Stir Restaurant at Clayton Cardiff Lane
My wife and I booked a table the week before we arrived at the hotel to ensure that we were on time for our show in the venue across the road.
We were greeted by a waiter who queried our booking and who showed us to a table in an empty restaurant. The service was erratic and poor.
We had to go searching for each course and for drinks.
Really spoilt our night.
To compound our discomfort we ordered a taxi for 8.30 the following morning which arrived 30 minutes late and we almost missed our connection.
The staff were really unfriendly and unprofessional at the desk.
We booked a pre-theatre dinner and arrived at 5.15pm so as not to suffer from anxiety should the service be slow (as I had read it was in some reviews). What a good job we did; I've never ever been in a restaurant where the service was so farcically slow. It took them nearly two hours to serve a two course meal. I could have understood it if the restaurant was busy, but it was practically empty - there were almost as many servers as there were diners. It's a shame because the food itself is good as is the service - when it actually happens! I can understand why the place was empty.
Food was just ok ,service was dreadful.we were there at 5.30 for a pre theatre meal .the restaurant was not busy at all ,just 3 tables full but the bar was busy with people eating .most of the staff were busy with this .there was a very long delay with our main course ,we then ordered dessert & coffees . The coffees came first ,which I felt was wrong ,we then had to wait at least a half an hour before our dessert finally came . The waiter came over to us & apologised about 4 times . We only had time to eat a small amount of our food ,as we had to go to our show .the waiter didn't charge us for our desserts or coffees .won't be returning or recommending this restaurant.very disappointing
We had booked the table for 17.45hrs because we were attending the show at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre however we only managed to have our mains as the delay with service of our dessert and Tea was protracted (over 35 minutes) which resulted with us having to leave at 1915hrs in order to catch the show so we had to leave without said dessert and Tea which was most disappointing.
We were a group of 6 who had arranged to see a show at 7.30 and have meal beforehand. We booked table for 5.45pm and arrived promptly only to be told the restaurant wasn't open but we could sit in the mezzanine and order from same menu there. The staff member was very apologetic & offered to place two small tables together to accommodate 6 people. He was apologetic but we found it difficult to contain our disappointment. We ordered our food shortly afterwards and we offered a complimentary bottle of House wine. Our food arrived at 6.45 almost an hour after sitting so we hadn't time to have desert, tea/coffee. The food was ok. As we were leaving a large tour group arrived and were taken into the restaurant to be seated which further annoyed me as we had been told the restaurant was closed!
Yes I would recommend this stir as the food was nice and the staff were pleasant.
However, service was very slow, both for food and drinks. Large groups appear to be forgotten about as often put at the back of the restaurant and feel somewhat forgotten about at times.
Stir Restaurant has a really great pre-theatre menu! Very convenient as it's just across the road.
Service was very poor, had table booked for 6pm, arrived 5.55pm, complained at 7pm as still no food served, we weren't the only ones everyone was complaining. They knew everyone that was there for pre theatre dinner had to be at show for 7.30 but didn't seem to care.
Definitely will not be back.
When we arrived at the restaurant, it was closed.

Perfect location for the Bird Gais Theatre, very friendly and helpful staff, food was really fresh and tasty.
We reserved our table at Stir purposely at the end of our stay in Dublin at the Clayton Cardiff Lane- what a perfect end to a wonderful vacation. The menu was perfect for us and the food was presented beautifully with ideal portions- the wines were delicious and the service was delightful. A shout out to Nigel, who took exceptional genuine care to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. I love how the team at Stir (and Vertigo) work together to care for all the patrons. The restaurant is elegantly decorated, bright, spacious, private, and cheerful. I would return to the hotel and dining there in a heartbeat. Thank you to the entire dining staff! 5 stars!!!

I completed a comment card outlining the issues giving my email address so I would have expected an email as a matter of courtesy. Side order of vegetables didn’t arrive with meal - had to remind two members of staff about them. Meal was almost finished by time they arrived. Ordered 3 teas and coffees and a jug with enough milk for only one coffee was brought. Asked three different staff for more milk - I’d have milked a cow in the time it took to get it. My tea was strong and luke warm by time it arrived. Having complained and advised staff that we wouldn’t be leaving a tip we were asked if we’d like some dessert - I presume this was going to be free - though that wasn’t clear, but as it was now 7pm and we were going to a 7.30 show we declined - given how slow it had been to get the vegetable order and milk. The restaurant was not busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff so there really was no excuse for the poor service.
The staff were very friendly there was not a lot of food on the plate and there wasn't much of a taste sorry we wont be returning to the restaurant and I wont be recommending it to my friends didn't think it was good value for the money .

