Have gone for brunch and dinner. Great local spot that offers a twist on seafood! Bar is lovely to just pop in a grab a snack or enjoy a whole lobster!
It was great!
Very good clam pasta to try.
My friend and I celebrated our birthdays together. We had a lovely time. Our waiter, Carlos was a gem. Made us very comfortable and gave us suggestions when we ordered to be accommodate us. Food was excellent. We will be back
Let’s put it this way the fire alarms went off and we all had to evacuate for little over ten mins and the owner didn’t even come around and apologize to anyone.. Very over priced especially there drinks.. Wasn’t impressed at all!
We had an outstanding experience. The person in charge of Oysters was great. Customized my wifes order to what she wanted. Will be back soon
Had to wait 45 mins past our reservation time to finally be seated. They sat us next to overly loud musician that was playing and couldn’t even talk to people at the table. Food took forever to come out, waitress had to keep coming to apologize.
Sail in for fun. This noisy, bustling restaurant has a casual ,eclectic menu sure to please everyone. Food very decent from well sauced thin crust Pizza, to tasty fried green tomatoes (which could’ve use much more shrimp in the “shrimp remoulade” topping) , to very decent desserts. Nice cold, yummy cocktails which thankfully come out quickly . I love a thin wine glass but these are so thin that I cracked one as I accidentally tapped it with my water glass. Much thanks to the staff who immediately replaced it and with a new wine pour at no charge. Service like that goes a long way with me! It’s a casual environment but with great lighting and music which gives it a much sexier vibe. My only complaint really is the noise. It can be excruciating
A few mishaps with my order but when they got it right, it was delish. Ambience is lovely.
Great meal and great service. The restaurant has an awesome vibe, the menu is fresh, and the service is friendly but professional.
Awful. You take almost an hour to make scrambled eggs AND they are awful to boot how can I trust you to make a 35 dollar entree.
Terrible experience. Will never go back and will make sure anyone I know doesn’t go either
Only bright spot is they had the common sense to rip up the bill
You can't beat the food and service at Stern and Bow. The food is delicious and there is something for everyone on the menu. If you love oysters, the selection and preparation of the oysters is second to none. You may even get lucky and find a pearl! Can't wait to go back!
The Vibe at Stern & Bow is fantastic. The drinks were excellent and the Oysters are fantastic. We did not try the pizza but will next time. Our other two apps (The Calamari and the Artichokes) were on point and delicious. I did not fully enjoy my entree, the Prawns. While the prawns themselves were gigantic and cooked perfectly, they came in a relatively bland broth which was disappointing. I would have expected something spicier and more vibrant when it comes to prawns. My two co-diners had the Snapper and a special I do not recall and both said they were excellent. We ordered the Shashito Peppers, which were good but not nearly blistered enough. Some were close to uncooked. The waiter was knowledgeable, patient and the service overall was very good. When we left at 8:00 both bars were packed and buzzing. I would recommend Stern & Bow and look forward to my next visit.
Great food and staff. Unique oyster bar with many different varieties from across the globe. Kevin, the oyster guru, provided the background on each as well as the appropriate garnish (mezcal, lime, and jalapeno on the oyster from Mexico!). This place is a must try in Closter!!
The food was overpriced for the quality. The short ribs with pasta were very oily. The pizza was just okay. We were looking forward to trying this restaurant, but probably won’t go back.
Love Stern & Bow! One suggestion..... when you have a live band please have them turn down the music level a little. As a group we just couldn’t hear each other.
Everything was outstanding!
Excellent food. Great service.
Excellent new restaurant. Food is great, prices fair, service, excellent, and the place ed is beautiful.
we were sat by the bar where the entertainment started about 1/2 hour later. it was great, but we should have been informed, as we could not hear each other. next time i would ask to sit in the other room and move to bar when we were finished with our meal. Pizza is wonderful, the rest of the food, very eh. i ordered a burger median rare, it came out like shoe leather.
Deliciously fresh seafood. A plethora of fresh oysters to choose from. Nice atmosphere and service. Recommended!
Decided to try this restaurant since is closed to our home.
The restaurant decor is superb, nice ambience.
We order mostly from the menu of the day. I ordered the razor clams in white wine, garlic and parsley. This was a mediocre dish, I had to add salt to it. My husband order the fava bean with chicory, again tasteless. For our entree I order the Hanger steak which actually had good flavor but extremely chewy. My husband ordered the special of Halibut cooked in parchment, again completely tasteless. We decided to order dessert for the two of us. Got the Bread pudding with caramel sauce, this was very good. For the amount of money that we spend for the two of us it wasn’t worth it. For what we pay they should have white tablecloth. My husband and I go out to dinner every weekend and enjoy trying new restaurants but this one we won’t be going back for dinner. We will go back to try their pizza.
