Source is a bit of a favourite of ours, and it didn't disappoint again! Fantastic food and great staff!
Food was good but beer is ridiculously expensive small cans of craft beer
Our first visit to this restaurant, recommended by a friend, we were very pleased with everything. Nice welcome, drinks service speedy, the menu is very good, good selection of different foods to sample. Will definitely be going back!
We really enjoyed our dinner... I got the ratatouille, which was made to order and so delicious (although I probably would have liked it cooked a bit more, but that's just me). My husband got the nachos with pulled pork which was so good. The pulled pork rivals good bbq in the Southern US! Kids menu was wonderful. My picky kid got plain pasta and tomato sauce while my great eater got a quinoa superfood salad. Food was healthy (nachos may be the exception!), creative, and delicious! Service was very good.
Lovely food, great flavours, amazing service - waiter was very attentive and gentlemanly.
Very friendly , staff attentive , varied menu . We had the tray dishes the beef brisket and the chips were really good
Central location, nice range of veggie options. Slow cooked pork was a highlight. Corn bread was a disappointment.
Source has a great menu with lots of vegetarian dishes. We were even offered a vegan menu.
The food was prepared with lots of attention to detail, as was the service.
Great restaurant for a special meal.
We picked Source because of the excellent range of veggie and vegan options for my daughter and her partner and even us non veggies had a great evening. Food was excellent and bill very reasonable. Only drawback was that it was rather noisy could do with some more drapes on the walls to absorb the sound. Would still highly recommend especially for veggies
A great place to eat!
Disappointing and bland food, no flavour what so ever. Service was great though.
Lovely place for vegans and omnivores alike! Two separate menus. All lovely food.
I had not heard of Sourse before but I was really surprised by the quality and taste of the food. There was plenty of it and we felt pleasantly full. I really loved the wooden chairs and the tables gave the restaurant a very rustic feel. They have something on the menu called Trays and the food i.e. Pulled pork was served on a tray, nice idea. Overall a very pleasant evening served by very pleasant and helpful staff
Service was good to begin on arrival but attentiveness soon faded. Three waitresses and perhaps 10 tables, you would expect spot on service. We shared nachos which were enjoyed; it was a generous size and the dipping sauces were different and tasty. Main courses, we went for the meat options with chips and a side included. My brisket was quite dry and I did not feel it was good value for money, priced at £15 for the portion. I at least expected it to taste exceptionally good. We didn't go for dessert but if we enjoyed the main meal more I think we could have been tempted.
Nice restaurant with a range a choices for meat eaters & vegan/veggies. Good decorations too. Easy to find as well.
Great slow cooked meats and a good choice of vegetarian meals, my friends Ratatouille looked amazing! Not a huge selection of beers but they did have a couple IPAs in cans that did me. Price wasn't too bad as well, three meals and 4 drinks totalled £61.
Everything was fresh and delicious! Their bread was heavenly! My husband and I are not big eaters, but the "low and slow" platter with a variety of slow cooked meats was perfect for us. Also, you MUST try the hallumi cheese!!! Made by a local family of Syrian family. Don't ask, just try it!!!!
Beautiful loverly tasting fresh food, we visited for a family meal and couldn't of been more pleased with the food and service
We went to Source for lunch and shared the squid, chicken wings and nachos with pulled pork between the two of us. All plates were delicious and it was great to have nachos with a bit of a twist with the smashed squash. Service was lovely, friendly and attentive and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting York.
amazing service and great food
First time at this restaurant and we went for my friends birthday, we had lovely food , I enjoyed trying jackfruit & my friends never had corn bread before, it was lovely to go somewhere different rather than the usual chain restaurants. I would defo recommend it & go again
An extraordinary restaurant which shows that good, intelligently though out food, prepared well and served with smiles and interest from the team at perfectly reasonable prices is possible. I have eaten there lots of times now and have never yet been disappointed. Several friends have been taken as well, and they all concur that this is a fantastically good restaurant.
This is the perfect place for casual and delicious food. Loved the easy going atmosphere. Excellent menu with great variety for alternate diets. Friendly service and great for families.
Excellent service and food very good too, struggled after nacho's to find space for main course!!
Lovely food and great service!! Highly recommend and would go back again.
We were sadly disappointed. My friend and I ordered chicken burgers. The chicken appeared to have a hickory/BBQ marinade which we hadn't spotted and this ruined for us what might otherwise have been a nice burger. My Husband was also upset that there wasn't any lager he liked, the one on offer being too hoppy and perfumed for him. Having said that we all really enjoyed our starters and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice.
Delicious fresh food, tabbouleh was amazing, good choice from meaty to vegan, nice atmosphere and lovely waitress Lisa.
Great meal, especially the innovative vegetarian options. Bit puzzled by the sweet cornbread with the slow cooked beef and could have done with more bread or some rice with the lovely shakshaya. The only real drawback was the freezing gale from the air con unit opposite our table. Would definitely come back.
Extraordinary food, a rarity in York. Always reliably good, very friendly service, not rushed (if you are in a hurry, this may not be for you). The food is inventive, in good quantity (some places leave you feeling peckish - not this one!), and packed with flavour. Give your tastebuds a night out and go.
Excellent service, easy and helpful booking. Mam's birthday - fab food, drinks and atmosphere. Super friendly staff who supplied a candle for the delicious dessert/birthday cake! Highly recommend.
Wholesome healthy and and flavoursome food. A great find and we'll certainly go again. Casual atmosphere but warm and welcoming - lovely staff and good service. However it's the quality of the food which we enjoyed - light but filling healthy options which are often difficult to find in many bistros and restaurants .
A gem of a place and unique. Amazing food, lovely staff. Great place for a lite bite or full on meal /wines etc. I'm hooked and working my Way through the menu!! Amazing little find
Superb food. Kids enjoyed and so did we.
I booked this after reading reviews without knowing the area for a leisure trip. What a find! Lovely food, service and environment. Excellent veggie choices but loads of meat and fishing options as well. It's not cheap but worth it. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Great selection of food and excellent service. After a large lunch earlier in the day some of our party were thankful of being able to order smaller portions of the salads. Puddings also looks great but alas we didn't have space this time but will be back to try next time!
We enjoyed the restaurant, and the food was very good. Although not particularly busy, we found the noise of an adjacent party excessive. Not that they were doing more than talking loudly; I just think some attention to the acoustics would help a lot.
Yet another amazing dinner at Source. Simple delicious and lovely atmosphere . Will come back soon .
The environment was promising at first. Proximity to other diners, including some pretty noisy children, and the cramped size of the varnished timber tables, took the edge off what might have been an unusual experience. The decor was somewhat 70's-hill-billy, and the staff were friendly and knew the menus well. But to wait over 10 minutes to order drinks, then over 10 minutes more to order food, then another 20 minutes for the food to be delivered was not as one might expect. The pulled-chicken was actually excellent. The sliced beef was chewy, cool and really not worth the effort despite the sliced gherkin plopped on top. The pulled pork was delicious. The fries were perfect for us. It might all have benefited from a chili / avocado / mayonnaise dip tray, and perhaps a side salad. More a cafe than a restaurant, we thought - but perhaps priced more as a restaurant than a cafe.
There is a very chilled atmosphere about the place and the staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful. The food was served very quickly and was very good next time we are in York we will definitely be booking again.