Nice attentive service during the meal. Food was excellent , fresh and hot as it should be. We both were surprised at the quality of the food given that hotel food generally has a poor reputation. We would highly recommend the Stir Restaurant to fellow diners who want quality, freshness and good service. Well done and keep up the good work!!
The perfect pre-theatre experience. Choice not massive but a good enough range for all but the most fussy diner.
We were very disappointed with our experience. It was obvious from the start that the staff were under pressure. The girl on reception was also serving food and clearing tables so we waited 10 mins to be seated our booking was for 6pm and we arrived at 6.55. Our starters arrived promptly and were nice though the soup could have been much hotter. However we were then waiting 50 mins for our mains and had to ask 3 times. We were heading to the Bord Gais for a 7.30 show. Our main course arrived at 7.05. Two of the party ordered leg of lamb which had very little meat and mostly fat. The vegetables were cold. We had to cancel our deserts and didn’t have time for tea and coffee. This was very disappointing as it was a special night out for my mum. Overall we were very unhappy. There appeared to very few staff serving. The manager was apologetic and took my number and name. However I have yet to receive a call.
Four of us dined here prior to attending the theatre. Very nice food, staff very pleasant but a little slow to notice we were waiting for next course! Also slow to accept payment at the end. However would defiinitely go back there for food again.
The service at the restaurant was not as fast as we would have liked. Although staff were lovely, there was no rush to be serving customers in a timely manner, and a couple behind us (who got the same mains as myself) who sere seated after us received their food first.
Food however was lovely.
The 5 euro voucher from the hotel room was not deducted from our bill when we handed it in while paying, unfortunately we didn't notice until after
Advertised a free Prosecco in toilets if you said Bubbles. Too late for us. Limited menu quite expensive. Drink also expensive and drink prices not advertised.
The restaurant it self is lovely and the staff were very courteous and friendly but service was extremely slow. We were booked in for a preshow dinner for 5.30pm and ended up being late for the show. There was too much time between courses and although there seemed to be 3 or 4 staff only 1 girl seemed to be serving. The menu is very basic and limited, we could not understand how it took so long for our food to be served especially desert which you imagine is pre prepared but took 20 minutes to come out. Such a pity as it is a lovely hotel and an ideal location. Would not go back.

when we arrived we were seated in the general area - as the Restaurant itself was
closed. However, we were served from the Restaurant Menu and were very satisfied with
the food. The staff were friendly and the quiet space was good to catch up with visitors
Enjoyed my pretheatre dinner here but disappointed with the very limited menu. I understand a set menu is necessary when catering for pretheatre dinners but found it very limited. However, food chosen was very tasty & served quickly. White wine could have been colder although was served with an ice bucket so latter half of the bottle was much colder & quite delicious. Service was excellent very warm & friendly staff .
Very disappointed with the slow service on Sunday evening. The restaurant was only half full but waited too long for dinner. We booked this as a Pre-theatre menu so they knew we had to be out before 7. 30. Did not have time for desert so they are actually losing money by not speeding up the service. However the food was good and worth the money.
Staff pleasant but inefficient. Waiting too long for courses. Had pre theatre menu, limited choice but should have been much tastier as only three options to prepare. Hake dish wasn't edible. Chicken dish ok. Very disappointing as had wonderful trip to matinee performance of Les Mis. Overpriced for what was served. Nice surroundings.
Food was lukewarm & desserts tiny, bite size, overpriced at €28
veg was frozen veg that can be bought in Tesco it was also over cooked the broccoli was barely still green. The rest of the food was ok but bland not worth the Money they charged . Waiting staff were very plesent and friendly only mark down was after dinner we ordered a glass of wine and coffee to go with dessert but they had forgotten to bring them so we had to ask again. Over all it's ok if you want something easy before you see a a show in the theater but I could have definitely made something more tasty at home.
The most awful dining expieriences ever. what should of been a wonderful mother/daughter time was ruined by the awful expierience we had here. we waited 40 minutes from seating to starter. Then gave ourselves indigestion as when mains did arrive we had to rush to make show. we arrived at 5.30 and left at 7.10 we only had starter of which was soup and pate ( not alot of cooking) and main steak ( again not alot of cooking) our drinks order arrived as we asked for bill.. The worse place i have ever ate. service was atrocious and the food not much better. chips that were like crisps, overcooked soggy veg and a steak that was mostly fat. what should of been a memorable night is now for the wrong reasons.

Very poor service along with poor food and not even a seat in the restaurant proper combined to deliver a “less than optimum” experience.
Restaurant was the breakfast room, cafeteria setting. The table we booked, online, the restaurant didn't have a record of. The menu was fine but the food was awful. It had not been seasoned, had no taste, was very over cooked and sauce was of a water consistency. There was no atmosphere or ambience. Really disappointing. Staff were pleasant and on complaint we were advised we would not have to pay for our dinner
Really disappointed booked for 530 . When we arrived at 520 the person who came to us and looked around and said there were no seats and he told us to stand . Eventually another fellow seated us into another part of restaurant to keep it short it took 1 and 3/4 hours till we had ate our meal which was in no way good but didn’t complain as we would never have gotten out,didn’t have time for tea as we were going to a concert the whole thing just spoiled our evening as we were too late then to meet up with our friends for a drink will never be back here
The food was delicious, well presented and full of lovely flavours.
Maybe a bad day: they had lots of people. However we waited 25 min and no server came to us. Food quality of the chicken salad was sub-par: some shreds of cooked chicken drumstick meat, the mixed greens had wilted and soggy leaves between the crisp leaves.
The manager was lovely and helped us immediately when he found it we have a tight time frame.
Food was ok. Didn’t like the goats cheese starter. Husband didn’t rate the beef. Kids seeemed happy enough. Price was pretty good for Dublin but don’t tho m I would rush back.
I arrived with my daughters for their birthdays . I booked online but there was nothing in book for reservations. We got the set menu and had to ask for a la pcrate menu no wine menu was given. We ordered starters and main course after asking what special was one of my daughters ordered that. When main courses came my daughter did nt get what she ordered so we swopped main courses as there was no specials left and it was very confusing between all the waiting staff. We waited over a half hour for dessert I asked for ice cream but it was one scoop. Asked for bill more confusion. Not itemized just given a price well over the set menu value with 2 drinks. There was a company do on roof which was very noisy . Was the most disorganized restaurant I ever used. I went after gettin a flyer through letter box did not get free dessert after using the word local by phone on line etc. staff were nice but service really bad. Carol
