “sign” of closing without a word.
Place looked and felt empty and was no ambience at all. Wine list, well, not much to choose from at all.
Only good thing was that I met my friend who I haven’t seen for years.
Lovely location and has great potential to be a good restaurant. The service was very very slow. The waiter and waitress could not pronounce not explain some of the dishes on the menu. We found ourselves having to get their attention for drinks top ups and orders.
The starters and chaat type dishes were good although the portions were on the less generous side. The paneer main dish had probably six small cubes of paneer and all a thin sauce.
I would make the following improvements-
1) better and more lively, professional wait staff as they let down the establishment.
2)the ambience needs work- maybe better music, plants, live band?
3) more attentive service- offer regular drink and food order top ups.
4) serve the hot dishes hot. Ours was luke warm.
5) the menus looks tiered and old bits of paper.
6) nicer seats/chairs for diners.
7) more options for indian themed cocktails.
8) attention to detail on presentation of mains.
Overall it has great potential but really needs to up its game as there are other places similar that have nailed it in terms of food and vibe.
First of all, the staff there has no idea that the table is booked, whereas we have to pay 10£ per head to get confirm the booking. Then the service was very very slow took almost 50 min for the food to arrive. We asked about the week special as it was written in bold on board and staff was not aware of it. Quantity, Quality, and service nothing was up to mark to the cost of every dish there. Will not recommend it to anyone.
The food surprised us at Soho Wala, well cooked and very tasty… the problem wasn’t the food, we would go again.
The place was not easy to find, but the staff were helpful when we called and came out to welcome us.
The problem was the piped and basically awful awful music which ruined the atmosphere and made it hard to enjoy the meal. Some of the worst renditions of your fav pop songs from a cheap CD…..
The decor was cooled together and the place felt like a pop up not an established restaurant.
That said the food was honestly good and very tasty…
So if you don’t mind rubbish music with your meal, go there
Good quality and good value food, plenty of variety especially if the starters. Good service and nice atmosphere. Wine a touch expensive.
Really good authentic India food. Would recommend for a great meal with Friends who like sharing and great food. Staff were attentive and advised us when we over ordered.
The Aubergine was great and so were the breads- so many restaurants get them wrong.
Definitely worth a trip if you are all about the food!!
the service was slow yet we were the only people there on a tuesday, we nearly left but the food was excellent, the biyani a tad salty the bel pouri amazing
it was very quiet the day we went, so not much ambience but the food, presentation & service were very good.
The masala tea was excellent!
Having been recommended this restaurant as a nice place for lunch, we were disappointed to find that it was quite empty and mismatched from an ambience/decor point of view in the context of its enviable location. Generally my hallmark of a good Indian eatery is the masala chai, so despite the intense heat outside that was my choice of drink; unfortunately it tasted like tea-flavoured water and it was clear that it was a teabag chai rather than authentic - unfortunately first impressions make a huge impact because despite the food being reasonable in terms of taste, I wasn’t wowed overall.
The dahi puri had a tasty filling but the puri itself was a touch stale, the chicken kathi roll wasn’t much to rave about and this was the limited menu - I was unfortunately fooled by the exuberant, colourful pictures of the food prior to coming here and I think the main items which were showcased on various review sites had been stopped due to COVID (eg. Okra fries, etc.). Big disappointment.
In future, I’d probably take the time to walk a few more steps towards Carnaby street and just get my Indian fix from Dishoom instead.
A lovely restaurant in a superb location. All the dishes we took were authentic and delicious. We particularly enjoyed the paneer, tiki and chicken tikka dishes, which were cooked to perfection. The biriani and laal mas were also very good.
This small restaurant is adjacent to a superb hotel bar, which is perfect for cocktails with these ladies.
Food was rubbish, didn’t taste good at all. Service was good though. 🤷🏻♀️
We ordered food, the waitress had come back and said 4 things of the reduced menu is not available and one item will take 45 mins. We just paid for our drinks and left the restaurant
We were told we couldn’t have tap water (covid - really???) and there were no poppadums so not a good start. Food was ok but not spectacular, had to wait a while which made the ‘no poppadums’ more of a problem. Furniture probably meant to look “eclectic” but just looks mismatched from a junk sale. It’s in a good location but doesn’t really work somehow.
