Middle Eastern

About

A Lebanese and Persian restaurant on Brighton’s busy Western Road, Taste of Sahara gives seaside dwellers a taste of the exotic at a very reasonable price. With its décor created with care to reflect the atypical Middle East of story books and holiday brochures – all pierced tin lanterns, heavy wood and rich colours – Taste of Sahara has a look which reflects the diverse flavours of its immensely flavourful menu. From kebabs to tagines, all one’s Middle Eastern favourites are offered by the Sahara kitchen, along with some lesser known dishes that will tempt the more adventurous diner. In particular, the restaurant’s mezzes prove popular, the sharing concept somehow suited to this kind of cuisine, particularly when accompanied by the BYO policy.

Visited on a busy Friday night. Service was great and attentive even when it was a full house. Ordered meze banquet for starter, very tasty combinations. For mains, we ordered tagines, some mix grills, a veg dish. The flavour of tagines were lovely but somehow the meat inside were dry and chewy dispite lovely flavours. Mix grills were Delicious, very tender juicy meat. Their BYO policy is a great saver for wine drinker. I will definitely visit again soon.

Such a warm and friendly welcome and always very genuine. The Food was fantastic, we had our good friends from Paris with us who are spoilt rotten with North African cuisine where they live and they loved it. We will be going back very soon.

Had a great first experience and this was my second visit. Sadly didn't live up to the first visit. Starters took a long time to arrive, main course was over-cooked and bill over-stated.

Had a large group dinner at Taste of Sahara in Brighton and had a great experience! Fantastic value for money especially as BYO with no corkage fees. Friendly and timely service, very accomodating to the larger table size and all starters and mains were served to everyone at the same time. Only one main was slightly later and a complimentary side was provided alongside this. Relaxed atmosphere and felt no pressure to rush out after eating which was appreciated.

I enjoyed my meal at Sahara in Brighton so much that I have to visit Brighton again this year so that I can return! Food: Moroccan was FABULOUS! Tasty & spicy but not HOT. 3 of us started with the Mezi (for 2) and it was so generous we were full but then Mains were so tasty we ate those too (Lamb Tagine/Mixed Shish Grill/Lamb chops). 2 dining rooms 1 at rear has 2 round tables which can be curtained off. Enclosed patio at back. 1 Female WC. BYOB no corkage! Helpful/charming Manager. Recommend

Four of us enjoyed a pre-concert dinner at the Sahara in Brighton. The food was of high quality with authentic North Africa/Middle Eastern flavours. Staff were friendly and efficient. No licence, but several nearby places to buy wine or beer if you've come unprepared. Recommended.

I visited Sahara in Brighton with 4 friends last Friday night. I can honestly say that this was one of the best meals and most professional and attentive service that I have ever had. From the moment we arrived to the time that we left the owner and his staff were so charming. We ate from a set menu which was superb and excellent value and we were seated in a private and very comfortable booth. It was so good that we stayed for almost 4 hours! I would highly recommend this restauarant.

As soon as we arrived at Sahara in Brighton we were made to feel welcome. The frindly proprietor was always polite and chaty but not overbearing. The food was utterly delicious - we shared a mixed platter to start which had some of the best Kibbeh I have eaten anywhere. The food was a wide mix of middle eastern cuisine- I ate the Kabseh, a typicsl Saudi Arabian dish which was incredibly flavoursome and very filling. A great experience overall though a touch expensive, even with BYOB.

A very enjoyable evening at the Sahara. Nice welcome, friendly staff. New owners (6 months ago) . Service was good, good portions and very nice food. Good value too as you take your own alcohol which keeps the bill down. Definately recommended.

Pleasantly surprised with this one. A new resto in Brighton, which already has a good following from locals. Very personalised service from staff and owners. English families, Asian families, friends, North African footies all seemed to like it. I had the lamb kabseh (which is the quintessential Arab dish apparently) and loved it. My boyfriend had a sultan grill and that looked great, too. Good VFM even without the TT deal. Would come back!

This is a new restaurant in Brighton and the service was particularly good. The food was good value and because the wine is 'bring your own' the overall cost was very reasonable.

Sahara restaurant - Western Road Brighton
Lovely relaxed but welcoming staff. Plenty of help and patience when quizzed over spiciness and content of dishes. There were 7 of us and we all had a great meal both meat and veggie. Definitely would book again. Prices reasonable too.

This gorgeously decorated BYO restaurant is a great find. The staff are friendly and nothing was too much trouble. However, putting all that aside the food was out of this world. We had the Tunisian sausages special and Lamb tajin. Both were incredible. We'll definitely be back.
