St. Anselm - DC
Meh. Slow forgot things. Outside seating service is not great.
The Autumn Olives Pork sausage was amazing!
Great meal, wonderful atmosphere, and lovely staff!
Party going on upstairs, so we had the benefit of a 13 year old's playlist to jam to outside /s.
Can't be helped!
Inside was a great, tavern-ish rustic new steakhouse vibe. Hard to explain, but things looked right.
The food was tremendous. We got there around 8, and it took a while to be served with water but we hit the spot with a reservation at peak time. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. Around 8:15, service was top-notch and speedy. The food came in waves and drinks were great. Manhattan was a bit sweet but like we all say, ya can't tell after the 1st =)
Bacon was awesome. Oysters were just right. Our steaks were done perfectly medium.
9/10 would come back again but I'd check and make sure there wasn't a sweet 13 going on upstairs.
Everything was great. Moments that were less than perfect were responded to with sincere effort and apologies. Could not ask for more.
Excellent meal. A little expensive, but worth it. Great service. The outdoor seating is excellent.
Great time at St. Anslem. Great NY Strip and the Pimento cheese biscuits were amazing.
St. A's, as my friends and I call it, has literally become my favorite restaurant. I've had zero average experiences. St. A's is ALWAYS superb. The food is absolutely amazing and the attentive service is the cherry on top.
The service is always amazing and the food always delicious!
This place was amazing for mine and my husband's birthdays!! We were lucky to get a booth to ourselves, our server was fantastic and the food was on point. I highly recommend the biscuits, salmon collar and the ribeye. We will definitely return!
Great Birthday Celebration Dinner! Cocktails were strong and fresh, but not many options. However, wine list was extensive and quite impressive. Holy cow the biscuits and pimento cheese were, dare I say, the highlight of the night...but the smoked oysters and steaks held their own too! Wasn't overly impressed with the creamed spinach or pan friend mashed potato sides. Service was average...nothing extraordinary, but by no means bad. Empty glasses and plates sat on the table for quite a while. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant was accommodating for our request for a booth. Parking is always a pain at Union Market but doubt there is much to be done about that. Overall a very nice dinner with average service and a good atmosphere.
Trendy yet casual vibe. Cozy, dark decor. Wine on tap was a nice option. The beef was amazing: crusted, tender, tasty. The biscuits and smashed potatoes were notable. Good food, ambiance and service. Expensive but worth it for an occasion! Would love to sit at the bar next time!
Such good food. Awesome experience. Can’t wait to go back!
Went by myself for a treat yourself dinner for my birthday. Got seated outside at a table and not in a booth (guess I might have needed one more person) so the ambience I experienced wasn't amazing although the inside of the restaurant looked quite nice (very steak house!). I enjoyed the meal I ordered and my server was very attentive and helpful with recommendations! Enjoyed it and would recommend.
Incredible meal, start to finish. We enjoyed the crab deviled eggs as our starter. Two of us had the rock fish with creamed muscle sauce and another had the charred chicken. The sides were good too! Broccoli and creamed spinach. My friends loved their wine selection and I had one of their alcohol-free drinks with ginger - it was amazing. Topped off the dinner by sharing their amazing cookie. Excellent all the way around!
The food was outstanding, as expected. But the service, the nice woman who helped our table, was just the nicest, sweetest ever.
Made a reservation for Sunday brunch. Requested outdoor seating. The hostess took us to an outdoor “booth” all the way around the corner, literally the last booth farthest from the restaurant and next to a line of parked cars. It was early (11am) and there was still ample outdoor seating available, so I asked for a different table. The hostess was clearly annoyed, but we were seated near the intersection at 5th St, providing much better ambiance and great for people watching. Our server was slow to greet us. We waited almost 15 minutes. He apologized for the wait and provided great service from that point. The food was delicious. I had the blue crab deviled eggs and a salad. My friend had steak & eggs. We shared an order of biscuits which were heavenly.
Food and service was fantastic!
