South Sands Hotel Restaurant
A lovely evening. The food was excellent and cooked to our taste. The waiters were attentive and courteous.
We really enjoyed our traditional afternoon tea at South Sands Hotel.
The dining room was lovely with a lovely view over the beach and out to sea.
From the first moment, all the staff were friendly, welcoming and happy to fulfil our needs.
The afternoon tea was well presented in a stylish three tiered vertical wooden frame.
There was a good range (4 types) of trimmed sandwich fingers, two warm scones with tasty strawberry jam and clotted cream and a selection of cake pieces.
Needless to say we enjoyed it all and left nothing.
The only slight down side was the loud family group on an adjacent table. The adults appeared to have over indulged on the prosecco. 😁
Very good all round. Stunning location, would love to go back in good weather!
Afternoon tea was well presented but average
We were never told what the sandwiches were going to be and never asked if we had any dietary requirements
Josh the waiter looked like he didn’t want to be there, not attentive and lacked any enthusiasm
Very nice restaurant, great service, wonderful views over the bay, good value for money and excellent food options.
A generally excellent experience which was unfortunately slightly tainted by the fact we were initially made to feel quite unwelcome due to the fact we had a baby in a pram and our waiter seemed far from happy to accommodate. If the service charge wasn’t automatically added I certainly wouldn’t have tipped.
Excellent family lunch for 8 - great location , efficient friendly service , scrummy food !
Lovely, light, comfortable restaurant with wonderful views. Food delicious, service good, staff friendly. Would highly recommend.
Incredible view, lovely staff and very nice food. I am as a little disappointed at the selection of seafood dishes until I spotted the hot seafood, was delicious. It’s not cheap but you pay for the view. Kids were happy but would have liked their own seafood selections, ended up getting starter of mussels for my daughter.
Wonderful meal and evening out.
Fast, professional service.
Great food and good value.
Lovely to see vegan options featuring on the menu.
And a beautiful view to top it off.
I had the chilli crab linguine and it was the best I’ve ever had. It was so delicious I can’t wait to come back and have it again 😁
Food is delicious and in a beautiful location. Right by the beach.
Very obliging waitress friendly and helpful with menu x
Fabulous location and great food and ambiance!!!we turned up early and sat and had a drink in perfect location- overlooking the sea!! Restaurant allowed us to eat slightly earlier than our booking... which suited us perfectly!! Food was excellent!!!
Good food and excellent service. The weather was bad so the view was dramatic but the inside was cosy. We enjoyed the sharing board as a starter. Would recommend offering house red and white wines as the wine is expensive.
we always have a lovely time here thanks again and see you soon x
Excellent venue for a relaxing evening with friends. Menu varied so plenty of choice for everyone. Good service.
Anniversary dinner, very disappointing. Diner-style menu. Very limited veggie options. Service uninterested in our experience and long wait for food. Clearly seasonal staff with little waiting experience. Preoccupied clearing up restaurant around us (at about 9.30pm) - presumably keen to finish shift - and seemed too busy despite there only being about 4 or 5 other tables occupied with diners. Offered dessert menu and then ignored for 20mins, by which time we had to get bill as the only taxi available was at 10.20pm. Restaurant knew this as they had booked it for us!
Nice setting over beach and good for seafood, but for an expensive hotel restaurant, a very disappointing experience overall.
Looking a bit tired. Windows needed a clean. Not sure the manager was on site.
We had a wonderful lunch at South Sands Hotel, the staff were really attentive but we didn't feel hurried at any point. The also arranged a birthday desert for my mother which was very much appreciated. We'll definitely return.
Service level (waiters) in Restaurant is quite poor.
Lovely restaurant with fantastic views and nice relaxed atmosphere.Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent menu and lovely food. Would recommend.
Bit of a wait for menus etc and the waiter managed to knock a full glass of wine over my wife which rather spoiled the mood. Whereas the wine was replenished we did not really get an apology.
Wonderfully located hotel with an excellent restaurant. I have stayed here before but just here for dinner on this occasion, and it did not disappoint. Excellent seafood and an unparalleled view.
Lovely to sit in window and watch the tide ebb & flow. Lovely fresh seafood .
Fantastic 50th Wedding Anniversary surprise afternoon tea for our friends. Amazing!
We chose to celebrate our 7th Wedding Anniversary here as it is where I proposed to my wife.
Setting is beautiful & female member of staff was attentive.
Food was only average (at best) & expensive for what was served.
They presented a decorated plate with fruit & chocolate at the end of our meal to mark the occasion but we both left feeling a little disappointed & underwhelmed with somewhere that holds a special place in our hearts 🙁
Great spot with lovely views. Service was slow - not waiting staff’s fault however as seemingly understaffed. The food was fine- definitely nothing spectacular and I would say overpriced as a result. Nice for something simple like a burger or sandwich
Fantastic. As always super food and great service, thank you.
Delicious food, beautifully presented and very tasty.
Fabulous dining experience, excellent food and great service .
Some of the best seafood we have ever eaten! We had the crevettes and calamari to start, followed by crab linguine and a crab sandwich, which were all without exception excellent! It was our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff surprised us with a ‘Happy Anniversary’ decorated plate with some fresh fruit and a chocolate treat. It is not cheap, but wonderful for a treat and therefore value for money for the experience.
Absolutely superb! The staff friendly and professional. The menu is excellent and good value especially if you like Seafood. Wide ranging wine list which the staff are knowledgeable about. Great setting looking over the bay with interesting design features in the hotel.
Wont do steak medium rare.
Amazing place service and staff and food all 100% thank you see you soon Vernon Cook
We visited the Hotel for afternoon tea as part of my Father-in-law’s 90th birthday celebrations. We were very disappointed with the failure to implement arrangements that we had made with SSH before the visit and again on the day.
1.My wife had stressed when making the original booking that a member of the party suffered from a nut allergy and that no nuts should be included as part of the tea. She also rang on the morning to confirm again that the request had been noted and was assured by the receptionist that this would be taken care of.
2.However when we arrived and eventually the tea was served it was obvious that this had been overlooked and the cakes contained nut ingredients across the choices including almonds etc. We did not complain at the time simply because it was a celebratory occasion but we made sure that the particular guest was aware and advised accordingly.
3.As part of the meal several in our party had other menu choices and when the bill arrived at the end of the meal, the afternoon tea (for two) charge had been levied – despite the fact that we had provided a Voucher to the waiter at the table before ordering. The bill was withdrawn and amended accordingly.
We have used the Hotel restaurant numerous times in the past and have always been impressed by the service. However on this occasion it fell below the usual high standards
We were greeted most pleasantly. A beautiful table with views out to sea. The service impeccable. The food delicious, fresh and of high quality. Thank you South Sands Hotel.
WE arrived late because of a storm and stressed as our disabled daughter had just had surgery and the welcome and service and food were fabulous
Lovely lunch! X
Really enjoyed our afternoon tea here, despite a small hic-cup over the number of people having it. That's one of the only reasons for not a 5. The only other is that the website says smart casual, but there were people with dogs (don't get me wrong, I love dogs) and beach wear, and walking boots etc. I would have been quite happy to come dressed like that had the website not said "smart" casual. That said great staff, good food, and you cant fault location for the view. The on site infused Gin is worth the trip on its own.
