The food is pretty good. The location and drinks are good. But the bartender needs a lot of training. He was slow and didn’t know how to multi-task AT ALL!!! I am reviewing this hoping the management sees and can provide proper training. He had to take care of one person at a time and I mean literally. He didn’t know how to just throw a menu down so we could look why he was busy and prepare our order. I asked for a cocktail menu and he said one second let me help them first. Menu’s were right there. Just set them down. Then he meticulously had to waste glasses and get EVERYONE a water before he even said hello to them. No one wants a water first at a bar. Ask if they want. A water AFTER their drink. No joke. We watched 8 waters come out and no one touched them. He was more worried about waters than anything. He just needs training on multi tasking behind a bar.

A very nice restaurant with generally good food, a good menu, and wonderful service. Unfortunately, some of the food was inconsistent. The butterscotch banana pudding, however, was worth a trip!

We will go back.

I’m not one to leave a bad review, but our overall experience was not what we expected. The food was delicious but small portions. Our waiter was not attentive and when it took a ridiculous amount of time to get a glass of wine and a beer (read: not a mixed drink), he did not communicate to us the problem, if any. The lights were way too bright to feel comfortable in the bar area and the costs were very high. I actually called a few places to see if we could leave and get in anywhere else, that is how dissatisfied we were. I’m sorry Sugarbacon, we really wanted to like it there!

Made a reservation for 6:30 and waited for an hour to be seated. Then, waited 30 min for food to arrive. My daughters food was served cold. Disappointed overall. Would not go back.

We had an enjoyable meal. Food was delicious. We loved the Brussel sprouts as a starter. The drinks were very good as well. Service was prompt. I would recommend visiting.

Loved everything but I had a headache and the music was really loud. I think even without a headache it might have bothered me. Seating was great, no wait though it took quite a while to find parking. The food and drinks were amazing. I think they have my favorite Brussels sprouts and rib tacos!!

Ambiance and menu gave us high hopes but our experience fell flat. Our server seemed to have amnesia (wish I was exaggerating) as he mixed our table up with another 4 times. We concluded he forgot to put our order in when he took it after he came by and asked for our order, that we had already given him, and ran back to the kitchen. At that point we had already been waiting about 45 minutes. The food was good but nothing to write home about as it was cold. The steak and Brussels sprouts were good but the sugar bacon was cold and we just expected more from it to be the namesake. The watermelon in it wasn’t even ripe. Just overall bad service, just good food if served in a timely manner but not worth the price

Nice decor, friendly staff, slow service. Food was properly prepared.
The negatives were, I got my toast for the Steak and eggs too late to enjoy since my food was cold by then. Also, we had a party of 6, and only 3 of us got our food at the same time, the other 3 got theirs after ours got cold waiting. (It wasn't busy at the time).

The old fashioned was great. The country grammar (with peach tree vodka) was ok. salmon filet was just right, cooked medium. the short rib was too fatty. warm beets and brussel sprouts were delightful. Pricey place at >$70 pp after tax and tip, but a great experience overall.

Took a bit to get service, eventually my buddy got the bartender who was helpful. I asked for no cheese on my dish which they forgot but the bartender/now server was able to get it squared away. I had to ask a few times for a refill on my drink and the last time it was just forgotten. I don't blame the overworked bartender but this is not new news for Sugarbacon. They often struggle with enough staff to manage. And the food is OK, not terrible, not great and I would love to see some new dishes and/or specials (or at least we werent told of any). Sugarbacon could use some new training or a management that understands how a restaurant runs well.

Most of the food was under seasoned. Even the house special, sugarbacon pork belly dish had ancho chill sauce but still had no flavor because it was under seasoned.
There was also the beet salad which I had high hopes for because beets are in season. They were canned beets, disappointing. I also added scallops and the were so salty I could not eat but 1. I only had 2 on the salad.
For the price of the food, it should have been so much better.
It tasted like the chef did not care.

My son took me here (my choice) for my birthday. I’m a foodie and this place has a good reputation. It definitely lived up to that reputation. The pork belly appetizer was tender and delicious. The grilled watermelon was a nice combo. The crawfish pot pie exceeded my expectations. It was OUTSTANDING! I would not change a thing. The grilled veggies with chimichurri sauce was very tasty. The hummingbird was a little disappointing. I know this cake well. The spices cake was TOO spiced and too dark and heavy. It needed more pineapple. The cream sauce was delicious. The Sugarbacon Old Fashion I had was terrific too.
My major objection was the LOUD MUSIC. The music was very good but O.M.G. it was so hard to talk we asked to be moved into the far end of a closed off section. It’s supposed to be background music, not prevent conversation. That alone would prevent me from returning.

I was looking forward to trying Sugar Bacon, the pics look great and is less congested than other restaurants. Service is good for this type of establishment. However, the food was the worst. Raw pork chop, cold half chicken. I would stick with the sandwiches if you find yourself there.

In the past one of my favorites. The ambiance hasn’t changed and there was a singing duo who were very good. Service was fine. My husband had the hamburger and I had the roast chicken. The food was brought to the table lukewarm at best. The chicken had a carrot ginger purée on top and was so heavy on ginger that it was unpleasant. The best thing on the plate was the Brussels sprouts. I could have made that my meal.

This was our first time eating at Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen, the food was excellent and the tables were very well spaced out, our waiter, Alex, was extremely helpful in explaining the dishes and recommending when asked.
If you are in downtown McKinney (or anywhere near) this place is well worth the visit.
Highly recommended.

We had reservations yet had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Then we were rushed through the meal from the start and the server did not even try to hide it. She seemed perturbed by us wanting dessert and asked if I wanted my wine to go. We were only there for a total of an hour and eating for maybe 30 minutes of it. We will not go back to Sugar Bacon. You pay for the experience and in this case we paid for a bad one.

Tasty food offerings. Of course you have to have the sugarbacon. I made reservations for my birthday dinner with my husband. Would have liked some sort of happy birthday expression. Whether it was said to me or possibly a little dessert treat. I was slightly bummed to not get acknowledged in some sort of simple way. However, my dirty martini was delicious! As was the scallops on cream corn. Who knew that would be a flavor sensation?! I recommend you go!

We called because we were running late for our reservation and they were very accommodating. Upon arrival we were seated right away and our server immediately arrived. The drinks and food were wonderful. The sugarbacon appetizer was to die for. We all wanted more. The ribeye taco juicy and flavorful but not a fan of the salsa that came with the chips. I prefer sweeter salsa. The crawfish pie and short ribs were a bit with our friends. Did not care for the pudding dessert but our friends loved their cake. Overall a wonderful experience and we definitely be returning.
