St Mary's Inn
The focal point of a new community which is currently being developed, we serve honest-to-goodness food and beer – no tricks, no fuss – with a distinctly Northumbrian flavour.
We decided to have lunch in the bar area. Spacious seating, great service from the friendly staff. Food is to die for.
Generous portions cooked to perfection and well presented. Our second visit in just 3 weeks and we'll definitely be returning! 🙂
Visited for Sunday lunch with 2 friends, one of which had a baby. The staff were extremely attentive and offered a high chair when we arrived. We were offered drinks regularly and checked up on by staff. The Sunday dinner was amazing and I will definitley be coming back on a Sunday. I had visited before but not for a Sunday dinner, can’t fault it and good value for money! Will definitley be back :)
Lovely meal, we did get put in a table that help 4 but we were 5 so just asked to move and was fine
Love the option of half portions for Sunday lunch. The best thing for me is the dog friendly environment. Location is great prices are great the staff could be happier love it
A beautiful venue. Lovely log fires. Love the ornaments. Pleasant attentive staff. Gorgeous tasty food well, presented. My spaniel was made welcome and enjoyed a sleep on the carpet. Thank you all.
Sadly, our evening was neither enjoyable nor tasty at this restaurant. If you plan to eat here, make sure to check ahead whether or not there will be live music in the bar area as if there will be, it renders your dinner conversation impossible. We were not told of the possibility of this singing when seated. We like live music, but this was over the top and too early in the evening. Waiter didn't seem to react or do anything about it.
As to our dinner, burger was so well-done it resembled a hockey puck, so much so that it should be removed from the menu if it can't be served at least medium. Pea soup was acceptable. Newly added butternut squash risotto with buerre blanc and sage should be practiced a bit more. Squash on top was undercooked and risotto soggy accompanied by way too much butter.... Overall not a good experience.
I took my wife and elderly mother for Sunday lunch. The table was in a quiet area where we could chat and here Ourselves think ! The service was very good and the food was beautiful. All in all very good and the bill including drinks a mere £70.00 for three.
Food was very good.
Disappointed with seating arrangements, had requested, on booking, standard seating but was given bar area, where we sat on our own for 45 minutes before anyone joined us. We were told it had been very busy that day and preference is given to larger parties in the other area.
Probably would go again but not necessarily on a Sunday.
The food was all delicious especially the starters and the trout. I had roast beef served pink which was a bit stringy and chewy. Accompaniments were lovely.
It was disappointing to have booked and then be stuck at a small table in the corner.
Staff were really friendly, good range of drinks (gin!) available, tasty food. Can't think of any negatives! We really enjoyed our evening. Would def come again.
Lovely cosy pub, which is beautifully decorated. The service was great and the staff very friendly. The Sunday lunch was average, we did enjoy it, but we’ve had better elsewhere and at a lower cost. Overall however we had a pleasant experience.
Lovely place albeit a little out of the way . Sunday lunch and dessert tasty but not exceptional although we did eat the lot..will definitely return. Staff are friendly and welcoming.
Food fabulous. Only niggle - my wife and I (both women) arrived at table before our friends and were asked by the staff member "are we waiting for two gentlemen to join you?" in this year thus level of heterocentric assumption is very disappointing
Friendly staff, comfortable environment, good food. What more does a person need!
Overall it was a nice meal and waiting staff were pleasant.
It was quiet when we arrived and I think the music was mainly in the bar area so we felt like we had to talk really quietly to not disturb the table next to us which seemed quiet close.
We've been here a few times and it's always been nice. Can't really fault it. It's a nice restaurant and the food was nice but not outstanding. I think it's more somewhere to go again for lunch rather than a special evening meal.
It’s a lovely place and the staff are always friendly but the choice of vegetarian food is appalling....either Thai green curry (which is amazing) or a veggie burger, which was as dry as sticks and flavourless. They don’t seem to change the menu very often, which is a shame.
It is dog friendly which is a real bonus.
They often have good live bands on.
Really nice food and atmosphere, would highly recommend this restaurant
Inn with rooms, dog friendly, great selection of drinks.
Rooms are large and airy, very quiet and well decorated, bathrooms are large and well equipped
Stayed on the run up to Christmas, great atmosphere and a pleasure to return to
Love it, food is delicious, served by friendly and efficient staff!
