Our concept is to develop new possibilities in the classic Japanese vegetarian cuisine; Shojin Ryori, by building a bridge between traditional techniques and modern tastes and sensibilities. Linking the past to the present and passing something to the future is in the essence of our Shojin Ryori cuisine.We use Bonito flakes soup stocks, eggs and dairy products in our recipes.We can make strict vegetarian cuisine (Bonito flakes, eggs and dairy products free) if you make a reservation 2days prior to lunch, 1day prior to dinner.

A rare vegan restuarant in Tokyo. Sitting at the counter, food was plated in front of us. Explanations given to us for what each dish consisted of. 7 & 9 course tasting menus available. Had the 7 course menu - very tasty and beautifully presented.

This place is ideal for vegetarians and vegans looking for (otherwise) traditional Japanese cuisine. Be sure to specify no Bonita flakes, no dashi, etc., or you’ll get fish via the sauces and stocks, even on the “vegetarian” menu. But if you make clear that you are strictly no fish whatsoever, they will hook you up. I recommend going for the sake pairing for a really indulgent evening.

Really delicious food, lovely service, nice to sit at the bar and watch the assembly process. One menu was fully vegan, the other option uses fish dashi.

Quality restaurant, which is accustomed to non-Japanese customers. Food is really original and tastes so good. The variety of drinks is perfect. The location is just a couple of minutes away from the Roppongi Station.

A modern take on Shojin Ryori, the vegetarian temple cuisine. All the dishes were flawlessly executed and were flavourful. Welcoming staff speak English well and explain the dishes, which adds to the experience. Highly recommended in a city where there are thousands of food restaurants, especially if you like muliti-course meals.

Sougo is such a unique concept in Tokyo - high brow vegetarian* temple food with a modern twist in a luxury setting. I am not a vegetarian but was interested in the concept, and I enjoyed every single dish of the largest set they offer. Standouts included the homemade plum wine, sesame tofu, radish & lotus root soup, the "winter garden", and the three desserts they offered - especially the persimmon sorbet! I left comfortably full - given that this is temple food, the concept is that you leave feeling healthfully full, not stuffed. That being said, if you are a Westerner, I recommend ordering the larger set.

I was also extremely impressed by the diversity of the staff, and the attentiveness of the chef/owner. I saw five folks working the kitchen that night, including the chef, and two were women, and one was a foreign woman (I think French?)! I've never seen a foreign sous chef in a Japanese restaurant, and I have to imagine that this is a special apprenticeship for her, given the uniqueness of the restaurant concept. I'm very impressed that the chef would be open to such diversity on his team, and congratulate him on it! The chef was also very attentive, checking in on how I liked the meal (loved it!) and bowing me out. Will definitely come here next time I am in Tokyo!

* Sougo is vegetarian by Japanese standards - the standard menu definitely contain fish stock. If you want a vegan set, you can call ahead 24 hours in advance and they will arrange.

We really enjoyed our lunch at Sougo. The food is mainly vegetarian, but they do use fish stock and fish flakes, so vegans or anyone with fish allergies needs to make a reservation in advance and let them know so they can make seaweed broth instead. We had a hard time finding it because it’s on the third floor, but it’s lovely inside and the service was good (though they don’t speak much English, so be sure to brush up on some basic Japanese first!).

外国からのお客様をお連れして5000円のランチコースを頼みました。料理はとても手が込んでいて仕事も丁寧、味も悪くないと思います。演出や器も外国人が喜びそうなデザインのものが多かったと感じました。気になったのはホール担当が足らないのか、お茶やお冷のおかわりにはこちらがお願いするまで気付いていただけませんでした。極め付けは店員さんが食器を下げる際、我々の足元にあまりきれいではない水をこぼされたのですが、こちらが気付いて足元を気にするまで何も言わず床を拭いていました。せめて濡れたかどうかの確認くらいいただけたら良かったのですがそれも無し。更に足元に置いていた荷物と服がかなり濡れてしまっていたのにナプキンを一つ渡されて「大丈夫ですか?」のみ。あとで上長が来るのかと思っていたらそれも無し。帰り際にこちらが伝えるまで伝わってすらいませんでした。「クリーニング代を請求していただければお支払いします」と言われましたがそんなこと大切なお客様がいらっしゃる前で言わないで欲しかったです。(辞退しました。)他にも箸袋やナプキンの説明がなかったとか、細かいことは色々あるのですが、そこは許容範囲ですのでいいとして。全体的に見て、今回がたまたまなのかもしれませんが、お客様をお連れ出来るサービスのレベルではとてもないと感じました。安い店ではないのにあれは残念です。友達にもおすすめすることはないですし、再訪は有り得ないです。

The food was delicious, service impeccable. There are very few fully vegetarian places in Tokyo, this one is worth going to. Burdock root sushi was the most delicious sushi we'd ever eaten. Restaurant was very quiet when we arrived at 6pm, so it was very nice to have the place to ourselves, got a bit louder towards 8pm. Drinks were good, and we appreciated the chef's trying to explain things in English to us.

