St Mary's Inn
The focal point of a new community which is currently being developed, we serve honest-to-goodness food and beer – no tricks, no fuss – with a distinctly Northumbrian flavour.
Absolutely lovely. Staff quiet and unobtrusive but soo helpful. Food glorious and setti g to match. Worth the drive out😊
Simple, elegant and great service for good value. The half size roast dinners really worked well for some members of our group.
A warm welcome and great service
Food was slow to arrive but worth the wait and absolutely delicious. Lunch from their a la carte menu was a little pricey.
Horrendous experience on New Year’s Eve. Having been previous and we were not impressed as food order was incorrect we thought we would try again and see if there was any improvement on the service. This time we book for 2.45 to have an early meal before celebrating that evening and we were horrified with what happened. Our greeting on arrival was ok, nice gentleman greeted us and saw us to our table. Drinks ordered and arrived promptly. We ordered our food and this is when it started to go downhill. Our starters of tapas arrived and my Father hadn’t even finished his before the waitress came to start clearing the table! Once my Father had finished the mains arrived straight away (we had only been sat at the table about 30mins at this point). While we were trying to enjoy our food the waiting staff started to clear all the furniture out of the room we were sitting in nothing said to us in advance that this would happen. No one came to us to ask if it was ok or explain why this was happening. Out of a room with 6 tables we were left with just us and no furniture, all of this going on around us while we were trying to eat. We did mention this when the staff came to clear our plates but only and apology was offered. It was such an unpleasant experience being left in an empty room. We know they had to get ready for the evening ahead but they could have waited until we had finished our meal.
In the end and after complaining to several members of staff one who appeared to be the manager, he did not introduce himself and being over charged for our meal, we still had no offer of any compensation at all. We will not be returning to this establishment and will definitely not be recommending to friends or family.
Good quality restaurant in quiet surroundings. Good value for money would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a quiet meal experience.
First time having Sunday lunch here. We both had a half beef dinner which was amazing really good value for money the portion size was fabulous, the lady that served us was wonderful and it’s always a pleasure to see dog friendly pubs.
Really nice meal and excellent service. We gave been here a few times and it has never let us down.
Second time we’ve eaten here as a family and can’t fault it. One of the best gastro pub meals ever! Friendly staff in a beautiful pub with excellent chefs. We were staying at the hotel as well and quality of food was same high standard all week. Totally recommend restaurant, beers and rooms. Properly dog friendly too.
Had variable food quality over several visits over the years. But this was fab. Every plate was delicious and cleared. Really enjoyed. Congratulations to the chef. Wine list varied and fairly priced
Lovely family Sunday dinner, great roasts with all the trimmings and some beautiful starters (terrine and mackerel starters recommended).
So cosy. Much better prices also menu choice good.
Great food & friendly staff. Always worth visiting for Sunday lunch
Food was great service excellent. It was freezing outside so the open fires were very welcoming and warmed us up in no time. We went on a Monday lunch time at start of December and custom was steady but not crazy busy which was perfect for catching up with a friend ... the lunchtime set menu was reasonably priced the soup delicious and a nice Turkey crown lunch for our mains. Staff attentive but not intrusive so would definitely recommend
Lovely food & great friendly service. We shall be regular from now.
Had a mackerel pate starter which I enjoyed very much, tasty and light, and then a Sunday roast, shoulder of pork with all the trimmings; it was excellent, tender meat and a variety of delicious veggies. We were well looked after by attentive and friendly staff. Will return.
Fantastic food, love venue special place. Can't recommend enough.
The service is excellent and the food is delicious. Great range of choice for vegetarians
Perfect Sunday lunch. Due to an op my husband can only eat a small portion. No problem at all. St Mary’s do half portion Sunday roasts. The beef was melt in your mouth (I have to confess I like it very well done), the veg selection was great, especially the parsnips and the kale. I’d had mackerel pate, with orange (so fresh!) as a starter and even managed a Bailey’s creme brûlée for pud! And you definitely knew the Baileys was there. The lady who served us was absolutely lovely. Ambience was great. Dogs allowed too.
I was disappointed with the booking process. We were offered choice of dining locations bar or standard. I didn’t want to sit on a bar stool so chose standard. But there was no information on what the differences were.
Wrong choice! He bar was cosy roaring fire and full of ambience. The standard seating was empty. We were there alone for much of our time.
The Sunday dinner was lovely. But the dreadful caveat as the plates are carried in, in oven gloves ‘Mind the plates are very hot!’ I never want to hear this. Indeed the plates were bordering on dangerously hot. I’d have burned my wrist if I’d accidentally touched it. Restaurants mus remember that diners do not generally wear oven gloves. Warm plates are good. Too hot to handle is a safety risk
Food was excellent, service was good, friendly waiters but not over the top.
Great food in lovely surroundings. Would recommend.
The best Sunday lunch in the area. I would highly recommend and look forward to visiting St Mary’s Inn in the near future.
Relaxing atmosphere, lovely food. Friendly staff and a wide choice on the menu. Will go again.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Gluten free was no problem. Meat cooked perfectly. Could have been a touch hotter. Desserts delicious.
Breakfast the following morning was also very good. Recommended
Sunday lunch was excellent as always. Love the cauliflower cheese that accompanies the meal and one of our party said that the beef was the best she had ever had in a restaurant. Service was really good and nothing is too much trouble. Our favourite place for Sunday lunch.
Went for a birthday celebration meal.
The total experience was marvelous and exceeded our expectations.
Fantastic choice of menu with plenty of choices to suit our individual palette.
Brilliant service from extremely pleasant staff.
We also got chatting to some of the other customers that were so friendly and also enjoying the St Mary’s experience.
See you again.
Nice atmosphere, good service and excellent food with veggie options. Like the choice of being able to get half size Sunday roast!
Simply the BEST Sunday Dinner you can get
Top classsundsy lunch once again, highly recommend for anyone looking for a change and top quality Sunday roast
You can always rely on St Mary’s Inn to provide you with a good standard of food and a warm welcome. Always enjoy our time there.
Delicious food and attentive staff. We were four generations who all found something we liked and were able to converse. There is a quiz going on on a Monday but it’s not intrusive.
Lovely meal with friends on Saturday night, mix of traditional and interesting meals in a relaxed atmosphere.
We asked for a different table and the woman seating us was very rude and not happy at all! Even though there were plenty of empty tables
Love the food and the staff here and come quite regularly . The only downside is that there seems to no adult only area and as it’s very popular with families it can be very noisy. Children aren’t always well supervised by their parents which can spoil other diners experience
Absolutely amazing food. The menu changes to keep us interested. We have tried various starters which have all been so different but very tasty
St Mary's was a lively venue. We were seated next to two families but because of the general noise we were not inconvenienced by them.
must have been the chefs night off, main course arrived before the starters. steak was miniscule and overcooked, having requested rare! the supposed triple cooked chips served with the bacon chop were inedible. i would give 1 place above weatherspoons.
this was the first time in eating out i have ever left chips.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Lovely staff. Only complaint would be the roasties weren't very roasted! Tasted reheated and not crispy. Deserts delicious.
Lovely cosy afternoon spent here as after we finished lunch we just settled down in the bar for a few drinks . Lovely meal and fantastic ambience
I booked St Mary’s Inn for my partners special birthday and we had the most magical of fizz breakfasts. The food was to die for and the service was second to none. We sat for hours chatting in with no pressure to leave and the ambience was super relaxed. We can’t wait to go back for lunch or dinner - highly recommend St Mary’s Inn.