Great hospitality, super food, wonderful service.
Fabulous Sunday lunch. All 5 of our plates completely cleared, best lunch we’ve had out for quiet some time.
Food was a little disappointing - heard good things but had better for less money. Staff all very professional but considering it wasn’t busy I expected more.
Would go again as it’s a terrific building with great staff and a good reputation - let us see if this was a one off 🤞
Absolutely lovely. Staff quiet and unobtrusive but soo helpful. Food glorious and setti g to match. Worth the drive out😊
Simple, elegant and great service for good value. The half size roast dinners really worked well for some members of our group.
A warm welcome and great service
Food was slow to arrive but worth the wait and absolutely delicious. Lunch from their a la carte menu was a little pricey.
Horrendous experience on New Year’s Eve. Having been previous and we were not impressed as food order was incorrect we thought we would try again and see if there was any improvement on the service. This time we book for 2.45 to have an early meal before celebrating that evening and we were horrified with what happened. Our greeting on arrival was ok, nice gentleman greeted us and saw us to our table. Drinks ordered and arrived promptly. We ordered our food and this is when it started to go downhill. Our starters of tapas arrived and my Father hadn’t even finished his before the waitress came to start clearing the table! Once my Father had finished the mains arrived straight away (we had only been sat at the table about 30mins at this point). While we were trying to enjoy our food the waiting staff started to clear all the furniture out of the room we were sitting in nothing said to us in advance that this would happen. No one came to us to ask if it was ok or explain why this was happening. Out of a room with 6 tables we were left with just us and no furniture, all of this going on around us while we were trying to eat. We did mention this when the staff came to clear our plates but only and apology was offered. It was such an unpleasant experience being left in an empty room. We know they had to get ready for the evening ahead but they could have waited until we had finished our meal.
In the end and after complaining to several members of staff one who appeared to be the manager, he did not introduce himself and being over charged for our meal, we still had no offer of any compensation at all. We will not be returning to this establishment and will definitely not be recommending to friends or family.
Good quality restaurant in quiet surroundings. Good value for money would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a quiet meal experience.
First time having Sunday lunch here. We both had a half beef dinner which was amazing really good value for money the portion size was fabulous, the lady that served us was wonderful and it’s always a pleasure to see dog friendly pubs.
Really nice meal and excellent service. We gave been here a few times and it has never let us down.
Second time we’ve eaten here as a family and can’t fault it. One of the best gastro pub meals ever! Friendly staff in a beautiful pub with excellent chefs. We were staying at the hotel as well and quality of food was same high standard all week. Totally recommend restaurant, beers and rooms. Properly dog friendly too.
Had variable food quality over several visits over the years. But this was fab. Every plate was delicious and cleared. Really enjoyed. Congratulations to the chef. Wine list varied and fairly priced
Lovely family Sunday dinner, great roasts with all the trimmings and some beautiful starters (terrine and mackerel starters recommended).
So cosy. Much better prices also menu choice good.
Great food & friendly staff. Always worth visiting for Sunday lunch
Food was great service excellent. It was freezing outside so the open fires were very welcoming and warmed us up in no time. We went on a Monday lunch time at start of December and custom was steady but not crazy busy which was perfect for catching up with a friend ... the lunchtime set menu was reasonably priced the soup delicious and a nice Turkey crown lunch for our mains. Staff attentive but not intrusive so would definitely recommend
Lovely food & great friendly service. We shall be regular from now.
Had a mackerel pate starter which I enjoyed very much, tasty and light, and then a Sunday roast, shoulder of pork with all the trimmings; it was excellent, tender meat and a variety of delicious veggies. We were well looked after by attentive and friendly staff. Will return.
Fantastic food, love venue special place. Can't recommend enough.
The service is excellent and the food is delicious. Great range of choice for vegetarians
Perfect Sunday lunch. Due to an op my husband can only eat a small portion. No problem at all. St Mary’s do half portion Sunday roasts. The beef was melt in your mouth (I have to confess I like it very well done), the veg selection was great, especially the parsnips and the kale. I’d had mackerel pate, with orange (so fresh!) as a starter and even managed a Bailey’s creme brûlée for pud! And you definitely knew the Baileys was there. The lady who served us was absolutely lovely. Ambience was great. Dogs allowed too.