The food here is very good. The menu is not very big but , so far everything thing that I ordered (two visits) has been very tasty. My one disappointment was a salad that I that I ordered. The tomato and cucumber salad was way out of balance. The salad was all tomato and 3 thin cucumber slices. Not my idea of a tomato & cucumber salad. The small plate menu is small but very good. I especially enjoyed the grilled baby carrots, and okra. I also enjoyed their signature Biscuits. Flaky, crispy, and just touch of saltiness. Order them to go. Makes a great breakfast sandwich.
The ambience is nice but a tad noisy. Great for dinner with friends and family.
I will visit again. I enjoyed my two experiences and I recommend giving this place your consideration for a dining choice.
Excellent food! Highly recommend the ax handle ribeye
I LOVE ST. ANSELM, and anytime a friend is in town that hasn't tried it, it's my go-to. This experience was no different. We sat outside in a private booth-thing, which was great because it was quiet and personal. Our server was fun and charming and very good at his job. AND THE FOOD continues to be stupid fabulous: pimento biscuits (my friend kept talking about them the next day), a dozen oysters, creamed spinach, and the prime rib. We shared the entire meal over a delicious glass of wine, and it was divine. I felt like the smart kid for selecting this place, but it's really been my standard go-to for years. It's wonderful when "where to eat" is an easy decision.
Very good restaurant. Specializing in hearty and grilled foods. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great cocktails, and very large wine list.
Grilled swordfish delicious but swimming in butter. Grilled oysters also delicious but too small in size. Pimento cheese and biscuits amazing. Grilled okra very good. Sweet corn ice cream was very nice.
Everything on the menu is made to a high standard and will have you slapping the table with satisfaction. Old world style inside, with just a tad of quirkiness that makes you feel like you can relax or be high class. Can't recommend this place high enough, come hungry!
Experience was great from the moment we walked in. The recommendations by our server and other staff were excellent. Also the food itself was delicious, we had to resist ordering more oysters. All around a great experience and will definitely be back.
Amazing food and service. 5 pm reservation outside was the perfect time. And Ariana was amazing.
Wonderful dining experience with great food, fun ambience, and fantastic staff (especially the sommelier - Megan, who is awesome!). What a great night!!
Loved our waitress! We sat outside so it was def noisier than indoors but not loud. We loved it!
Celebration with friends
This food was amazing but the service was pretty bad. The server never checked on us unless we flagged them down. All the food arrived at once even though we purposely ordered starters and sides. Again, the food was great and so was the ambiance.
Our server was great and friendly which elevated the already-delicious food!
After hours of reading restaurant reviews, we chose this location to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary with our family. I have ZERO regrets. They sat us at the corner table with the curtains which allowed us to visit with each other. If you’re looking for an intimate experience, I highly recommend requesting this booth. It comfortably fit 6 of us. Our server was amazing. The wine list was daunting, so she sent a sommelier to our table. We told her what we were having and what we typically liked, and she chose the perfect bottle. We had 3 different kinds of steaks, and they were equally divine. My son said it was the best he’s ever tasted. The sides did not disappoint - I can’t even choose a favorite (although the creamed spinach probably gets my vote). Oh, and the cocktails!! Manhattan, aperitif, gin martini just to name a few - and they were all spectacular. You won’t hear one complaint from this girl - we will be back!
That panfried potatoes yummy. This my go to for good food in DC
Really good food. Got the salmon collar which was great. Blue crab devil eggs were OK, but wouldn't get again. Also had the half chicken (a little dry but tasty) and the prime 16oz ribeye (cooked to perfection). Ask for a booth for privacy and quiet.
We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is excellent the atmosphere is really cool and the drinks are fantastic. If you’re interested in a special evening of sharing delicious cuisine well portioned side dishes and love amazing steaks — you should go here.
It was a delightful dinner.
It was really good. We had a great evening at a great place with great food.

Always Awesome! Service is always great and everyone is so friendly - loved our server Aria!
