St. Anselm - DC
Overhyped..the special strip steak of the night was so fatty, we feel like our hostess oversold how great this strip was but all 4 of us were disappointed by how fatty and chewy it was.
Wonderful as usual. Started with cocktails, the bordelaire and the vodka cocktail. Love the biscuits with pimento cheese and salmon collar to share. Delicious ribeye, creamy spinach and fried mash potatoes. Topped it off with carrot cake and coffee. Highly recommend every thing.
Waitress was most accommodating and pure joy with communications, recommendations, providing tremendous restaurant history, art and symbolism’s.
My husband and I went for our anniversary. It exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to go back. The food was excellent, but the staff is really what made the evening memorable.
The dining room has a great vibe! Service was excellent from hostess greeting, to server and sommelier. The little things were fantastic, we had buttermilk biscuits, blue crab deviled eggs and baby iceberg lettuce with Heritage bacon. Great flavor and variety. The meat entrees were the only disappointment and underwhelming for the price. We had the Butchers steak and ribeye. They were prepared beautifully but a little too fatty for my liking. We also had the crispy young bono chicken which was the hit of the meal. The sides were fabulous, Cauliflower, spinach and steak fries. Ended
with a decadent ice cream cake and dark chocolate tart. Overall it was a great dining experience. We had brunch here previously, which was fantastic!
We had a wonderful meal. The food was delicious, (best buttermilk biscuits I’ve ever had, perfect salads, steaks and salmon collar cooked to perfection, amazing chocolate cake), the wine list, although a bit pricy, was huge, the servers were very helpful and attentive. This is a restaurant that truly deserves its popularity.
It was fantastic!
A modern take on a steakhouse with great veggie options. Everything we ordered was prepared well. Large protein portions lend themselves to sharing, and since sides are ordered a la carte, it works well to get a few to try and share.
Great restaurant that is not outrageously expensive. Cool environment. In an area with plenty of parking (most was also free parking). Highly recommend.
Delicious everything! Love the pork chop and the ribeye. Sides are awesome!
It was an amazing birthday celebration! I was there for my bday and a friends birthday too and we were kind of expecting our desserts with candles to be free but they weren’t! Other than that though it was wonderful. Would go back a million more times.
Really enjoyed St. Anselm. Food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I disliked ordering sides separately from the main dish, so I would appreciate seeing future offerings with curated plates instead of a la carte for the entree course.
Service was outstanding. Great recognition by hosts and servers recognizing our anniversary. Ribeye and chicken were not good. For the money they were very underwhelming. Deviled eggs were a hit as were the biscuits. Chop salad was good. Lobster Prawn was ok. I’ve cream cake was delish. Carrot cake was bitter
I loved everything except the totally excessive noise level. We were a party of 6. Could barely converse.
Having been to several Steven Starr restaurants, I had high expectations for St. Anselm. I was not disappointed. Service was great... and food was wonderful. I had the salmon collar, which was beyond amazing. My wife had S.O.S which was also outstanding.
The food was incredible, especially the sides and the appetizers. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the manager was very helpful with the extensive wine list.
Staff super friendly
We had a great dinner. The service is excellent and mains, vegetables, and biscuits were all wonderful. It is pretty loud, but overall great.
Service was outstanding and everyone’s steaks were phenomenal! Cooked to perfection! Didn’t love the bacon appetizer (very fatty) and the biscuits tasted burnt to me. But we will definitely come back - maybe for brunch!
Very busy and buzzy place. Cool little booths and open tables as well as some outdoor seating. The food was good if not outstanding. The wine list was exceptional backed by an exceptional Som. Vanessa who's advice was spot on.
The food was very tasty, but I wasn’t super impressed with the service. We weren’t seated until 20 minutes after our reservation time, which did earn us some free biscuits and that was great. But the server was very busy - which he told us right away when he came over - so we didn’t really get much attention there. Overall it was good food but just an okay experience.
Loved the vibe and the food! We had deviled eggs, skirt steak, pork porterhouse, and creamed spinach. Highly recommend!!
