Very good food in pleasant surroundings. Not cheap but worth the extra. T he service was very good but we were the only people there! Handy for the London Palladium if you are looking for a pre-theatre meal.
Very good cook. Tasting Menu was delicious with small portions of their main dishes to try. Everything was perfectly cooked.
I felt starters and mains were above desserts. Place is very pleasant, quiet for a nice talk.
The menu looks great at first glance. Unfortunately over salted throughout. The lighting is stark and the decor not up to the ambition of the menu. Really wanted to like it.
The wife and I had the slightly truncated tasting menu for lunch. Each component was faultless and that included the bread. The service, if not effusive, was efficient and well paced.
We will be back and recommending to friends.
We booked Stem as it was located near to the Palladium where we were seeing a concert. We were absolutely delighted that we chose this restaurant as the food, an amazing tasting menu and the service were fantastic.
We will mist definitely return!
We had a great experience at Stem.
Initially worried about the recent head chef departure, we were absolutely pleased with the high quality of the dishes that came out. Intriguing but not too adventurous flavor combinations, well balanced together.
The service was smooth and friendly and paid attention to details.
Prices were reasonable, especially for the area. We only thought the desserts were overpriced (although they were good desserts)
Brilliant food and service. At the moment the half price tasting menu is at unbelievable value go now!
Stem, still one of my favorite drop in eateries.
One of the best meals I have had in London for a long time!
A terrific restaurant - second time we have been and the chef recognised us even though the last time was about ten months ago. We had the lunchtime tasting menu which was a treat - beautifully balanced and presented dishes which were full of flavour - and classy service too. Book a table - you won’t be disappointed.
Exceptional value for central London. Tasting menu at lunch on a half price offer at £30 plus service was a steal. Lovely food and attentive relaxed service. It takes a while to eat as there are a few courses, so not for you if your in a rush although they did a different lunch menu which was good value too. The food was tasty and well presented. My wife actually said she would have been happy paying £60 so enough said
I used to like this restaurant. Or anymore. I can no longer it!
Stem serves exceptional food in a quiet but central restaurant. Creative menu and great value for money with exceptional service
It was our daughters birthday we met as a family . Lovely evening
The food here is to die for. If you've eaten at Anglo or Neo and enjoyed the excellent food there, you will love it here. Delicious, rich high end food with excellent friendly service. With the half price tasting menu offer this is the best deal in Soho at the moment.
Great food and lovely atmosphere. The staff where very friendly and attentive. We will be going back.
I chose this restaurant based on location. It was very empty so the atmosphere was a little flat. Service attentive if slightly lacking in polish. Food quite fussy - small portions - and lots of the menu was effectively add ons at additional charges - a way of keeping the advertised headline lunch price down but quite frustrating. The tasting menu is pushed but we were told it required 2 hours to get through so that’s just too long for a business lunch.
Stem is a tidy room, albeit a little cramped. Music was tasteful and not too loud. The value of the food was very good, although I generally prefer to find at least one dish made from a 'headline' protein - lamb, beef, port, even duck. Instead we got pigeon, which was well cooked. Service was very good. We had the tasting menu, and I'd be interested in going again and eating a la carte too. Overall, well worth a visit but not in the very top rank in London.
Hidden gem in Mayfair. Quiet, creative food and reasonably priced. The lemon foam and basil a palate cleanser was divine. One of my favourite restaurants in London
We dined with old friends from
Medical School. Small very well located restaurant near Oxford Circus. We had the three course menu which was tasty, well cooked and presented and good value. You will
need to order vegetables as an extra. Attentive charming service. Reasonably quiet space which would be improved by hanging sound-absorbing rugs on the walls. We will go again
Great restaurant just off Oxford Circus tube station.
Fantastic menu, quality of food, exciting wine pairing and great service.
Would recommend for private and business meal.
