About

Tangawizi restaurant in London’s East Twickenham, close to Richmond Bridge, earned the well-heeled locals’ devotion right from the off. The chef is ‘trained by and strongly recommended by Vineet Bhatia’ and that’s saying quite a lot. The dining room is very smart, mood-enhancingly lit in saffron and blackberry with details of beautiful sari fabric inlaid in the tables. Dishes are authentic North Indian, but cutting-edge and contemporary, the way we Londoners like them: the freshest of ingredients, little oil, sparkling flavours. Try the mixed platter of starters to share to really browse the possibilities, then choose something like spicy marinated red snapper in tempura batter served with cheddar and Parmesan risotto, with one of the lovely dahls on the side. The traditionally-clad waitstaff are very attentive and the whole experience a winner.

Our first visit and were warmly welcomed. Both main courses we chose were excellent, particularly recommend the saffron lamb. We will return very soon.

Curry after the rugby. They were busy so service a bit slow but understandable given the time of year. Good value and lovely food. Would go again.

The food was excellent. The service in general was good, but one specific waiter had difficulty understanding. We ordered all food without fresh coriander and garlic nans without butter. The "no-coriander" requested was adhered to, but the nans came with butter. It was a struggle trying to explain what we asked for and he kept mixing up withe "no coriander" request. There were two rather large parties on two sides of our table which meant conversation between the 3 of us was very limited. That's Christmas time for you!

Very very disappointed, have had excellent food previously but this time main courses were awful, lumps of meat in “tinned soup” sauce , tasteless. Had better curry from Tesco. Starters were ok

Professional and nice staff, warm atmosphere, nice interiors. However, the was quite inauthentic and westernised. It was nicely presented, nothing too oily or salty, but didn't have the depth or punch of real Indian cuisine, was all a bit underwhelming. Nice staff and very pleasant atmosphere though.

Tangawizi is in the Good Food Guide with a rating of 2 so I was disappointed to find that the food was fairly mediocre. All the curries seemed to have the same tomato based sauce as though this is poured over precooked meat or seafood. Even vegetable curry tasted the same. Yet prices were on a par or more expensive than much better Indian restaurants like Potli. A big disappointment apart from the smiling and friendly service.

Honestly the worse curry i have eaten in a restaurant. It wasn't bad exactly, but just a bit bland and unsatisfying; i have had better from super market ready meals.

The staff were so attentive that we actually felt rushed through out the meal. Someone came to take our drink order, then less than a minute later someone different came to take it again, lastly a third member of staff came to take our drink order within the space of 5 mins. It was nuts! This theme continued throughout the meal with our food and dessert orders also.

The food then came while we were still making our way through the popadoms, meaning we still had a full table that quickly had to be hurried away before we had finished.

I have been to a fair few excellent Indian restaurants (for frankly less money) but this was not one of them.
