Tavern at the Sun Inn
As we adjust to outdoors and staffing concerns, some areas of our restaurant may be closed off.
Taverns were a center of daily life in colonial times. They were the local, social and political hubs that spawned the thinking that led to the American Revolution. Tavern at the Sun Inn continues in this tradition offering a Colonial-inspired Seasonal food and beverage menu in a truly unique gathering spot.
Tavern’s culinary team is led by Billy Gruenewald. He offers a casual tavern-style menu that changes to match what is seasonally available and features some ingredients that would have been available to Bethlehem’s founders. Dinner is served on the Sun Inn’s second floor and light fare and drinks outdoors on the beautiful North Green when the weather permits.
Outdoor seating is first come first serve.

We had an appetizer of toast points with three types of spreads- this was amazing. And a salad with salmon- that was also very good.
We ate at the bar and Scottie was very attentive and a wonderful host.
hidden gem with a very nice atmosphere. Very pleased with the food and service. Try the boilo!
Food was a solid good … first time dining here . Tables were a little close considering Covid …. My husband got the BLT and said there was hardly any bacon ?! I had the tenderloin sliders and curry butternut squash soup both were very good … not sure I would go back
Went there for the Christmas holidays. Was extremely disappointed that there were ZERO holiday decorations in the entire dining area. Our reservations were for THREE people. The restaurant was completely booked the entire day except 3:30. We took that time. Unfortunately, one member could not get there in time. The hostess didn't even ask if we would be happy with a 2 seat table. The stuck us in the corner behind a wall pillar. We were the ONLY people in this room the entire time. While it was nice to have the room to ourselves, we were somewhat insulted. I thought they were booked solid??? Our appetizers just hit the table and behind that server was the server with our main course. Was not very enjoyable at all
Food was great. Service great too!
Wonderfully restored building to enjoy a nice bite
The Tavern at the Sun Inn is a wonderful venue for a casual (and delicious) meal.
The setting is delightful, and the staff are most attentive and helpful.
The menu items are wonderfully presented, with many appealing choices. The lobster roll was excellent, as was the Adams salad. The many beer and wine choices are not overpriced.
The only negative is that the noise level is high. This is undoubtedly due to the many hard surfaces present in this old Inn. (I am not sure what, if anything, can be done to mitigate the noise level).
Overall, a wonderful and engaging dining experience. We will return.
First time there and it was delightful. Good and service were great.
We had a lovely lunch. The staff was very friendly. The food was excellent!
Very happy with my experience. Our server was great, and the chicken pot pie and Rattlesnake drink were even better. My husband had a blackened cod but the sides were pretty lackluster (melon in balls and polenta cut into triangles). We’ll be back but only for that chicken pot pie & drinks.
Service was great, food was really good. The restaurant was also adorable.
Excellent! We love this place. Certainly try the lobster roll called a peasant roll.
Everyone was very attentive. The food was excellent. A perfect evening and great atmosphere to entertain family we haven’t seen in 30 years . A memorable evening.
It is always a good meal there but unfortunately we would have rather have been seated inside but with only one server, who already had table outside it would have been a long wait.
Loved our experience as it was our first time. Menu could use a few more options.
That’s all but great time on the patio.
Historical structure, good service, average food.
We love the history and authenticity of The Sun Inn. We were reuniting with dear friends and were able to communicate easy while enjoying the ambiance and delicious lunch. Service was spot on.
Waited a long time for our wine. And outdoor patio was not crowded. My chicken Flatbread was okay but cold. Husband's burger was very overcooked and he ordered it medium rare. Won't be back again.
A newer menu that had a nice variety. From speciality burger to strip steak to veggie ravioli all were excellent. Plus a great historic location with super service to boot…We will be back!
So good. Beet crostini and burrata apps were amazing. Service great. No complaints!
Great historic building and great property in general. The outdoor seating area was wonderful. I think they have an opportunity to do more with their menu both food and beverage. The food we ordered was good but I think they would be better served if they upgraded the options.
Staff was friendly and accommodating with our request to sit outside. Great food and service.
We love the Tavern at the Sun Inn, both outside dining and inside dining upstairs at the bar and dining room. We are always happy with the fresh farm-to-table ingredients, and the lobster roll, called the peasant roll, is always delicious.
Delicious and fresh. Great service. Excellent environment.
Everything was wonderful, the staff, the food and the live music was great
Ashlee is the absolute best!!! She has been our server several times at this point and is always the best!!!
Nice bar. Food was ok bar food. Nothing spectacular. Flat bread came out cold. Much better restaurants in area to spend money
Dined in the courtyard. It was wonderful. Our server Scotty was fantastic!
The history of the Sun Inn gives one the opportunity to reflect on those who came before.
Love this place! Try the Peasant Roll! Also, the owners are so nice and accommodating!
What a beautiful historic Inn! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. This place holds many memories for us and it certainly didn't disappoint!
Scotty our waiter was amazing. So accommodating and great personality!
The perfect meal. Ate outdoors on the patio. Steak and duck were cooked to perfection. Never a bad experience here!
Very pleasant meal, blackened cod was delicious.
We started our evening with tastings from Christmas City Distillery with no rush to be seated. Made a few purchases!
Drink orders came in a timely manner .
Appetizer of CheeseWheel was Devine.
Salads were delicious
Main course a culinary delete.
A lovely meal in a historic setting with excellent service. A simple, unpretentious menu. Duck breast was excellent. As was blueberry bread pudding desert.
What a wonderful historical restaurant where President George Washington dined!! Food was amazing and our server was excellent he knew all the history surrounding the restaurant and town! Highly recommend!
We live a few blocks away and always enjoy the unique ambience in the historic Sun Inn, dating back to Revolutionary War I
Indoor and outdoor seating are great, each with its own distinct vibe.
Specialty drinks provide authentic tie-in with heritage theme and are delish and generous.
Due to Pennsylvania’s restaurant restrictions, they currently have a streamlined menu which makes service faster while maintaining high quality.
We’ve enjoyed couples nights and birthday parties, all creating special memories:)
