St Mary's Inn
The focal point of a new community which is currently being developed, we serve honest-to-goodness food and beer – no tricks, no fuss – with a distinctly Northumbrian flavour.
we all enjoyed our main meal however the deserts were, to be honest, a disappointment.
They were presented beautifully but both the sticky toffee pud and carrot cake weren't nice. Sorry.
Really relaxed atmosphere, brilliant food made even better that you can bring your dog !
Really great place in a quiet area perfect for a family meal or with friends, highly recommend the Sunday lunch was one of the best I have had and I have had a few
Food is excellent but the Decor and atmosphere in the main dining area just doesn’t quite work. Also hated the nylon napkins! That said we create our own atmosphere and can take a paper napkin so I will go again because the food is worth it.
I would have scored everything at 4-5 ⭐️‘S but for a couple of things that spoiled it for us.
Our meal was accidentally served to another couple on a nearby table. It took them a few moments to realise. After a few minutes of them sitting with our meal a waitress returned. They said that they ordered meat and got a vegetarian meal. We then realised they had got ours. The waitress apologised, said ‘I’ll go and warm them up.” She returned a few minutes later with two tepid meals. The sides were then taken and returned - still not hot, after we had almost finished.
No proper apology was offered and there wasn’t anyone to complain to. The young waitress that took our money had been lovely and it hadn’t been her fault so I didn’t want to burden her. She also didn’t get a tip through no fault of her own.
Possibly there were too few staff to cover the demand? I feel I should give the restaurant another opportunity but am a little wary after a spoiled afternoon out.
Excellent food and service. A little loud with the live band but not a problem.
Big breakfast before a day out. Love this place. Will defo be back. Dog friendly too.
Food was excellent and provided good value for money. Thoroughly recommended
Very tasty Sunday lunch, pleasant helpful staff. Quite noisy, as lots of families having lunch which wasn't a problem in itself but the fact that a child directly behind me, was being entertained by a noisy electronic device was rather irritating. I understand that parents want to supply their children with distractions so they can enjoy their meal but why not supply them with headphones too?
Pretty average on the whole.
Fabulous evening with good friends, food excellent will definitely return
Professional, attentive and friendly staff.
Lovely building and surroundings.
The first time we visited, we found the food excellent (party of 6) but the service a little ignorant and slow. Waiting staff as example approaching when having only just placed food in mouth as opposed to leaving it a few moments to check if everything was ok - then not returning until almost meal finished or your straining your neck waving trying to gain their attention. Took almost half way through our meal until drinks we’d ordered arrived...
The second time, we ordered rare beef dinner. It arrived incredibly well done. I mentioned it straight away and more beef eventually arrived which was much better.
If they improved service (I used to wait on and know excellent observation skills is required and timing, you r got to be constantly observing and looking not walking about in a daze, past tables but not at people who may be trying to gain your attention!)
Food is lovely, some meals pretentious and overall priced but on the whole worth a third visit. Just.
A very well presented Sunday lunch. Excellent starters with some different choices. The menu was different to the one presented on the website. There were less main course meat choices. This was ok but should be addressed before the menu in the pub changes.
My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant 'sunday lunch' in nice surroundings. The service was excellent and all the staff very friendly. We will be back for more!
We enjoyed our meal very much, and was great value.
We were a large group easily accommodated.
Great service and food - we had Sunday dinner and it was cooked to perfection. Friendly, attentive staff and fast service. Beautifully decorated building, separate bar and outdoor area. Very impressed and will definitely return.
Venue is pleasant staff friendly food tasty and v nicely cooked and good veg option
Guests were impressed
Section we were in was a bit noisy though last trip was better in different area
Main courses delicious but some complained main meals too big so could not finish n did not like t waste and then no room for desert though no one wanted desert as said all options too sweet it did take long time t get teas n coffees making us rush n no one came t check we were ok with meal
Definitely still going back though as it’s way way ahead of most places thanks all
Recently re-opened establishment after being closed for a while. It has an interesting layout, with bar area plus several dining rooms; all well decorated. Food was pub grub plus and service was efficient and friendly. Would return for future visit.
We booked for Sunday lunch. On the table next to us was a single diner participating in a FaceTime call. Beef, Park and chicken were on the menu, we ordered beef cooked pink. The beef was served with Yorkshire pudding, mashed and roast potatoes, carrot, swede, broccoli and kale. A side order of cauliflower cheese accompanied the plate. The food was very tasty only one criticism was the plate was swimming in gravy. Dessert was equally yummy and overall good value for money.
Sunday lunch was very nice, if somewhat lacking in quantity. Service was a little below par considering the price. Although the meal itself was good, similar quality can be found elsewhere for less cost.
Atmosphere spoiled by a number of small children wandering around in a group busily bossing each other about and creating a bit of a din. Perhaps going after their bedtime would have been a little better.
