We offer reservations for seating in our main dining room, the Avondale Room for large parties and private events, on our covered patio (with ceiling fans for warm weather and infrared heaters for cold), and at high top tables in the bar-adjacent Skylight Room.
My food was delicious as usual. I always order the fish n grits and it never disappoints. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food. The waitress was quick and responsive and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I guess I kinda expected fried chicken done right but this was soooo much more!! I wanted to try several chicken dishes but once I saw the Red Rice on the menu my mind was made up! I am so glad I chose this dish, but I also got to taste my friends chicken and biscuits and that was just fantastic. I can’t wait to go back and order that for myself! We did have the fried green tomatoes but the breading was quite thick and very salty. It overwhelmed the tomatoes so we peeled off the coating and enjoyed the tomatoes.
Was not impressed with the food experience after ordering the “basic brunch” on Saturday. We both ordered the brunch with an add on waffle and the waiter had barely left our table before returning with our food so no way this was cooked to order. The food was lukewarm and my biscuit was so cold the butter wouldn’t melt on it. Clearly they just had as assembly line going and had this stuff just sitting ready to go.
I’ve been coming to South for a while and this was by far the most disappointing experience.
The macaroni was to die for!!! We started with the shrimp appetizer, the shrimp were HUGE and delicious :)
Moving into dinner, a pork chop and Nashville HOT chicken and waffles made my mouth water. THE MACARONI. WOW. 10/10.
Service was great, I can’t remember the waitresses name, she mentioned she was new but she was very friendly and efficient!
Went to brunch for my wife’s birthday. Service was superb and the food was delicious.
Fantastic food & great venue. Recommend the okra appetizer & chicken & waffles for entree.
We really liked the food we ordered. But, the server could have been more attentive. We chose this restaurant because of the menu items listed on the website. when we got there we found the menu very different. They need to do a better job of updating their online menu.
This was a great Birthday gathering for me. Frank was the best and very patient with everyone.
Food was just so so. The overall feeling of our group was that not much had super good flavor, seasoning not much . Biscuits and Caesar salad were great though.
Good food and drink specials for a Sunday. Service was great, food was good. Bottomless mimosas were a great deal.
First time visit for brunch on Sunday for a local book club. Love the decor and the noise level was minimal. Brunch options were incredible and our party enjoyed everything especially the maple Bourbon biscuits. Can’t wait to come back with my husband very soon.
Nice patio with live music—not too loud.
Great service and food.. it was a little to salty but overall it was great. I do recommend the chicken and waffles those were perfect.
Our server was subpar and her first words were, “it’s been a long day.” I made a substitution on my salad from fried to grilled chicken and I had a very small amount of chicken compared to another woman dining in my party who had a significant amount.
Extra dressing is an up charge besides the single side they provide.
I highly recommend the beef stroganoff!! All of the dishes were tried were delicious. The Gouda grits were a hit... Will add this to my favs list
Birthday brunch, great food, beverages and service!
I would like to say that that was the best experience I have ever had in a restaurant in a long time I took my bestest girlfriend with me there and between the wonderful waiter Frank and the management and seen to it that our meal was up to par and it was more than up to par absolutely delicious I'd recommend everybody make a point of visiting south kitchen and spirits.
Was an amazing time. We were there for my grandmas birthday and she loved the food. The atmosphere felt amazing, we went after church. Our waitress was the sweetest and had a smile the entire time. Food was AMAZING. Mac n Cheese is to die for! We got on super quick since we had reservations. Will 100% be back soon and introducing people to one of the best places to eat in JAX.
Great food and service. We will definitely be back.
No wait time
First time there. Nice southern menu selection overall. Nice entrees and starters.
This was my first time visiting South Kitchen + Spirits and it was a good experience. Food was very tasty with a good selection for lunch. This was a work function and the attendees had a good time and we were able to have good discussion and hear each other. We will visit South Kitchen in the future!
Great spot for weekend brunch! The food was delicious, and the mimosas were bottomless.
We went for an impromptu brunch. I love the sugar biscuits with the grits. The sweet and savory do the trick. Bottomless hair of the dog is just what you need to start a Sunday Funday or pick you up for a long Saturday night
packed brunch menu, and it won't disappoint! service was good too
Everyone was pleased with food and service. Several commented that the waffles were the best they ever had.
Our dinner was great and the service was excellent! Really enjoyed our evening
Excellent service for a large group that included children.
I’ve been to this restaurant several times. I’ve noticed a decline in food quality and portions. I ordered the chicken and waffles and received one leg, one wing and what looked like 2 chicken nuggets. The side dish of collards was the size of two spoonfuls. When asked about the quality and quantity of the food, the waitress blamed the collard portion on them using a larger bowl than usual and the kitchen is “switching things around”. Disappointed in the price for what I received. Along with the hair in my ranch dressing but that’s another issue.
Myself and my boyfriend's first time! It was great the service was super! From start to finish the food, drinks and friendly bartender. We will definitely be going back.
Our server was outstanding! She was on top of every aspect of our brunch. We had a big party 2 tables of 8 people, so 16 in total and she served us without missing a beat. Food was great and drinks were never empty and she had a very positive and happy demeanor. If I had to say the only drawback was the US Women's Soccer game was on and the manager would not allow the volume to be played. We were told he did not want the ambiance of the restaurant to feel like a sports bar. Considering it was the World Cup Final we thought that was a less than stellar excuse to not want the volume to be aired.
Delicious brunch. Chicken and waffles were so good.
Staff was overwhelmed and it came through in their service.
Service was great and food was good. Strange they had a brunch special with shrimp but they were out of shrimp? Not sure why it would be a special if you are out and we were the 3rd table of the day. We drove from Savanah for the Charleston Red Rice with shrimp :-(
Server was very nice and the steak was cooked perfect. Desert was dry and our Bailey's was bright to us in a shot glass ( that was a first ) Setting up a table and dragging the chairs across the floor next to us while we ate was another first. Just on need of training and the place could be awesome. So I wish them well and hope they do train as there are many great places to eat in Jacksonville
Food was not great. Not a lot of options. The service was phenomenal.
The food is pretty good and the happy hour is a treat. I would recommend.
The waiter was rude and took forever but the food was good.
Fathers Day dinner ! Everything was great, food and service were exceptional.
We loved the ambience and we were greeted and seated quickly by a friendly hostess. Our server was attentive however it took a very long time for our food to come out once we'd ordered and when it arrived it was only luke warm, as if it had been sitting a while before it reached our table. The brunch dishes we ordered were good, not amazing, but fine. We ordered three different desserts and weren't happy with any of them. Between the five of us we ate the banana cheesecake and the blueberry shortcake but sent the coconut cake back - and were still charged for it even though it wasn't eaten. This was a family get together celebrating my son buying his first home - we very much enjoyed being together but I don't think any of us plan to visit the restaurant again since it's pretty expensive for food that's just ok and dessert not worth having. It's too bad because the location is great and the atmosphere was warm and inviting, just wish the food would have been better.
