We both ordered the lamb rump, which was delicious and very nicely cooked. in terms of portion size it was totally inadequate. I was brought some extra broccoli, but when paying nearly £20 for a dish asking for more shouldn't be necessary. I will certainly not be going back - there are numerous other restaurants in St Albans that provide superior food and better value for money.

After the recent reviews I wasn't sure how good this place had been since the last time. The waitresses were lovely and the food and ambience was very good. My friend and I had a lovely evening.

TV on in corner on a Saturday night. Very slow service. Food was quite nice when it finally came- took more than 45 minutes for mains to arrive, had to chase kitchen multiple times & 1 meal was cold when it arrived.

Lovely restaurant, good food and nice to have the choice to sit outside.
The only reason I didn’t give top marks was because the service was a bit slow and we waited nearly 30minutes for our drinks when we arrived and we were then given the wrong bill at the end of the night.
However the staff were very friendly and the food was excellent and presented well.
I would definitely recommend the restaurant

Lovely meal in a gorgeous setting. Although the restaurant was warm due to the outside temperature we were sat upstairs which was a little warmer than we had hoped. It didn't detract from our evening. Lovely food, good service and will definitely be going back.

We were glad we decided on this restaurant to meet up. I requested for a quiet corner table and we were impressed that this was granted! The fish menu was a so tasty and cooked to near perfection. We were also awe by the desert and still dreaming about them. Thank you for a delight meal!

Food quality good. Service very good. Only problem pasta for two was only warm and served on COLD plates! Same for the sea bass course.
Disappointing. Asked waitress to tell chef after we had paid the bill.

We were group of 5. Two of us had pasta. Food was just warm when served st table. Plates were cold. Another had sea bass again potatoes just warm and plates cold. Disappointing hot food needs hot plates..surely a basic in catering.
Told our waitress after paying the bill so hope she fed it back to someone who would take action.

Lovely restaurant. We keep going back.
We have notices that the prices for starters have been going up (a bit too high now) and the portion size seems a bit small.

It could be that we were unlucky with this visit. The friend I was with found the duck pappardelle ragu main course rather lacking in flavour and by contrast found the chutney with the chef's terrine starter to have an odd tang to it. For myself, the smoked salmon roulade starter seemed to be surprisingly salty, but I did enjoy the corn fed chicken main course. Everything was very well presented and I liked the ambience. So, it could be that we were just a bit unlucky that 3 of the four dishes were not to our taste particularly.

St Villa is a lovely restaurant , tastefully decorated. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful even though we had to change our booking several times! The food is excellent and well presented. Thoroughly recommend a meal here.

Quality food, good portions, professional service. Menu is varied and has good options. Overall a good experience and definitely worth a visit.

Ambience was 4 stars rather than 5 as the staff seemed to have some issues with managing groups having a pre-drink at the bar versus those already seated i.e. they let the bar group get a bit big and close to the tables.

Lovely place, excellent staff, the new waitress was exceptional, sadly the main courses were not, i ordered rib eye steak medium rare but it was delivered just under well done, and my partners fish dish was way over seasoned, so sadly i could not recommend the food, also quite expensive.

Second lunch time visit and once again only two tables occupied. Would presume that the restaurant is busy in the evenings and therefore have a better atmosphere.

Dreadful experience! Didn't have my reservation which wasn't a good start. Smoked salmon roulade with rock salt rendering it inedible. Why on earth would they put rock salt on smoked salmon is beyond me. Main course was sent back as the chicken was overcooked, saute potatoes were burn and same with the fennel. They apologised and said it shouldn't have left the kitchen in that state. They refunded the meal, but i ended up leaving the restaurant hungry. Children running wild on the patio outside and we could hear them screaming in the restaurant - it was dreadful. What has happened to this place? It used to be enjoyable but we won't be returning sadly.

We sat out side and were served very well, there were nice clean blankets if you got a bit cold when the sun went down. Food was nice, although the quinoa salad was a bit bland and uninspired for £11. I would have expected something more exciting and flavoursome. Starters served on slate which I dislike. Service and ambiance were very good.

The setting, food and drinks were fantastic! Service is a bit slow so if you’re in a hurry or have a set time this isn’t the right place. Beautiful outdoor dining.., my new favourite place.

Overall a very nice place to eat although it was a bit noisy. My monkfish main was very good and the service was good. The wine list offers a good choice and we enjoyed the Macon Villages and the Rioja Reserva

This was anniversary so was looking for something special and found it here
Everything was fine from the moment we walked in
The restaurant has a modern airy feel, decorated like a ....Villa
Food is top notch
Service was superb with plenty of good advise and knowledge
Table was upstairs - spacious and receives the ambiance from downstairs well without being too noisy
All accompanied with a lovely wine

Unfortunately we have concluded that this just doesn't live up to its appearance. We've been several time to give it a try but no more. Portions are small and fussy, but full of sugar - I'm diabetic so I know when there's a lot of sugar. Wine is OK, but also pricey. Service OK but a bit wooden. Overall too expensive. Just doesn't compare for price, service or ambience with Cote, L'Italiana, Belvedere, Pasta Cibo. We wait to see where Ivy fits when it opens.

The team is friendly and attentive. They didn't make a fuss when I realised I'd ordered a dish topped with something I was allergic to, and quickly prepared another without the topping.
The duck ragu is outstanding and my wife said the seabass was one of the best she'd ever had.
My only criticism is the music. It's absolutely rubbish, cringe-inducing pop (lots of whiny Bruno Mars type stuff) and way too loud.

Dined with a friend. The staff were excellent. Very friendly. Very professional. The food was exceptional and reasonably priced. We had the squid, prawns and sea bass. The cocktails were delicious. An issue arose in relation to my friends main and they dealt with it better than one would expect. She was very happy! I would recommend. So would she. We will return.

Arrived early on a Saturday evening - were shown upstairs to almost empty room. Service quite good but pre dinner drinks quite slow to arrive. Room filled up quite quickly and it became noisy as there is very little to absorb the noise upstairs. Starters were very good. Main courses arrived on cold plates which meant that the very nicely cooked and presented food was only just hot enough. Cherry vine tomatoes were stone cold. We decided not to have desserts and left fairly early.
Overall experience was good rather than very good . Noise and cold plates let the visit down.
