Restaurant had a nice feel to it. Was busy during the festival and I got the sense they were understaffed. Tasty burgers were well presented. Small portions of chips and quite a lack lustre brownie that was straight out of the fridge. It wasn't bad - but their website and branding suggested an above average experience that it didn't deliver.
We dined on Saturday 10th Aug, and the gas was off so menu was limited however we were only told after getting our drinks.
The food was hen very slow to arrive, chicken was ok but for signature dish it was not really succulent enough.
Quesadillas were lots of cheddar cheese and a few bits of beef, bee was nice but there was no real flavour, spring onions, chilli pepper etc etc - lacked flavour.
Ribs were nice.
It was a shame as the menu looked really nice and we were a little disappointed.
Turned up and was put at an awkward table, my kids actually went under the table to get it their seats. We asked to move which was fine, but we ended up pulling out two tables together.
We then had a different person taking orders who was very pleasant.
The food was very bland and did not live up to what the menu said about being crispy charcoal chicken. The ribs were dry and the sweetcorn on the cob was almost mush in the cob.
The server did give us a small discount which was appreciated. Unlikely I will ever be back.
The restaurant was excellent. Unfortunately the booking was incorrectly made by open table and my email confirmation was at a different time to confirmation sent to the restaurant. The staff handled it well and found us a spot. Disappointed with the open table app.
Me and my boyfriend were on a weekend away to Edinburgh when we ate at Spatch. Staff was very friendly, was seated quickly and food was quick.
Food was amazing! Best place we’ve eaten at for a very long time. We both had the Chuck Norris burger which was delicious, chips, garlic corn on the cob and BBQ chicken wings. The size of the chicken wings amazed us they were huge.
Could not fault it at all. Really wish there was a Spatch in Essex/London so we could keep going back!!
Food was ok, we ordered the Clint Beastwood burger, it said it came with pulled brisket but it was just lumps of tough meat on top? It had no taste could have had some relish or sauce, and it was served on a teeny plate?
This restaurant is centrally located in the heart of Edinburgh near the Castle and the action during the fringe festival. The food and service are great and the ambiance is wonderful.
We ate at Spatch after a long flight from the U.S. The spatchcock chicken was just the remedy for exhaustion of jet lag. Do NOT pass up the "collards!" A mix of greens sautéed in butter and garlic, they were simply delicious.
Good selection of food, prepared well, and tasty! Service was outstanding. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and relaxing.
Lovely spot. Great food. Extremely friendly staff (Charlotte in particular 😉). Really enjoyed my evening with my husband!
Excellent chicken sandwich and great wings.
Had a great meal here, excellent food and service. Child's activity pack was a nice touch.
We had one of the chicken burgers, half chicken, and child's fish goujons. A particular hit was the Irn Bru chilli jam, very addictive!! Good value for central Edinburgh, would go again.
Tasteless overpriced food pre a visit to Usher Hall...firstly my coffee was cold..half a chicken was a piece of chicken Breast with three burnt looking bones alongside...other meal was vergetarian rice..bland with tomatoes and not a lot else inspiring...my daughter said I will have to have a hot chocolate to fill up on...ordered it minus the mallows n cream...could not even get that right..a glass of apple juice..was loaded with ice cubes..and ended up like coloured water...all in all the worst meal encountered..and an over priced one at that..not one bit Impressed
my family and i visit Spatch everytime we are in Edinburgh. The food, staff and ambience are top notch. The location is also fantastic. Well done to all
Really enjoyed Spatch. Would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Edinburgh. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere
Great food and service.
We had specifically come to Spatch due to their unlimited chicken wings on Wednesdays. We were seated very quickly, and the waitress took our order quickly too.
It took a while for our first drinks to arrive, and even longer for our first plates of chicken wings to arrive. When the chicken wings arrived they were cold. Also, the BBQ wings some of us orderdered tasted nearly identical to the sweet and spicy others ordered.
It took a long time to get the attention of a waiter to order more drinks/wings. We had another plate of largely flavourless wings (that took a long time to arrive) and just figured they don't put much flavour/sauce on them. We then got the buffalo wings which tasted excellent and had a lot of flavour.
After waiting for another long period of time to order, and an even longer time for the wings to be delivered, we had our next plate of wings. We went for what we had had originally - BBQ and sweet and spicy.
This time they both tasted very different and each had a lot of flavour/sauce. We ordered the same again for our next plates and this was the case again. I therefore believe they had forgotten to add the flavour/sauce to the first couple of plates of wings that we had.
At the end of the meal we waited a while to ask for the bill, but gave up and went to pay at the bar. By this point we had been at the restaurant for about 3 and a half hours (because of the poor service, not because we ate a huge amount).
All in all £12 for wings and a beer is a good deal, so I'm not as disappointed as I would normally be, but I think they should take more care with each plate of wings that they bring out, and also improve their service so as people don't have to wait for their food/drinks as long. I should also note that it wasn't particularly busy when we visited, and each drink we ordered was delivered around 10 minutes after ordering despite the bar area being very quiet.
I think will try this place again sometime to give them another chance.
great food and service portions are very big chips are better shared overall was a great meal with good music
Food was really good though I ordered far too much. I didn’t realise how big their chicken wings were. When I come back I ‘ll order fewer. Otherwise it was a perfect experience.
Lovely little place. Really enjoyed the food. Decor is lovely. Menu a little sparse but good is beautiful. Glad we found it. Will definitely visit again.
Amazing food but even better staff. The girl who served the food was very friendly and the food was amazing. Cheers from Dublin.
Dads and sons after the rugby at Murrayfield - great food, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Chicken wings a must and the burgers are pretty good too!! Will be back.
Me and my friend with our wifes was staying af Ten Hill Palace hotel only 7 minutes walks to Spatch. We were in Edinburgh for the weekend. We had cocktails starters, menu and good wine - booked the table easy on opentable.co.uk. Spatch is a very great place - Edinburgh and the Scottish people as well... We will be back that´s for sure... allready recommended it to friends and family
Enjoyed spatch visited during the Festival. Decor is quirky and nice. Menu simple but tasty.
Whilst we enjoyed the Spatch meal we were disappointed overall. There was nothing wrong with food service or location but we expected something more memorable (especially from the chicken flavour). The ribs were great but the chicken, honestly, was little better than KFC in taste.
Good but not great.....
Very nice 'chicken' resturant, with very tasty poultry. Different, in that it's not 'fast food' in any way.
This is a great little place in the heart of Edinburgh. Delicious comfort food perfect at the end of a long day. Family friendly too. We ordered a while chicken and shared sides. Excellent service, fun and friendly.
Right off the Mile. Wonderful cheerful service (though the food felt a bit slow). Chicken was yummy, but our favorite item was the sweet potato fries - absolutely the best!
We are so thankful open table helped I find this little gem! Delicious food, friendly service, great beer. We had the spatchcock chicken, Cluck Norris, cauliflower wings, vegetarian chili, avocado salad, sweet potato fries and best of all the homemade chips!
