I chose Sophie's BBQ for my birthday brunch last weekend. The food was aboslutely delicious and the service was great! The main dishes were great but the sides of sweet potato hush puppies and cornbread were out of this world. We brought in a cake for dessert and Tyler helped us refrigerate and serve it to our friends after we finished with lunch. I would recommend this place for anyone looking to satisfy their BBQ needs in Philly.
We made a reservation for 6:30 and ordered a few minutes later. We didn’t get our mains until 7:30, maybe even a little after. The service was very slow the whole time and a little awkward.
We ordered the hush puppies that looked great on social media but were overcooked when we got them. The cream cheese sauce is a little hard to get onto the puppies but overall the taste was pretty good.
I ordered the surf and turf and my dining companion ordered the BBQ platter with brisket, Mac and cheese, and the baked beans. We also ordered a half rack of ribs.
The scallops were a little over cooked and under seasoned. The pork belly was kind of strange, some pieces were good, others were a little tough and under salted.
The brisket was good, macaroni and cheese didn’t look great but tasted pretty good. Beans were reportedly great.
I liked the ribs but the rub was too heavy on them. They were tender and well smoked. The BBQ sauce is yummy!
We’ll be back but maybe on a weeknight!
We sat outside on the picnic benches, entertained by the Ardmore street life.
The food is excellent. We had crab cakes, brussel sprouts, salad, wings. All fantastic.
Definitely more refined, and tasty, than an ordinary BBQ place.
Service was a little slow, but we had a great time anyway.
The food was amazing and the service was even better. The ribs, corn bread, brisket and baked beans were to die for! And you can buy beer by the bottle next door.
We were seated outside on picnic tables but had heaters on either side so we were toasty and warm. Indoors seemed crowded.
The food was delicious ( everything) but the service was lousy. We all ate outside with heaters.
THE FOOD WAS AMAZING... The Lead Waiter was amazing and pleasant as well.. didn't get his name and our waiter was very nice..
Waited 45 minutes for BBQ platter and it was lukewarm.
Excellent BBQ and the staff was super nice and friendly. I love that it’s BYOB! 5 stars!!!
Every thing I ate was dry and over cooked. I would not recommend eating there. Waste of money.
So good! We especially loved the Bama fried chicken sandwich, the fries and the coleslaw!! The coleslaw was 100% fabulous peppery, crunchy yum!! And the heaters were so stylish and warmed the outdoor seating area up just right.
Food was super flavorful, and unique. We will be back
Wonderful food! Wonderful Experience! Will be back soon :)
Had the best time went with my sales team and my Manager and was surprised on the amount of food that was served and attention to detail. The meal was outstanding and I will come back real soon
Everything was delicious! Hassan bbq platter with coffee rub brisket Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. Huge portion for 28 dollars was enough to share or take home the leftover for another dinner. The cornbread is amazing! My son had the burger and said it was great. Casual relaxed atmosphere - great for a fun meal! Can’t wait to return!
Definitely worth the visit. I'm definitely a BBQ officionaldo and enjoy and sample the best all over the US so my review seem be a bit harsh. Food is very good and portions are good but maybe a bit pricey.
The Sweet Potato Hush Puppies were a huge hit. The Wings are very tasty when dipped in the sauce but are not mixed in the sauce as stated on the menu. My family loved the Crab Cakes, Burger, Chicken and Brisket and the Salmon BLT is probably the best kept secret and best value. I had the Ribs and unfortunately like at least a few reviews I had read were salty to the point of being almost inedible. I could not finish a half rack and when I tried later at home I threw out the last 2 meaty bones. I thought that after the response to the bad reviews there would have been an adjustment but I was wrong.
Outside dining needs improvement from the uncomfortable picnic tables that are slanted making one side higher than the other. Not very comfortable or conducive especially for older diners. Outside heaters are barely adequate.
Again I'm extremely picky about BBQ having grown up surrounded by some of the best BBQers and very skilled myself, the food is very imaginative, some A+ and most better than you'll find this side of the Mason Dixon Line, but there's definitely some room for growth and improvement in some areas. Lighten up on the salt and substitute garlic.
Aside from providing the Best BBQ we've ever had, Tyler and Veronica were extremely friendly and accommodating. They were very down to earth and made our experience very delightful. The food is nothing short of amazing and we cannot wait to go back!
Absolutely delicious food. We had the wings, bbq burger, chicken sandwich, and cornbread. Everything was fantastic, but our faves were the wings and the burger. Great little place, really friendly people, excellent food! Can’t wait to go back.
