Food was lovely good choice of beers and gins. Cleanliness really let the place down.
Absolute rip off!!! 10 pound per head to reserve a table which does not get knocked off your bill at the end!! Food quality was absolutely shocking. Burger and chips cost £27.00 inc £10 table reservation and was awful, chips were rock hard, burger was definitely not gourmet. Ordered fish fingers and mash for my 7 year old son (£6.95 plus £10 to reserved a table, £16.95 in total for fish finger and mash!! which again was absolutely shocking, fish fingers we're gourjens which all had thick slimy black skin still on! the fish was awful, certainly not cod of similar, absolutely awful. Mash had skin on top & was full of hard lumps! I cannot believe how shockingly bad the food was. Sent the child's meal back & we shared my burger as he was starving. Luckily we had pot noodles back at the tent. Very disappointed with the food & was shockingly expensive, i have never heard of paying to reserve a table then it doesn't come off your bill. We have emailed Tan Hill however have not received a response. If no reply, ill be posting my reviews all over social media, trip advisor etc. Such a shame as the scenery, campsite etc is lovely.
The journey to the pub was fantastic but getting there we were seated inside at a very ordinary table for 2 near the kitchen entrance..is this your idea of Top Table ?? Food very very average and menu was very disappointing. Outside the pub scenery beautiful but inside was lacking totally with any ambiance..please work harder to make it a better pub ....
The main disappointment was the menu. Having visited in September last year and had a wonderful meal, we’d been looking forward to our visit this year. Instead we found a menu with just four mains offered, all at £16.95 and not a fresh food item to be seen except the lemon! All from the freezer to the fryer. I was told that the full menu was only served at night. The service was slow but that wasn’t a problem for us but the wait staff seemed not to have been trained. Food arrived with no cutlery, napkins or sauces. On clearing the table, the waiter leaned across the table instead of walking a few steps to the other end of the table - it was as if Covid never happened. Certainly not a mask in sight except for a very few people arriving to eat. The ladies’ toilets were clean but only one working basin for three toilets. I expect most people go for the location of the pub and I certainly can’t fault that. Tan Hill doesn’t disappoint unlike the eponymous pub.
Really lovely place, staff were lovely! Really nice atmosphere and the food was so good.
Food was overpriced with a very poor lunch selection.
Nice meal and usual Tan Hill friendly atmosphere. Glad we booked as 30 mins later we may have not got a table!
Saw previous bad reviews but thought it'd just be poor value for money and moderate food and that the view would more than make up for it. Would 100% recommend the walks and drives nearby but even if you're just stopping for a drink, find a different pub. Glasses were dirty and service was poor. Wouldn't blame the staff but certainly would blame the owner. Pulled pork burger came without any pulled pork! Unfortunately had to pay up front and was only offered a discount on our next drinks in return. Would have found better food in your local whetherspoons for a quarter of the price. Unfortunate as the place had so much character and potential
Ha d a good meal would call again, roads very interesting
Great drive out to an old favourite. Welcome from Tony and his team was exceptional. Food basic but ok. Drinks excellent. Look forward to our next visit.
Extremely beautiful place , our dog loved the walks there. Weather was brilliant and very warm for time of year. Loved seeing the pub where Vera filmed there a few years ago. Food was very nice and service was quick. All staff very polite and friendly. Also loved the history snd the names carved in stone that lived there years back . Well done
Great place, great food and drink we will come back when we can!
Staff were lovely, a bit disorganised at times though
Excellent nights stay. Food impressive quality and portions. Would recommend
Very tasty, good food, music a bit infantile- Disney/ABBA but staff were lovely, accommodating, relaxed
Lovely bar and staff.
Food was delicious and a was a very full plate.
We booked on line and we were not sure of the options when booking a table as there was no good explanation and when we got there we realised there was 3 rooms we could of eaten in, but we did get a lovely table in the dining room.
A place everyone should visit at least once, it has been on bucket list a long time.
We came up to the Tan Hill on Sunday 12/09. Sadly we were late due to a road accident. But the table was still waiting. We got served very quickly this time. The food was excellent
We had Sunday Lunch - it was quick to arrive and a nice plateful. Standard pub lunch and very good. Nothing fancy! The Tan Hill Inn was an amazing location and quite an experience. Loved the drive over and the amazing views..this place is unique! Not fine dining but who cares - you come here for the incredible wild location. Staff were very friendly too.
