Beautiful decor was let down by mediocre food. Starters were fair but our two main dish curries were very unimaginative. A thin sauce with no sign of a vegetable, even an onion.
We had no wine and the bill was just short of £90.....expensive even for London. Such a shame as we only had two nights in the city.
Second time I've visited Tamarind. The food is delicous and the service was fantastic. Our server took great care of me and my partner who was running very late. She ensured our food arrived quickly so we could still get to the theatre on time and made me feel really welcome and that nothing was too much bother. Highly recommend.
Fantastic shrimp and lobster dishes...
Super food - lovely blends of spices. A lovely waitress who was very attentive (but not intrusive).
Good choice of food and drinks which were fairly priced
soft shell crab was dry and flavourless, prawn curry had the consistency of water and was bland, crispy squid was ok-ish. garlic naan was good. mango and avocado salad was messy and difficult to eat. mixed grill for £19 was 2 small pieces of lamb kebab, one tiny piece of chicken and one prawn, taste was nothing spectacular so I don't know how they can justify charging that much. A lot of money for well below average. Not worth it.
fantastic food and we were treated super nice. we were looking for great indian food in a not too formal/casual environment and were totally happy with the choice.
The food and service was great but our table was situated in an awful location. Right by the kitchen gateway so was noisy and we had a constant stream. We asked to move but there were no available tables. There should not be a table in that corner location. After a long week you want to be able to relax and enjoy your dinner which was sublime I might add!
Fantastic place; always go there. Food is outstanding and super wine choices
Very much enjoyed food and drinks (I recommend chilli/mango martini). Atmosphere and staff very nice
The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. However, the portion size for what we paid was not at all worth the meal. Over £60 for a meal for two and it was just not worth it. I would not recommend this to anyone.
Poor experience. After another customer broke a glass and the glass dispersing over over table and over us the manager ignored our complaint and then we where left waiting for a dessert menu for 30mins.
Excellent food, nice presentation and a very enthusiastic waitress who was also very helpful and « smart ». I had ordered a side portion of rice and she very nicely pounted out that my vegetarian meal already had rice in it. In many restaurants they would not pay attention to these details. I also had a glass of wine (Malvec) and their Moscato for « dessert ». It was lovely. I would definitely go there again!!!
Good food, good service, good ambiance, bit on the expensive side...
Absolutely love this place. Every time we go to London, we book this place for one evening. I recommend the set menu to get a chance to taste a modern twist of indian cuisine. Over the years I booked for business and also just a relaxed dinner with my lovely wife. Thank you again for great service and great food. A special thanks to our server Yolanda who was top of the line!
The food was good, just a bit on the expensive side.
All the food tasted lovely, though some dishes could have been hotter. There was only us and one other table in but the service was dreadfully slow and disorganised. Being so quiet it lacked atmosphere, but would be fine with more people - provided the service could cope!
The food tasted and looked amazing with a modern twist on some Indian classics. Some of the dishes on the menu were very original in their concept. The Service was really good too. It's not the cheapest place in London but you get what you pay for. The picture with this review is the deconstructed passion-fruit trifle.
Great food, tried a couple of vegetarian dishes had never seen on a menu before and they were just lovely. A good level of spice and innovative too. Lovely staff, quite quiet for a Sunday lunchtime, but that was okay with us.
Great meal on a saturday early evening. Lovely service. Relaxing. Fabulous flavours.
Yes more expensive than your average curry .. but this isnt your average curry!
Loved it! 😊
One of best Indians in town!
The food & service were top notch from the time I entered the restaurant until I left happily with a smile on my satisfied face. The sea bass and lobster should not be missed!
The best dining experience in London! It is always so wonderful to visit Tamarind Kitchen!!
Wonderful as usual!
Service was quite patchy. We were made to wait for our table despite having a booking. Some items were forgotten. It was not made clear to us that starters are more sharing style and so led to everyone receiving their food at separate times.
Very tasty food. Combination of spices was like nothing I've ever tasted. Exquisite!
Excellent atmosphere and quick service! Keep it up!!!
Great value pre-theatre menu!
Overall an interesting meal. Beautiful interior decor. Our one complaint — we had a 5:00 res, just as they opened. We were seated right next to host stand/door. As a result, every party was seated and wisked past our table — I was dumb in not insisting we were moved once seated. Also servers who were not busy gathered up there — for owners that count Michelin started dining in their fold the experience was suprising and disappointing.
A brilliant restaurant with a lovely waiting staff and great ambiance. I would highly recommend.
The food tastes very authentic and worth the price. The portion sizes are big for even tapas style. The waiting staff is very attentive - they would appear immediately when you finish a course. Finally, the ambiance is brilliant! Definitely going back again very soon!
Starters were amazing, mains were decent but not special, black daal was very good. Tables are too close together.
Delicious food and loved the tapas style as you got to try lots of dishes but without over eating. Great atmosphere and good service.
It was a great experience. Yolanda our server was very welcoming. I came with my children and it was there first Authentic Indian experience. She made them feel comfortable in not so familiar cuisine for them. The food was excellent. We ordered about 6 different dishes and some wine, all were delicious.
It was great and the food and the service!I liked it very much and I will definitely go again
I love Indian food , but the menu was short , there was no many options
New Year’s Eve
Went for a New Years Eve dinner, the food and service were very good, the portions are quite small and prices are quite steep but worth it for a once in a while special occasion. Some of the dishes could be spicier and a cloakroom would have been useful.
I contacted the restaurant prior to my visit as I'm vegan. I booked the table for my partners birthday as she was keen to try the restaurant. I was assured on the phone that there were vegan options however when arriving, I was advised that there were only side dishes. It's very poor for a restaurant of this price point to be unable to cook food fresh for dietary requirements or adapt a side dish into a main. Also, I received an email the day before my visit stating that there was a minimum order of £50pp which is very pricey. If I were to cancel, there would have been a cancellation fee.
However, the seats were very comfortable and my partner received a free dessert for her birthday. That was nice. The food itself tasted good but not enough vegan options and too expensive.
Food was really tasty but the aircon was a little over zealous.
We had an excellent meal at Tamarind Kitchen. We were with some French friends who were after some milder dishes. The waiters were really helpful and attentive in suggesting a great selection of traditional curries which they adjusted to our friends’ palates.
To round it all off we had khulfi martinis which are superb!