The food is prepared carefully and generously reflecting seasonal vgitables. It is so tasty, i would go there every time I'm in Tokyo. Great service, qualiry, atmosphere, and the value. If I were the Michelline person, I would rate them at least one star.

和食、精進料理の素晴らしいお店です。
天丼御前をいただいたのですが、前菜のサラダから甘味まで季節や旬のものをいただける料理ばかりでした。
また、近いうちに食べに行きたいと思えるようなお店でした。

We were looking for a vegetarian alternative in Tokyo and found Sougo. The booking was very easy and we found our way there without trouble. The service was professional and very respectful. We chose to have the lower and middle priced options of the 3 set courses. The food was fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. Although we chose the menus with fewer courses there was certainly plenty of food with the many small dishes giving us a wonderful range and variety. I would recommend Sougo to others without hesitation.

社員の苦労を労う「暑気払い」の会として、少人数のランチで利用しました。精進料理なので、揚げ物は多めですが、どれも軽く、素晴らしい料理ばかりでした。デザートのクリームも驚くほど、さっぱり軽く(泡のような)、社員も喜んでくれて、感謝しています。これからも、何度も足を運ばせていただきます。

I went to Sougo expecting an intelligent modern twist on shoojin ryoori, brought by a chef that was once in front of a Michelin started restaurant. I had 3 traditional shoojin ryoori meals while I Japan, all of which I really enjoyed, but Sougo was somewhat disappointing.
The meal consisted of 6 small dishes (the stars of the table), as expected, and a Udon (a modest, but very well made side).
My impression was that, in the dishes, when innovation was tried, the experience was underwhelming and didn't justify the departure from traditional, and the more traditional servings did not provide the real experience of this amazing cuisine.
Overall Sougo is fairly priced and even cheaper than more traditional restaurants and is worth a go if you want to try something different. If you want a real kaiseki experience, I would recommend a more traditional restaurant.

ベジタリアンのイタリア人と伺いました。
予約の際ベジタリアンである旨を書きましたら、お店からわざわざ連絡が入り、魚の出汁とか卵とかがOKかどうか尋ねて下さいました。また、英語メニューはなかったものの、注文を取る際、英語での説明をしてくださいました。こういったきめ細やかなサービスは好感が持てました。

お食事は彼女も私も満足しましたが、飲み物が”暖かい緑茶”というオーソドックスなものがなく残念です。”温かいお煎茶”を注文するとなぜか2度も番茶しか出てきませんでした。日本の緑茶は海外では空前のブームです。ぜひそちらの方もそろえていただきたいと思います。

定期的にお伺いしているお店ですが、毎回誰に紹介してもみんな満足しています。お食事のプレゼンテーションも味も素晴らしいです。ワインリストがもうちょっとコスパがいいものが充実しているといいのですが。

大変おいしくいただきました。六本木の真ん中とは思えないコストパフォーマンスです。ただ、ボリュームが今一つ。うどんは結構ボリュームがありますが、雑炊と蕎麦のボリュームは少ないので、男性には物足りないと思います。デザートを加えたコースなら、ちょうどいいと思いますが。

Excellent vegetarian meal with good balance in service - good explanations of food but not over the top. Good pace of dishes and all beautifully presented. Hospitality extended outside restaurant with chef advising us of best way to our hotel and walking us to bus stop!!

3回目の来店、今回も満足するお料理ばかりでした。妊婦の友人用に、こちらの希望通りにクッションなど準備して頂き、大変ありがたかったです。味はもちろん、器や盛り付けも楽しめます。外国の方にも喜ばれるお料理だと思います。ホッとしたい時に訪れたいお店です。またお世話になります。

Sougo is divine! Service is incredible and food is unique and tasty. We had a beautiful dinner for our anniversary. I recommend it to any vegetarian looking for a fancy spot in Tokyo. You must call at least a day prior to get pure vegetarian dinner.
