Loved our visit to have some lunch on our way back from Cumbria.

Staff were spot on. Drinks order taken quickly and food order. Food came in good time and we all loved it. We had the Chicken Burgers and Onion rings, our two picky eaters (9 and 4) said it was the best fish goujons and chicken nuggets they have ever had! Finished off with a lovely Apple Crumble with Ice Cream.

Service was prompt throughout but I think we got caught up in new bookings arriving as we were awaiting to pay and carry on with our journey. It was nice to see so many people coming for lunch though and we were lucky to stop by on a visit before the lock down.

Highly recommend and we will be back

Mash barely warm. Asked for reheat in microwave but staff responded they’d happily get me a fresh meal but that wasn’t very warm either.
Didn’t want to complain again so ate it.
Would have been happy with a minute in the microwave.

The weather wasn't too good so the real fire was lit - don't get a table anywhere near it, most unpleasant.

Love it here! Staff are always attentive, polite and hard working to make your meal and stay so pleasurable. Well done to everyone involved during such a difficult time. Obviously well planned and risk assessed to keep everyone safe but also making the time spent here enjoyable. Food is excellent and great value for money. 100% recommended!

Keep the menu simple and you’ve got more chance of getting it out the kitchen on time and not running out of stock

Food was and service was excellent. Only let down was the crying child in the corner. I know it can't be helped but it ruins a pleasant atmosphere.

We booked a few days in advance and drove 2 hours from Bradford. Upon arrival we had to stand in the rain whilst people were shown inside to their tables. Once inside it appeared quiet but the staff where very chaotic and not very welcoming at all.

We were shown to our tables and ordered our drinks, 20 minutes later we received only part of the drinks order so then had to wait 25 minutes further... the excuse was the wifi could have dropped half the order but this doesn’t make up for the cons wait when they noticed our drinks were missing.

We used this time to choose from the menu we had lots of children who were very hungry and they wanted fish & chips and pizzas the usual children’s choice.

When the waiter came we put in our order to be told there was no fish & chips, no pizzas, no soup, no chicken, no curry. What a total let down and more to the point why weren’t we informed upon arrival or when our menus were given to us.

We asked to speak to a manager who came over in what felt like an aggressive manor and was speaking loudly so that other tables could hear what was going on which was not only unprofessional but unpleasant and embarrassing to say the least.

We declared that we weren’t happy to pay the bill for the drinks, because had we been informed that half the menu was missing we wouldn’t have ordered drinks. This of course was credited.

We understand that yes covid is having a major factor in the running of businesses - however there was no excuse whatsoever to not inform us upon arrival or even when presenting the menu (2 missed opportunities to avoid the embarrassment and upset)

Ordered the 3 course meals, soup, roast dinner and apple crumble with custard,
Soup came out in about 15min,quite nice mushroom soup,my wife ordered lamb,I ordered beef, 1hr 45 minutes later it came, beef was that tough I couldn’t chew it,one scoop of mash a few peas, piece of carrot, piece of parsnip both not been peeled, red cabbage boiled till it resembled stew,,30 minutes after the apple crumble came, it was stone bloody cold,
As you can guess I won’t be going back,to sum up in one word,
RUBBISH.

We booked a table in the main pub at 5.30 for a meal. It was fabulous home cooked food that arrived quickly even though the pub was busy. Then we booked a table in the barn at 7.30 for the live band. It was a brilliant night overall. We had a fabulous night and can't wait to return.

Made the table booking Sunday evening, for Monday lunchtime - lunch to be part of a ‘Penine way’ walk. After completing the morning walk we arrived at the Tan Hill to find it closed for a few days deep clean.
There were several other walkers who had arrived to discover the same.
I understand that COVID-19 means such things are necessary - but online bookings should not be possible 12 hours ahead of the closure.
I would not mark a score as low as 1 for food and ambiance as we did not enter the premises to eat.
Service was disappointing in as much as the pub was closed and the booking should not have been accepted only a few hours ahead.

I only knocked off a star because service was slow ,but I think this may only be because of covid systems they have had to put on place ? So I wouldn't be too hard on them .
Food and drink was very good , nice place to spend a few hours , bonus of live music as well and the band was really good .
Well definitely be back.

This was our third visit to Tan Hill and it was like a different pub, the 2 previous visits were amazing great food service and atmosphere.
Unfortunately this time something seems to have changed??
The atmosphere was not the same usual buzz, the music was fine until the odd explicit song came on, despite a lot of staff coming and going service was slow this time as was food delivery. The presentation of the starters has changed and my Caesar Salad literally looked like it had been thrown in the bowl and then a load of greenery thrown on top, my wife loves the Prawn Cocktail and even though it has raw red onion in, which she doesn't like, its never been a problem as she previously picked the onion out, however it now comes with finely diced red onion and lots of it which she couldn't pick out. When the staff member asked her if it was ok she pointed this out but they just picked up the plates with no comment.
We then waited ages for our main course, so long in fact that the couple that arrived the same time as us left just after our mains arrived.
My wife had the Steak and Ale pie, one of the main reasons we go, that was all fine, I decided to try the Fish and Chips, as my wife had previously had it and recommended it.
People on the table next to us had Fish as well and they had very large bits of fish, mine was half the size, the chips were luke warm and the batter wasn't cooked underneath. Didn't enjoy it at all but we had waited so long I didn't want to send it back and wait the same time again.
Also the peas hadn't been drained so when I tipped them on my plate everything got soaked with water. I had hoped that this was just a one off and we were just unlucky, but reading some of the previous recent reviews it does seem a bit hit and miss, which is a shame. When I paid the bill the staff member asked if everything was alright and I was going to mention all of the above but they didn't give me chance just cut me off as I started talking and disappeared.
