Great restaurant with a brilliant manager who sorted out what could have been, a disaster
Chose this restaurant for a birthday lunch last week based on excellent trip advisor reviews and I was not disappointed.
Staff were attentive when needed and happy to leave you perusing the menu without pressure and you enjoy your meal.
Food was delicious, with a good selection to choose from. I will have to return as there were too many good dishes I wanted to have!
Lovely meal; good service and atmosphere. We were seated in a dark corner of the restaurant- better lighting would improve the experience but nevertheless an enjoyable visit!
Food and service excellent but it was a quiet midweek evening.
Tried it last Saturday. Lovely restaurant, great food , staff excellent, prices value for what we received. Will definitely go again and will certainly recommend this gem.
Great evening with friend, food was delicious & staff really friendly & attentive. Definitely recommend
We had a table for 7 and all enjoyed it immensely. Great food, good service and great outdoor seating, on a warm evening.
Great service, friendly and attentive. Lovely seating outside on a hot day. Menu appealing and quality of food good. Would recommend.
This was my fourth visit. The food and service has been excellent each time.
I have sat inside in the ground floor twice, and outside twice; both have been good choices. I have yet to try the upstairs.
Four of us visited for a Sunday lunch. The service was excellent and friendly. We had between us roast beef, roast pork, Pasta duck raging & lamb rump. Followed by desserts of cheesecake, parfait & chocolate tarts. All the food was attractive and very tasty. The ambiance is clean, bright & attractive. We will certainly visit again & would recommend.
We go to st villa quite often especially in the summer when it is great to sit out doors.
Unfortunately for this visit we chose the one damp day!
Sunday roast as always was terrific- one of the best in the area! we had the scallop starter and the prawns- both of which were delicious.
When it came to dessert time we were a little full but managed to all share the brownie and the cheesecake. both were lovely but my daughter found the deconstructed cheesecake a little creamy .
Service, as ever, was great and very friendly.
Would always recommend
This was my first visit to St. Villa Bar & Restaurant. It was refreshing not going to a themed restaurant. Good selection for meat, fish and vegetation dishes. Great service and good value. I will be returning.
Food was lovely and menu options are nice and varied. Something for everyone.
The only slight let down was the service. It wasn’t terrible just one too many times looking to order drinks, bill etc possibly not enough waiting staff. It was recommended by a friend and I will definitely return.
Restaurant too hot. Food ok not very exciting - a bit overpriced
First time here. Good service. Portion sizes on the small side. Great atmosphere.
We both ordered the lamb rump, which was delicious and very nicely cooked. in terms of portion size it was totally inadequate. I was brought some extra broccoli, but when paying nearly £20 for a dish asking for more shouldn't be necessary. I will certainly not be going back - there are numerous other restaurants in St Albans that provide superior food and better value for money.
After the recent reviews I wasn't sure how good this place had been since the last time. The waitresses were lovely and the food and ambience was very good. My friend and I had a lovely evening.
TV on in corner on a Saturday night. Very slow service. Food was quite nice when it finally came- took more than 45 minutes for mains to arrive, had to chase kitchen multiple times & 1 meal was cold when it arrived.
Lovely restaurant, good food and nice to have the choice to sit outside.
The only reason I didn’t give top marks was because the service was a bit slow and we waited nearly 30minutes for our drinks when we arrived and we were then given the wrong bill at the end of the night.
However the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent and presented well.
I would definitely recommend the restaurant
Beautifully decorated restaurant. Delcious tasty food, friendly and polite staff. Good size terrace to enjoy your meal.
Lovely meal in a gorgeous setting. Although the restaurant was warm due to the outside temperature we were sat upstairs which was a little warmer than we had hoped. It didn't detract from our evening. Lovely food, good service and will definitely be going back.
Staff were lovely and the food excellent. The live music was great too.
The Sunday roast pork was so tasty and cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef.
Great restaurant, lovely evening , food and atmosphere !! but felt rushed at the end which was a shame, they were keen to close and get rid of us !!
Spoilt our friends get together towards the end!!
We were glad we decided on this restaurant to meet up. I requested for a quiet corner table and we were impressed that this was granted! The fish menu was a so tasty and cooked to near perfection. We were also awe by the desert and still dreaming about them. Thank you for a delight meal!
Food quality good. Service very good. Only problem pasta for two was only warm and served on COLD plates! Same for the sea bass course.
Disappointing. Asked waitress to tell chef after we had paid the bill.
Perfect evening, amazing food and very friendly service - will definitely be returning
Lovely restaurant, beautifully decorated, fab food and excellent service. Will definitely be back!
Amazing food and great service, lovely Modern Chic decor. Everything spot on!
We were group of 5. Two of us had pasta. Food was just warm when served st table. Plates were cold. Another had sea bass again potatoes just warm and plates cold. Disappointing hot food needs hot plates..surely a basic in catering.
Told our waitress after paying the bill so hope she fed it back to someone who would take action.
Lovely restaurant. We keep going back.
We have notices that the prices for starters have been going up (a bit too high now) and the portion size seems a bit small.
It could be that we were unlucky with this visit. The friend I was with found the duck pappardelle ragu main course rather lacking in flavour and by contrast found the chutney with the chef's terrine starter to have an odd tang to it. For myself, the smoked salmon roulade starter seemed to be surprisingly salty, but I did enjoy the corn fed chicken main course. Everything was very well presented and I liked the ambience. So, it could be that we were just a bit unlucky that 3 of the four dishes were not to our taste particularly.
St Villa is a lovely restaurant , tastefully decorated. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful even though we had to change our booking several times! The food is excellent and well presented. Thoroughly recommend a meal here.
Quality food, good portions, professional service. Menu is varied and has good options. Overall a good experience and definitely worth a visit.
Ambience was 4 stars rather than 5 as the staff seemed to have some issues with managing groups having a pre-drink at the bar versus those already seated i.e. they let the bar group get a bit big and close to the tables.
We will definitely be returning. We had a lovely meal and a very pleasant evening.
We had an enjoyable evening; fab environment, good service and excellent food.
Lovely place, excellent staff, the new waitress was exceptional, sadly the main courses were not, i ordered rib eye steak medium rare but it was delivered just under well done, and my partners fish dish was way over seasoned, so sadly i could not recommend the food, also quite expensive.
The set lunch menu is amazing value - delicious food and nice to be able to select from dishes also on the a la Carte menu. Great service too.
Second lunch time visit and once again only two tables occupied. Would presume that the restaurant is busy in the evenings and therefore have a better atmosphere.
Dreadful experience! Didn't have my reservation which wasn't a good start. Smoked salmon roulade with rock salt rendering it inedible. Why on earth would they put rock salt on smoked salmon is beyond me. Main course was sent back as the chicken was overcooked, saute potatoes were burn and same with the fennel. They apologised and said it shouldn't have left the kitchen in that state. They refunded the meal, but i ended up leaving the restaurant hungry. Children running wild on the patio outside and we could hear them screaming in the restaurant - it was dreadful. What has happened to this place? It used to be enjoyable but we won't be returning sadly.