Great space great food great service I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Awesome food and quick service!
Meal was delicious, we sat outside. Lovely.
Service was a bit slow, related to a call out.
Food was amazing and service was great! Will def be going back soon.
Great, food great people love it!
Great experience overall -highly recommended
The food was excellent - only reason that short of 5 stars was that several dishes were served cold/lukewarm
Still - highly recommended!!
This was our first time at Sophie’s, and overall we had a great experience. We ordered the hush puppies to start, and all them amongst three adults (there was more than enough to go around). We ordered the bama chicken sandwich, a burger, and a side of cornbread. The cornbread portion is huge, and was amazing. We ordered the burger medium, and it came pretty rare, the staff was extremely apologetic and accommodating and fixed it ASAP. The price points are a little high (but normal for the main line). All in all, the service was great and the food was good. Oh, and we sat outside at the picnic tables and were able to grab a six pack of beer from the deli on the corner.
The wings here are the best I’ve ever had. No joke.
My 8 year olds daughter enjoyed an order of ribs for the first time. She had bbq sauce from cheek to cheek. Loved them!
Where to start.
No heat in the restaurant except one little space heater when it was 30 degrees outside. This should have been disclosed. Second, some folks aren’t suited to running a bbq restaurant - even in the burbs. Using extra salt when you don’t know how to season is never acceptable. Even the French fries were marginal at best. When you don’t even serve beer with the bbq your non-alcoholic alternatives better be really good. Needless to say another fail. Top it all off with high prices and it all adds up to a major disappointment.
Do not make the same mistake that we did.
We are super thankful to the owner and head chef at Sophie’s for making our 3 year anniversary savory and sweet ! Thank you for the lovely treat. We enjoyed it so much!
Great food, great staff. Cool byob
Great place, Great food, great staff! Highly recommend!
The food is absolutely incredible! Tiny place, very cozy with a small dining scene. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!
food was amazing. beans were just a touch underdone but the flavor was there! the service was great, maybe needed another server to assist.
Absolutely wonderful. Amazing food, friendly staff, great ambiance. Spoke to the chef as well. Very friendly and really knows his way around bbq.
The food is fantastic, the people are great and it’s so cute inside. I’ve tried something different every time I’ve gone and it’s always been so delicious, I’d recommend to everyone!
Loved it. Amazing food & amazing service.
We had a spectacular meal at Sophie's for our weekly date night. This was the best BBQ we have had in years. The service was friendly and attentive, and the bill was surprisingly modest.
We had heard all good things about Sophie's so went for lunch on a Friday. It was hard to decide, because everything sounded amazing. Ended up sharing a few things, starting with chicken and waffles, which was amazing. Also the sweet potato hushpuppies which were also fantastic. They balance sweet and savory delightfully with those dishes. Then we ordered the ribs. Unfortunately, they were disappointing. They were not only cold, but tough. We felt obligated to try at least one of the meats, being a BBQ place, but we really did not care for them. When our waiter came out to see how we liked them, we sent them back and declined another plate or anything else. A few minutes later, he brought out another plate of ribs anyway. We said we didn't want them, but he put the plate on the table and now felt obligated to try them. Unfortunately, they were not not much warmer, and still tough. My friend and I really just took a polite nibble. They charged us anyway. Shouldn't have taken the polite nibble. But would go back for the chicken and waffles again and those hush puppies, and be willing to try something else. It is a very small place so only a few tables and they had the music fairly loud and had to ask them to turn it down.
Cute and quaint setting; reminds me of a bistro. Good scene for lunch/dinner with friends and for a low key date. The service was impeccable. Host/waiter was very welcoming, attentive and personable. We ordered crispy wings, hot chicken sandwich and the ‘Bama chicken sandwich with fries. Food was delicious...the crispy chicken wings were my fave! I highly recommend getting the honey hot sauce. To top it off, I had the peach lemonade (which is hand squeezed) and it was the perfect accompaniment. I definitely recommend a visit.
Visited Sophie’s two days in a row. It’s soo good!!! First night, I was on a date and the service and food were excellent. Second night I was out with my bestie and had a chance to try additional items on the menu. Sophie’s did not disappoint. Their team is friendly, paid attention to us and the owner even came out to ask how things were. Definitely spreading the word about this gem and will return!! ❤️❤️
I have had BBQ in Texas, California, Tennessee, Alabama, all of the so called bbq hot spots...nothing compares to Sophie’s BBQ! The ribs were spectacular and the wings were perfectly smoked and crisped. Can’t wait to come back!
