It was our anniversary. Food and staff were great! I look forward to going back soon. I would highly recommend.
Everything was delicious from the drinks straight through the desserts. You can’t go wrong here.
First inexpensive restaurant I’ve been to where EVERY item we’ve had each time was spectacular.
The overall experience was delightful- the food was excellent (and abundant). We both had the pear walnut salad to start and then we had the chicken Milanese and the chicken scallopine. The $18 lunch pris fixe was a fabulous value. There was a great selection of wines by the glass. The waitstaff was attentive but kept their distance. We felt like we were eating in a bistro in Rome or NYC, just with fewer people.
Great food, the patio is well set-up. Some of the heat lamps didn't seem to be producing much/any heat, we were freezing until we moved next to one that actually worked.
I thought the food was solid and the prices were reasonable. We ordered 3 appetizers and had 4-5 rounds of drinks and the total came to about $90. The happy hour drink list is solid (although we had to ask for it/it was not initially provided to us).
The service was mixed. We were slow to initially order drinks (it was a first date) and after we asked for more time, we didn't see our waiter for 15 minutes. Then there were times where we were picking at food and we'd get asked 5 times in a short span of time if we were still working. It felt a bit passive aggressive but we still had a nice time.
Food was fresh and delicious. Cesar the bartender really knows how to make a drink ! Totally recommend you try this place once!
Great food. Great service. Will definitely go again! Perfect date night!
Delicious! We enjoyed our meals very much (Seafood Risotto and Branzino). Service was wonderful-attentive and considerate. We’ll be back!
Anniversary dinner was awesome. Service was great.
The menu is really nice and they have a lot of options. They have outside and inside. Very nice. Waiters do nice too. A very good experience all around.
Great food and service. While I appreciated outdoor heaters, didn’t really warm up area.
Hi!
We have tried a lot of restaurants in New Haven and wanted to give South Bay a try and the Restuarant Week menu looked yummy. We were surprised by the food. All the food on the menu sounded like it had so much flavor, but the food we received was very blain and no flavor. We were very disappointed. We wanted the fried calamari that was on the menu but got grilled calamari. We did not say anything because we thought at first that was fried calamari to the restaurant, but then realized everyone else was receiving the actually fried calamari. We are not much to complain and it was freezing outside so we just ate and decided not to send the food back.
Unofrtuently I do not see us going back to South Bay, it is very pretty and good vibe, but the food just did not do it for us.
Great food, drinks and service..
Neither social distancing nor masks were adhered to in the outdoor dining area. The clusters of people and the noise they generated was very unacceptable.
The service was absolutely terrible..I have a friend who has been often to South Bay and she said the service is always so bad too. Probably won’t go again!
We ordered our drinks and five tapas together. After 50 mins of being at the table we received our drinks and the tapas were literally right behind from another server. While we waited they brought over a 3” piece of baguette, olive oil and TWO OLIVES, for a table of four. When the tapas arrived The oysters were literally dried out on top and the ice was melted from sitting in the window probably waiting for the bar, the burrito salad had less than half a burrata. We had steak and tuna tartare which came with maybe 4 square inches of bread for each, the tartare and salad were good. The drinks were just ok. At this point we had been there for 70ish minutes and each had a few bites of food and one drink. We were waiting for the last two tapas which were tater tots and egg rolls so we decide to order another round of drinks. At around the 90 minute mark we got 3 of the drinks and the beer never came, one of the drinks wasn’t drinkable and was loaded with mint. Every time food/drinks would come out of the door, everyone on the patio looked, hoping it was theirs. When it hit the TWO HOUR mark we decided to ask for our check and cut our losses. At no point did a manager come out and remedy the situation that everyone was experiencing. We had planned a nice double date for a special occasion. At around $40 a head, each of us had 1.5 drinks (we shared the second round bc we only got two) 1 oyster, 1 small piece of bread, 1-2 ounces of each tuna and steak tartare on a quarter piece of bread, and 1/2 of an olive. We asked for more olives four times and were told they were coming but it never came, neither did the last two tapas. We made the best of it and it was so bad to the point of being comical. Total waste of money when it comes to the food and drinks because it was around $160 is with tip and we left hungry. Oh and the bathroom smelled like there was a septic leak and you could smell it in the restaurant.
Over all great experience and loved the 50% off a bottle on Mondays
Food was delicious and at a great value but both myself and my partner use to be in the service industry the experience was just awful. First off, as we were sitting outdoors, we saw our server leave for the day mid meal. We were not aware she would no longer be serving us and did not bring over a replacement staff for introduction. As we had just finished our appetizer as she was leaving we waited another 40 minutes for our entrees and this was lunch so it consisted of a wrap and a panini. No one checked on us after our food was delivered and we essentially were left to fend for ourselves. It didn’t help matters that there were all of 2 tables outside at the time so it’s not like there was a rush with no coverage. Overall the service and customer experienced just killed how good the food tasted.
Great experience! Loved the Tapas menu and the excellent service!
FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN NEW HAVEN!! Everything we’ve tried is delicious! They have a lunch menu (two courses for $18) and it’s just as good as their regular one.
Service is great and the waiters are very nice and polite.
It’s less pricey than other restaurants in the area and in our opinion the food is a lot better.
Would recommend for any occasion.
I always have a blast when I eat here. They have the best food and ambience.
This was my third visit. The Waiter was superb. They also offer 50% off on bottles of wine under $100 on Sunday/Monday which is nice. I had the “crispy” red snapper (was not crispy). My husband had the “crispy” duck breast (was not crispy). He asked that it be cooked medium rare but it wasn’t. It was well done. The flavor of the food was good, but my bok choy was tepid and bland. I will try again...
