Guests can enjoy a relaxing meal or drink in a truly special environment that combines traditional and modern design. Guests can warm themselves in front of our wood burning stoves or dine alfresco and take in the tranquil gardens with the soothing sounds of the stream.
We welcome dogs and their well behaved owners in our garden and bar areas and it's a great place to start or end a day out with a lovely meal and refreshing drink.
Situated in the village of Newtown just outside Newbury 5 minutes drive from Highclere Castle and conveniently located close to the A34 and Newbury Racecourse.
Excellent service and food. After our first visit we didn't even think of looking for somewhere to eat the second and last night of our break. We would definitely be regulars if we didn't live 200 miles away.
this is a strange one....as the building and setting is lovely so should be 5 stars, but the food is for me lack luster, and is really rather average....and so there is always a reason why we only seem to go back every 5 years or so. Shame really, the food isn't awful but certainly not for a special night out
You need to sort out your booking form, as it is giving me the wrong name
I have been several times to The Swan and I can honestly say I have never had a complaint. Would recommend to family and friends.
When we got there our table had been given to someone else so we were put in a corner right next to another table within earshot for the whole evening...
The starter and main was lovely but the dessert, a simple Eton mess was inedible... A bowl of mush with cream and a strawberry on top... They took it back and took it off the bill but it ruined the experience of a romantic meal.
Great pub food, good atmosphere and friendly staff.
Large portions, so value for money. Highly recommend
Quiet table where we could chat with friends. Service was outstanding and even though there was a couple of mistakes with orders these were rectified quickly. It did take a while for our food to arrive but it was delicious when it did. Would definitely recommend to friends. Having a voucher from our Christmas meal helped with the cost.
Lovely & cosy on a winter evening, excellent food & service, a very nice evening.
Very good place to catch up with friends and a friendly efficient experience
Perfect as always, food was amazing and the beer well kept
Had the roast lamb, meat was tough and fatty.
Will stick to main dishes in the future. Pie was good and so was the scampi
We have visited The Swan many times as a great halfway point to meet some friends for a Sunday lunch. It never disappoints, the food and service are always excellent
Went here for Sunday lunch which was absolutely lovely. Huge portions. Great service by the very friendly and attentive staff. Only negative was that it was pretty cold where we were sat.
Evening out with the wife, all round good experience
Nice venue and food was good. For January we found the place too cold and the furniture not very comfortable but all round a nice experience.
Meal was good people were also very good although food was good it was a bit slow, we had a table of 4 and the fourth person was always waiting for there food for some time after the other 3.
Enjoyed the meal and venue. This was a dinner for my partner’s birthday which she thoroughly enjoyed. The steak was delicious.
Great food and service as always. Good location friendly welcome and energetic atmosphere.
The tables were too close together so it was difficult getting in and out.
The Beef Bourguignon looked like a big black splotch with no structure to the meat but the other three people with me were happy with their food and spoke highly of the Bread and Butter pudding.
First went to Swan Inn 50 years ago, and the premises have changed dramatically. Food was good and staff attentive.
Service was quite slow but the restaurant was very busy. Otherwise a very pkeasant mea
Great food great service .... just a great place would highly recommend
Excellent value for money. Most of the staff were young waiters or waitresses but they were very polite and attentive. Couldn't do enough for us :-) I
Superb food, great service, will definitely be back
I use a wheelchair. Many staff were extremely helpful and considerate of my needs.
Lovely pub and service but the food was nothing special and massively over-priced in my opinion.
Arrived and seated to table but there was a noisy party next to us so asked to move and relocated to a quiet alcove which was much better. Service very good and food was superb. So good we have booked again for a Christmas Meal. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Wonderful atmosphere and superbly kept beer. Nice, friendly staff but the whole experience let down by poorly cooked and sourced food (veggie and fish).
The roast beef was more gristle than meat.
We ordered a small glass of wine but got given a medium, and then got charged for a medium as well.
We asked for the dessert menu, half an hour later still no menu !
Sadly we didn't tip, we did not feel the meal or the service justified it.
We booked the Swan for a Friday lunchtime. It's a very pleasant atmosphere and both the service & food were good. I'd recommend the sausage & mash. Will definitely eat here again.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch. There are four choices of Roast meats. I chose beef and the plate was full of vegetables and two Yorkshire puds, all delicious. Lots of food.
We will go back for seconds!👍🏻😊
Very nice lunch at the Swan which is well worth a visit
I dined with my elderly mother. Staff were very kind to my mum - happy to do a small portion for her, the offer of an arm to walk to the loo and even an offer to cut up food if required. We were both impressed with their positive attitude.
Great food and considering there were 8 of us the service was very efficient and courteous. This was a great place for us to meet as we came from Oxford, Portsmouth and Staines. Will do it again soon.
Excellent, friendly empathetic staff, divine menu...puddings sublime
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend to anyone.
Lovely venue for Sunday Lunch. Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful, excellently cooked and tasty! Only negative was the prices: £3.80 for a pint of coke! Will go again though, triple roast was delicious!
Food very good service excellent. Have been two weeks running.
Always a lovely meal, great service and yummy food....recommend