Inside is nothing like website pictures, looks like a derelict warehouse, tiny portions of bland food, staff clueless.
Worst restaurant experience I have ever had and expensive for what you get.
Food was not bad the puri was actually the best .. but the service was the most awful service ever! BecausE of that It is very unlikely I would ever go back .. it ruined the eve a little bit with the mood
We had moved our reservation to 9pm and it seems they were already closing by that time (close at 10) so the place was empty but they served us anyway and the food was amazing! 10/10 would recommend :)
We chose to eat at this restaurant for our anniversary dinner even though we had read some very negative reviews! We are very glad we did, the service was excellent, the staff extremely helpful and the food was both tasty and well presented, the ambience and noise level was to our liking, we would have no hesitation recommending this restaurant or returning ourselves.
I took my other half here for Valentines day and safe to say they totally ruined our evening. It took 45 minutes to be offered mains after our starters despite staring at their waitors. Once we finally ordered our food they took another 40 minutes to arrive forgetting some of our sides. When asking where it was they insisted it was on its way. We finished our meal before the sides turned up, 2 hours after we had turned up. To add insult to injury, upon finally complaining, all they offered us was soft drink despite spending a lot of money! Service was appalling. Food was actually ok but personally wouldn't recommend, especially given the price vs portion sizes. And im underweight! Lets just say I saw some people getting some great service there so wouldn't be surprised if they just give "certain people" bad service if you know what I mean. Take that as you will but if you're brown they'll let you down!
Food was good, especially the okra fries, tikki and the chur chur naan but it took them time to get the food and the restaurant was empty! They could really work more on service and ambience.
- Despite reserving a table we were told there were various tables we couldn’t sit at, even though there was no one in the restaurant at all
- Service was patchy and slow
- Food portions were tiny! If you serving street food, either lower the prices or increase the portion sizes. The mains were served in tiny side bowls which you would normally serve peanuts in.
- Some food like the pau bhaji and jalebi waffle were tasteless/bland
The good news first : The pani puri was nice rest of the meal was very average ,the Pao were soggy and the daal lacked the texture and flavours .the deserts were biggest let down we ordered waffle and jalebi.apprentlt both the items were reheated multiple times in a micro oven the waffle was like a toast far away from being gory and soft .the jalebi was worst I ever had all my life ,one could take it home for a sweet chewing or something . Portions are small rates are if high street .over all big disappointment !
Not going back there anytime soon.
Masala zone or Dishoom any day safer option .
The service was very friendly, though a little slow but the food was excellent. Noise level was perfect, buzzy but easy to chat, so. many places are too loud to talk to anyone except one person at a time, this was great. Ambiance would be greatly improved by more subtle lighting, its a bit too starkly lit by overhead lights.
Really tasty and authentic Indian food. The decor is nice and good wines and cocktails available.
Service was friendly and helpful but a bit distracted - we had to ask to order drinks, order food, reorder drinks etc...
Atmosphere is a little lacking but I think this is in part to being attached to a hotel
High end Indian chat experience.
Great food and fantastic service. A little gem in Soho.
The food was great. I loved the variety of dishes some served in quirky containers. The staff were great. Helpful and polite
Excellent food and service.
No service whatsoever maybe a cultural barrier unsure. Tried to explain about the service charge exception as there was 0 service given but they didn't understand. Food was ok, nothing amazing compared against the price.
Nice place with tasty food.. great service and value
Food was excessively oily
Menu descriptions aren’t as full and accurate as they could or should be. Don’t know if food is grilled or fried until it arrives at ur table which is then too late
Food was great but the portions were small and did not match value for money
Amazing! Better food that Dishoon!
Great restaurant serving interesting food at reasonable prices. Needs more people to know about it.
the food was very everage, most of the starters are fried and tasteless. the staff tried to be friendly, but wasn't. poor ambiance.
