Amazing service from everyone. Some interesting dishes (temacos were great) but items such as the tuna tartare were disappointing.
The service was good and the ambience very fashionable without being too stuck up. The broccoli tempura and the pork shoulder temaco were our favourite dishes, putting a big twist on traditional taste in a good way. One thing to note is that while all dishes are beautifully presented, they aren't the easiest to eat. Probably not the right place if you're on a first date and want to impress with elegance. It can get messy at times.
Very good place. Good food, good service, nice environment.
Sosharu has good and creative dishes. Best for lunch when it is less busy. Main fault is with a significantly overpriced wine/drinks menu. The background music is also quite a misfit for this type of place.
A great atmosphere and good food.
Bit disappointed . This was third visit after two excellent previous experiences and it had a demob unhappy atmos. I understand the restaurant is relocating - and it felt like they’re no longer trying to impress and resting on laurels. Serving staff felt inexperienced , food was rushed out too quickly. Wouldn’t go back until it’s moved and they’re trying to win customers over again. Hopefully .
I love Japanese food and the freshness and innovative take of the various dishes was incredible. Great cocktails as well. The sake list is extensive but also expensive but you can pick your own cup from a beautiful collection of sake cups. I like the simple but beautiful set-up of the restaurant and service was good too.
Afternoon tea portion is okay, not very filling. Too few savory items, one temaki and 2-3 pieces of deep fried chicken nugget pp. 4 kinds of sweet items. The fish and the matcha roll are really good. Chocolate cake is too heavy and bitter, didn’t like it.
Great food, ambience and very good service. Top marks!
Was intrigued by Jason Atherton's new venture in Japanese dining and even though it describes itself as an izakaya, it is anything but that. This is more fine dining than casual dining, and I suppose what you would expect from a Jason Atherton's restaurant. The service was surprisingly poor, with pretty inexperienced and inattentive waiting staff but at least the chefs in the kitchen kept an eye on the customers. The food is pretty good overall but I was definitely more impressed with the chilled dishes and the open temacos instead of the main courses. The classic rosu-katsu and the chashu pork belly ramen were fine but nothing to write home about. The rosu-katsu was pretty average and I don't think the gimmick of the supplementary cartoon card added to the experience. The card suggested that the meal came with endless supply of rice and cabbage, which was not the case when my bill came.
Sophisticated ambiance, expensive prices, not so successful fusion version of Japanese dishes. They put salt on white rice (gohan) (please stop doing this!)!!! Dessert was good.
Superb food, every dish was packed with flavour. The service was impeccable, the manager noticed that the food wasn’t timed together and was proactively apologetic even before we noticed. Would be a great place for special occasion or business meals as you can rely on top notch service, which is rare to find in this part of the City.
The wagyu was most certainly not of the grade it was claimed to be and it wasn’t cooked as it should be either. To anyone who has been to Japan or knows a lot about butchery, you’ll leave disappointed and feel like you’ve been robbed.
Excellent food and a great vibe!! Loved it x
Great place, aesthetic with good quality and variety of food, and a contemporary atmosphere. Chickens and beef lunchtime bento boxes were really good!
Amazing food and fantastic service! Can’t wait to come back
Very good food, and friendly service, but poor communication between the staff. We asked for another beer in a glass, not a teacup - the beer came, with no glass OR teacup. 2nd cocktail was ordered - never arrived. One item on the menu was sold out - no recommendation for a replacement.
Always a good spot for a business meal. Ambiance is very nice, food is always tasty - sometimes a bit slow to come out but consistently good. Service isn't as great at lunch as it is at dinner.
Superb. Had the tasting menu with supplements, not cheap but of the highest quality and a brilliant experience. I’d rather eat here once than somewhere average three times over a couple of months, put it that way.
We had a celebration at Sosharu, we can say that we had an extraordinary time there, the staff exceptional, friendly & helpful. The food is amazing, a culinary trip of senses. The place itself is beautifully decorated. A total delight!
Great food. Enjoyed the evening. Service was very slow and attention was lacking.
Food was extremely outstanding and surprising! We love it. But time taken for the main course and dessert was way too long. We spent 3 hours to finish the dinner. However overall was good. Will come back again for sure :)
Excellent food; everything was delicious and tasty. Particularly recommend the Wagyu grilled beef and the Japanese rice desert with mango and coconut - an absolute treat!
However, as a piece of advice, if you ask for wine recommendation to your waiter make sure to either ask for the price or check the menu! We ended up paying £86 for 4x glasses of red wine which was recommended by our waiter who of course did not mention the price per glass. I guess we should have asked but if the price is so high the staff should let the customers know.