Coming over the ridge to the wonderful sight of the Tan Hill was the boost I needed. Seeing the mix of walkers/bikers/cyclists & tourists was amazing. It was quick & easy to check in, plenty of space for the tent. A warm relaxing place to relax from a long walk & a hearty meal, live music & pleasant atmosphere to end a very enjoyable the day. Tan Hill we will see you again very soon
Food was very good, but I see like most places prices have risen. Live music was very good and the atmosphere was great. Staff are fantastic and the pub is very clean.
Good wholesome food after a hard days walk or cycle.
Incredible location, an amazing drive to get there with brilliant music playing both outside and in.
Poor management, lack of communication & staff training meant that no-one took us to our booked table and the kitchen staff were constantly running around the pub looking for who had ordered plates of food. The food offering was poor and in particular the nachos, salsa and gaucamole tasted & looked as if it was all straight out of a jar.
Go for the location, the drink, the music & the experience but not the food!
The food here is amazing, all freshly made. The service was also excellent. Lots of choice and fairly priced when you consider where you are! We will be returning. Thanks you
Fantastic place definitely worth a visit, the meat pies are great
Wasn't informed until day of arrival menu had been reduced considerably.
By open table .
At dinner got told what table was seating at was dirty and an old face mask was left on the table !
Menu wasn't the same again as open table had sent .
Ordered starter of nachos and prawn cocktail my prawn cocktail came out with the jalopeano s on top instead of the nachos I do not like them anyway so was bit peeed of!
Main was nice portions are decent .
They were busy but very unorganised .
Friendly people .
Lovely place to visit to say you've been .
Good tasty good, reasonably priced for the location
Excellent food, great beer, fantastic location! Views amazing.
Good pub food and plenty of it. A little on the expensive side for mains but still good food
Been coming here for a few years and food has always been brilliant. Came today ordered lamb dinner and my partner ordered a beef dinner. The food came out quickly however meat and yorkshire pudding were cold. I continued to eat as we were sat outside when cutting further into the yorkshire pudding and putting it to my mouth it felt frozen. It has to be one of the worst meals we have ever had. I think this may be due to the expanision of the inn out door seating etc that they are unable to keep up with demand . I think they need to look into this so that they do not lose customers .
Superb location , good menu and tasty food . Very slow service thou
The views where beautiful just as we thought the property was full of character , the food was not great we had a Sunday roast the beef was very tough and the food didn’t have much taste sorry 😟as we where expecting better . Would try again to. Hope it was a one Off .
Food was delicious, however, prices for meals much more expensive than the prices listed on the Open Table menu
We are aware they have received some bad recent reviews. We love this place, it’s remote which is part of the attraction. If you are looking for fine dining stick to towns and cities. Stayed in camper van last night. Basic facilities but fine for a night or two. Staff were lovely food nice and piping hot. Only small negative food a little pricey but apart from that we will return again. Hoping next time will catch some of the life music
Expensive over rated just about edible food and staff who seemed as though they didn’t want to be there. (Except one)
Booked for lunch after a walk, average food and service
Went for Sunday lunch really expensive food was cold wouldn't go back again
Best place ever. Views amazing on this stunning August evening. Superb steaks.
Poor service. Table we were allocated was dirty; uncollected glasses & crisp packets. Starters arrived promptly but main courses took nearly 45 /50 minutes to arrive. The young waitress was very apologetic. Apparently beer cannot be served in glass if you intend to drink it outside but wine can! Completely illogical.
The location is spectacular as is the drive from Reeth but honestly I wouldn’t bother.
Very disappointed overall with food and bar service, and will certainly not rush back...
Tan Hill Inn looks good on the website but it didn't live up to our expectations. There were obviously problems in the cellar as both the beers I tried were cloudy. The food was served quickly by attentive staff but was not very hot. The place will always be busy because of its location but it could be much better
It’s an amazing location & our dog friendly family room was very good. Maybe shower area could have felt cleaner but things were ok.
The main pub though felt v closed in & not overly Covid safe. There were no hand sanitizers anywhere, v few wearing masks & the windows were all closed.
Food was fine, typical pub food, nothing too amazing but no complaints from us.
The outside seating area looks good but sadly weather wasn’t too compatible w outside dining.
We ate one evening in a ‘dome’ which was lovely though we felt a bit forgotten once the mains were served as nobody came to ask if we wanted any more drinks or pudding etc. And it’s a bit of schlep outside to have to wander from dome to bar to get service, and also somewhat negates the experience of eating in beautiful solitude in a dome.
A good stop for walking & for fueling up the body. but perhaps one night stay is enough.