We always go for the tasting menu with the wine pairing- fantastic value with interesting food with innovative pairings including a beer. Intelligent ,knowledge service a real treat
Had a mallard dish and found a shotgun pellet inside the meat. A proof that they used real wild duck!
Quiet as 29th December but still a nice atmosphere. Great food
Good and quality food. Nice Italian options and decent prices
Delicious food. Wonderful, warm and attentive service.
Decent food, happened to be empty and quiet when we went
Stem was a delight. We had gone there after reading Jay Rayner's very positive review and it lived up to our expectations. Excellent food, very friendly staff and outstanding value for money. We couldn't quite believe the bill when it arrived. We had a three course meal for two, with a couple of amuse-bouches, two glasses of sparking wine, a bottle of red wine and one coffee and all for about £120, including service. The wine list offers a good number of reasonably priced wines, so that you don't have to feel embarrassed choosing a wine at under £30, as there are several to choose from. The cooking is exceptional, beautifully presented and creative dishes. We had venison and mallard as our main dishes and both were a pleasure to the eye as well as to eat.
Excellent from start to finish - highly recommended
We booked for our Christmas meal at 3pm. When we got there we found out that Stem stopped serving between 3 and 6pm. They were very accommodating but we felt that everyone was waiting to go home and we were being rushed.
The menu was very much nouvelle cuisine with all of us feeling that the portions were very small for the cost of the meal. We all had to feel sated by eating the very nice sourdough bread. Nice experience but far too pretentious.
Set lunch for 5 people perfect. All enjoyed light balanced dishes and great value too.
First visit but thoroughly enjoyed it - good food and very good service
too expensive, bad price - value ratio. Interesting tasting menu
The food was brilliant and beautifully presented. We visited early so it was really quiet, such a shame. The staff are lovely too. My one issue was that the wine list started at £60. It tips the bill into special occasion territory so I'm not sure i would be back for a catch-up with a friend dinner like this was.
Good Afternoon Many thanks for your comments, our wine list actually starts at £22. I'm sorry this wasn't evident on your visit. Best Stem Team
1st Experience of Stem and it didn’t disappoint. Loved the overall approach. Sam the team have a real winner here. This is a hidden gem and after only 6 months, it’s getting a great reputation. In another 6 months it will probably take you that long to get a reservation.
Enjoyed tonight - a lot!
The food was outstanding, as was the service. Vegetables are pickled on site and a wonderful sourdough bread is baked. The dishes are inventive and balanced.
My first visit, really impressed with quality and service.
We had the tasting menu and absolutely loved it! They swapped a meat dish out for me with no trouble at all. The food is creative, innovative and tasty. Will definitely return.
I was very much looking forward to dining at Stem after having been to their other restaurant Neo Bistro which I can recommend highly. Stem was a complete contrast to Neo, whilst Neo the staff were very friendly and eager to please, I didn't have the same experience at Stem. On arriving I ordered a vodka an soda and asked for fresh limes, my drink arrived with no limes, I was informed there were no lemons or limes in the entire restaurant, which I found quite odd. I didn't find the service overly attentive and had to get wait staff attention quite a lot, on confirmation I informed the restaurant it was my girlfriends birthday and if we could have a small dessert for her at the end of the meal, I was told a dessert plate would be organised no problems. Well this never materialised or was mentioned, it all ended up being a bit hard so I didn't worry about it. The food I ordered was lovely though, was a shame the service and attention to detail was a let down.
The service and food were brilliant. My friend and I went this Saturday lunch time. It’s a very small restaurant but that adds to the charm and ambience. Our booking was at 1pm and we were the only ones there at first - usually never a good sign - but we need not have worried for a second. We went for the tasting menu adding a couple of supplemental extras (shaved truffle on the soup and the cod ). The food was totally delicious. I personally loved the white onion soup and the squid especially but all the dishes were amazing. The service was friendly and warm - again with it being a small restaurant it added to that feeling of being well looked after. I’d definitely go back with my husband.