Food was excellent if not slightly overpriced. However, wine list is unaffordable and doesn’t match the price of the food. Extremely limited choices below £60 which is totally unacceptable for such an extensive wine list. Left feeling we had poor value for money, wouldn’t go back again!
My review is lower than it previously was, due to the fact that I think the quality and standards have slipped in what was once my favourite place in London.
The service was fine, but considering it was a quiet Saturday night, I would have expected much more from the team (no table check, I had to refill our wine etc.) This would not normally be an issue for me, but I was used to the treatment on previous visits and I was disappointed as this was my fiancés birthday and I had hoped Sosharu would have been a safe bet for the WOW factor, I left underwhelmed.
The food was also not nearly as high quality as it had been on my previous trips. This surprised me, as it was quiet (perhaps due to slipping standards), and I assumed the kitchen team would have had more time to take greater attention to detail. By no means was it "bad food" but it just didn't seem to have the same flair I am used to with restaurants in the Social Groups stable, and was certainly far below the par I had set for the venue previously.
The food was outstanding. We shared five or six dishes and each of them was delicious - beautiful ingredients, looked amazing, tasted great. Can’t find a single fault with our evening there.
Came here for twins birthday. Thank you for your amazing service and food.
Stunning food and decor. I finally went to Sosharu and the food was sublime! Creative menu with beautiful ingredients. The flavours were just spot on. I would give this restaurant 5 stars unfortunately the staff from greeting us to bar staff to servers were appalling. You would think for such an expensive restaurant staff should be well trained and mannered. The girl at the front desk looked annoyed we turned up. We then had to wait downstairs for our table which I don't mind if someone would acknowledge us and take our order. No ne of that, just one guy behind the bar escaping our gaze. Then waiting staff just didn't get it, slow, looked depressed and overworked. You can have the best food and decor but if the staff doesn't match up to that it does ruin your experience at Sosharu.
Love the Japanese afternoon tea here. The savoury options of very special fried temaki followed by karage chicken are miles better than a cucumber sandwich! The cakes are exquisite, especially the miso chocolate one, and I love that you get one of each cake each (generous portion too!) - no squabbling over who gets one or cutting an already small piece of cake into two/three!
Some surprising dishes - especially the desserts. Delicious layers of flavours. Sadly, the music was far too loud and we couldn't have a proper conversation, which meant we couldn't really enjoy the evening fully. Garage music was just inappropriate - we'd have preferred none at all
It was for a friend 50th birthday and the attention to details from the staff was exceptional.
We've been to Sosharu before and the first time we went it was excellent. This time the food was equally as good but the service was really quite poor. First they mixed up the mains so two of us had to wait ages while everyone else was eating, they kept saying they would bring us water but didn't for about half an hour, then there was a really really long wait between main and dessert. They made up for it to an extent by giving us a couple of free cocktails and coffee, but overall we left feeling that it had let us down a bit - given that it's so expensive. The food was really amazing though and I would go back- We got unlucky I think!
The service and food have really gone down.
A bit of a let down. We dined at the weekend and it felt like we had weekend staff. The Reception staff wasn’t the warmest which is not what you expect from front of house. Our waiter struggled with understanding some English words. Cocktails were badly made, and there was a limited wine list. No Malbec!!!!! The pullback was the Food which was amazing.
Website wasn't clear. I booked thinking I could get an afternoon tea but I was wrong. Anyway, that didn't stop us from enjoying a very good meal. It's pricy but worth it in my opinion. The biggest flaw was the music which was way too loud and not Japanese-like at all. Also I didn't like that the staff tried to push us into ordering more by pretending it wouldn't be enough food for two. We were quite satisfied with what we ordered and got.
We thought this was just the ticket we were looking for, something different and new with a bit of tradition. Really enjoyed it and we went away with a big smile!!
Terrific food as always - very attentive and friendly service. Only downside is portions seem a little smaller than before but the quality and ingenuity remain the same.
Third time at Sosharu. Third time's it's been fantastic. The food is crazy good, the wine list is extensive and the service is tremendous. If you want high quality Japanese food with a twist, where they explain the dishes and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome then visit Sosharu.
Honestly amazing food and drinks, with the best service I’ve experienced in a very long time. Every mouthful was a creative delight, we went with the menu recommendations and weren’t disappointed. Recommendations were made with knowledge and enthusiasm, and they were spot on. Really really lovely evening, would certainly recommend.