We had an AMAZING brunch here. Recommend highly: deviled eggs with crab, hash browns, biscuits and the salmon collar. Outstanding value for money, especially the salmon. Even if you are way too full for dessert, you gotta try the ice cream cake. They make the ice cream themselves and it is wonderful. Pleasant ambiance, not too noisy but enough chatter to give it a buzzy feel. Excellent wait staff, very pleasant people. Can't wait to come back to see what they do at dinner!
Our waitress was great! She was thoughtful for my fiancé’s birthday, and very helpful with the menu. The hostesses were also very kind and accommodating. The dinner was delicious! We had a feat time.
They made our anniversary incredibly special! Thanks to the whole team.
As usual the food was prepared beautifully and tastefully! Drinks were great.
As usual, St. Anselm continues to be one of my favorites in DC. Service, food, drinks are all on point. Highly recommend!
Service was exceptional! Food & drinks very good. Great place for a get together. Had an excellent NY Sour! I had the pork chop & it was moist & flavorful.
This was an absolutely amazing dinner experience. The food was just incredible. Everything we ordered was beyond what we could have imagined.
The service was equally top notch. Everyone was friendly and helpful! The level of knowledge was also impressive that all those working displayed.
I can’t wait to return
A little loud, but the best steak I've had in years.
Have come for dinner, and am always impressed. Brunch did not disappoint! By far, and I come from a home who makes them regularly, the best biscuits I have had, in a restaurant, in DC. The bacon was amazing, the duck egg in a well and the mushroom omelet full and rich in flavor, iced Irish coffee was worth writing home about, and did I mention the biscuits?
Don’t ask yourself if though should brunch here, just ask yourself when.
Fantastic service, food and value! Can’t wait to go back!
We thought the food and service was terrific. The ambience was sort of cozy and fun. We felt
There was a younger vibe (we are 69) but the area of town is younger. The food was fresh and
Tasty and refreshing from Capital Grill, Morton’s, Palm, etc.; steak houses we are used to.
Our waiter was great as was the manager we met. Professional management, great food, reasonable
Pricing....wish it was closer to where we live (Potomac, Md), but we will return and tell friends about
St. Anselm was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The biscuit app with pimento cheese was to die for. The server recommended cauliflower, which was also very tasty. From service at the bar to the table it was top notch. Well done!
This place is an oasis with inside and outside dining and is extremely popular. The cocktail list is good, the appetizers and starters are excellent, but then...the entrees are extremely limited: a few fish, one chicken, and then skirt steak, hangar steak, and rib eye--not much exciting. Sides are really good and desserts are fun. Come for starters, sides, and dessert.
It was my friend’s birthday. I wrote this down when I made the appointment and asked for a dessert with candles. They didn’t deliver. I snuck away from my guest and asked the hostess (since I couldn’t find my waitress at the time) to have the waitress deliver a dessert with a candle. Waited another 45 minutes and they didn’t deliver. Luckily, in the end, my fiend had to go to the restroom and I was able to speak to the waitress without her seeing. Finally got the treat with a candle. We stayed much longer than we would have because I was desperately trying to find a way to celebrate my friend. Very disappointing. The waitress herself was fantastic.
Excellent food but the rock music was deafening and took away from the meal.
Enjoyed our meal; a good steak but not great and for the price, I’d expect something at least as good as Morton’s. Very good cocktails and nice wine. It was a little noisy but then again, I’m old. Definitely like the ambience, very cool space.
Excellent on all fronts— the attentive service- Elijah made our experience even better-, the food and it’s presentation including the over the top ice cream cake, and the ambiance. We scored one of the private booths since it was our anniversary!!
The vibe is a warm steakhouse with lots of dark woods and taxidermy on the walls, but also american. The service was great, our waitress provided lots of great recommendations including our favorite appetizer the grilled oysters and our favorite main entree the skirt steak. The bar is also excellent, they make some great drinks and the bartenders are fun to talk to.
