Chef FUKUZUKA and his staff were incredibly gracious. The sushi, especially tuna, were delicious and the best I have ever had. It was a wonderful treat as travelers to Japan.
Seven kinds of amazing tuna were served. Definitely the best tuna was eaten in Tokyo.
It will take Michelin Star soon. Worth every penny.
Fukuzuka made the date very special
So, I had the pleasure of a 2.5h omakase with a master sushi chef. That, I've done before, but the trick yesterday was that I was the only diner. It was booked in advance and was the best sushi experience of my life.
Not only the 19 courses of wonderful sashimi, nigiri, and one maki, but also the fact that this master explained every one of his decisions - the temperature of each piece of fish, which part of the fish was the source, the temperature of the rice used for that fish, the different vinegars used with the rice for that fish, etc. We relied on his limited English and my highly limited Japanese to communicate, until he brought out this neat little device that would translate everything each of us said. I want one of those, now. It allowed us to go from barely communicating to laughing, telling jokes, and enlivening the whole event.
In Japanese, edomae, as in edomae sushi, means in front of (Tokyo) Bay and dates to the early 1800s. Here, each intricacy and detail of chef Fukuzuka's edomae susi was optimized, amplified and explained in front of me.

This place is difficult to find and feels almost like you are climbing the stairs to someone's home, but the seven seat restaurant is as clean, pristine, and refined as it gets in the world of sushi. Outstanding experience with the greatest Japanese ingredients sourced by the chef. Every dish was really amazing and we got valuable explanation from the chef in a very friendly way to better understand what we were eating and how it had been prepared. All in one a high valuable experience recommended if you wanna share a memorable time with friends.

I can understand the chefs’ strong message.
However I don’t think that hot rice fits for sushi cuisine, though he insists this is the best match of the ingredient’s temperature.
I think his ingredients are very good, so they can be too expensive, but I gave up the rice temperature, his strong chatting( I couldn’t speak with my partner at all), and the darkness of the room.
Good but dont worth it. More expensive than Jiro, $700 US for a two person omakase.
Excellent food and chef is very experienced, professional and passionate! He prepared ingredient cards for non-Japanese guests! Just it's very difficult to find as it only has a tiny signage on the ground
Incredible Omakase experience. The place is just 6 seats, so it’s very personal. Upstairs on the 2nd floor - a little tough to find the place, but we couldn’t have asked for a better evening. The food was outstanding, the chef was fun, and the ambience was perfectly intimate. This guy deserves a Michelin star: From the presentation of sushi and flavor of food, to the way he grates wasabi, zests yuzu, grills eel, and makes ice cream with liquid nitrogen in front of you - all the details are there. It’s expensive, so be prepared, but worth every penny.
The roots are amazing but I wish they can change around the order of the menu. It’s also a little expensive for the course. Wish there is a lighter full menu and a bigger full menu so girls can choose lighter menu!
Before going, go to Fukuzuka's Instagram page (@sushi_fukuzuka) and watch the "to fukuzuka" videos for directions. Once you arrive at the white lantern on the ground, go up the stairs (even if it seems like nothing is there/open).
My meal at Fukuzuka alone made the 14 hour flight to Tokyo well worth it. Amazing sushi prepared in front of diners behind an eight seat counter. An experience I will never forget. Well worth the price. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience in Tokyo.
The food is fantastic. Price level is high but if you want this quality of sushi this is the price you need to pay. It is a bit hard to find the entrance so be there in time. Will surely have a star within short.
great ambiance, AMAZING sushi. 5 kinds of Tuna/Tuna belly (Toro). I was surprisingly full after. expensive but worth every penny! it was a fantastic experience.
This was a truly incredible meal and one of the best sushi experiences I've had in Japan. A bit hard to find, but the seemingly hidden location down a side street and up some steps, made it feel a bit more special. Very small restaurant with primarily counter seating. As a solo diner passing through Tokyo on business, this was the perfect spot for a late night dinner. I really appreciated their patience with my lack of Japanese, and we had some really funny moments with google translate. Not every high end sushi restaurant will take a booking from a foreigner, so I really appreciated their willingness and good nature. Pricing was in line with other high end Omakase menus in Tokyo, and you get what you pay for. Tuna was incredible quality. Would definitely recommend, and especially before the Michelin crowd starts coming, which I can imagine will make last minute booking impossible. I'm sure Michelin stars are in the future, so really a special experience to dine here before the hype.