We were very excited to try this place after all the write ups but unfortunately, it wasn't for us. We were a table of 6 and while we had a round table, which we like for conversation, you couldn't hear each other it was so loud. There is nothing to muffle any sound so all of the conversations around you, the dishes, etc. make for a very loud dinner which is anything but relaxing in our opinion and hardly conducive to catching up with old friends. To top it off, for some reason they have a ceiling mounted projector and project movies on a wall (without sound thank goodness) and this huge display was on the wall by our table. So between the light and dark changes of the movies and people staring at it, it was weird. We asked if it could be turned off but were told no. Strange vibe. Had heard the oysters were great so were going to order but they are priced individually and at between $3.50 and $4.50 per oyster, are way too pricey to even get a 1/2 dozen. Prices are high. Fish was good and the dessert as well but wouldn't spend my money coming back here. The bar looked hopping and I think maybe that's the vibe they are seeking to have throughout. Not my idea of a relaxing dinner.
Always a great time at Stern & Bow. Invited co-workers for drinks and dinner and we had a great time.
The black squid ink pasta with crab was OUTSTANDING!!!!! I have eaten here many times and am continued to be WOWED!!!
I had high expectations for this restaurant that had excellent reviews and was recommended by friends. I was distracted by the full-screen movies projected on the wall. I thought I was supposed to be engaged in conversation with the person I was dining with, not watching a movie without sound. My husband's red snapper had bones in every bite, not as it was described. Our waiter was not very helpful and did not make any effort to make us feel welcome or show any enthusiasm for dining there. At these prices, I expect more. There are plenty of other restaurants that do it better.
You do not get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression!
We read about the restaurant at a local magazine so we decided to give it a try. The oysters were fresh and tasty. The crab Caesar salad was great and the fact that they don’t skimp on the ingredients was a plus! The squid ink linguini with crab meat was ok. It was a little bland for our taste. As far as the ambience, we felt that the restaurant for fine dining was a bit noisy. Also, we wanted to take our time and enjoy our evening, but with the waiter taking away our dishes as soon as we were finished then brought our next dish right away, we felt rushed unfortunately. The tables were pretty closed together with no table covers. We would consider the place for lunch since we really enjoyed my appetizer and salad.
Our waiter. I think his name was John, the noise level was insane. Very difficult to hear! Was amazing, he was attentive, friendly, knew the menu well, but did not feel like he was over bearing as some waiters can be. The food was delicious, a little on the small side, but not terrible. Noise level was over the top, a tad to dark to read the menu, especially if ur over 40. Lol I would definitely come back, and hope we would get the same waiter! The best!!
Excellent service from the minute we walked in. Order was taken promptly and food was served without rush. We had table smoked oysters (a special treat) and wedge salad with deliciously smoked slab bacon to start. Chicken special and whole snapper (backbone magically removed) were both awesome. Beignet Bread Pudding was a great ending.
Poor service .Went for Valentines dinner disappointed with entree choices. Waited a long time between appetizer and meal. Waiter was not helpful and we had to ask for bread, side salad then a 20% gratuity was charged but certainly not earned. Noise level was high
Another reservation at Stern & Bow & ANOTHER great time!! This place NEVER fails us. We’ve now become weekly patrons to this great restaurant. ALWAYS warmly greeted at the door by John , or by owner Russell himself. Once inside you just feel the excitement and the cool vibe that this place exudes! Friendly servers like Michael & Steven are always warm and attentive. TERRIFIC bartenders like Collin,Colin & Roscoe already know my drink as well as my love’s!! Great feeling to have such friendly & knowledgeable bartenders!
Love the fact that Russ has now added music to the calendar. Such a cool place to have dinner or to just chill to some good music.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!
This is a nice local retaurant. The space is very open and clean. We sat at a table by the pizza bar. We expected it to be noisy but there were many empty tables so it was pretty quiet. The service was good. The calamari appetizer was nice and spicy but too chewy for my taste. The shrimp and polenta was excellent - huge shrimp, nice flavors. But the squid ink pasta was just boring. It was described as having crab meat, but you would need a microscope to find it. All in all we had a nice night and good food, but i we wouldn't rush back.
Servers were not attentive and messed up our order. Food and drinks were overpriced for what it was.
The pizza was awesome! So crowded, the owner bought us a drink for leaving our table. Thank you!
Great experience. We loved the servoce, food, ambiance... Everything was amazing.
The food was very, very good! And the oysters were outstanding!
NYC vibe restaurant nestled in North Jersey! food was amazing and the Oyster selection was large.
