Took advantage of a half price deal on food (but then blew the savings on whisky!). Oysters were very good. I thought my fillet was a little small for the regular price of £35 but since I only paid half, I can't complain. My colleagues had a rack of lamb and a sirloin, which they both enjoyed. The wine list isn't extensive but it is good enough and not over priced. The service was friendly and attentive. All in all I would recommend this place as a good venue for a quiet meal and I will be back in future no doubt.
Went for dinner with a friend, what a find. Will certainly re-visit for lunch. Great space between tables so good for a private conversation.
We went for the evening meal. There was very little steak available to order already at 7pm. The steak was requested rare but came medium/well done. The medium rare steak was similarly over cooked. We were not charged for either steak. At the start of the meal we had the draught Pilsner Urquell which had gone off. In both cases the staff were excellent. The deserts were good.
Perhaps a hidden gem? Lively enough to be interesting; quiet enough to be able to talk and be heard; good food ; great staff
It was fairly empty only us and one more table in the whole restaurant. Being in the middle of the City of London I expected many more people in the restaurant. Because it was quiet the servers were all over us, a bit too much for my liking. I would have preferred a little more space. We had oysters for starters and I have to say the oysters were not that fresh. The waitress came to take our order saying we have one burger left, 3 rib eye steaks, no fillet. There were four of us, so maybe we should all share the last burger left! I didn't expect a restaurant in the middle of the city to run out of food! The desert menu was a little boring as well. I ended up ordering a cheese board as the sweets menu did not excite me and I have to say the cheese board was also a bit boring, no blue cheese, just 3 tiny pieces of various Cheddars. I had ordered some ice for the table and considering there were only two tables in the whole restaurant I had to remind the waiter that we were waiting for some ice. We were never once asked if everything was OK with our meal/order. I certainly won't be rushing back to this restaurant any time soon!
I had not heard of this restaurant before I saw it on Opentable and I am glad I found it, as the place is definitely one I would go back to. It is ideal for business meals because the food is good and served at a desirable pace, the service was just attentive enough and the ambiance is nice and it is not too loud in there.
Fantastic food and service, would definitely recommend.
We wanted to book for a Tuesday night. The latest table available was 6:30pm so we booked that, and bust a gut to get there so early after work. When we got there, the restaurant had only a couple of tables occupied so I don't know why a later table wasn't available. You get there and they take your coatbefore you go down to the restaurant. The ambience of the basement is nice - lots of light and mirrors so not dark and dingy as basements can be. Traditional British/French style. They seated the few tables they had apart so you had a lot of privacy which was nice though there were so few customers that I felt we had to try not to talk to loudly so as not to disturb other people as there was absolutely no background hubbub of conversation that you would normally have at a restaurant. There was some background music which was appropriate to the ambience. The service was very good. The menu and drinks menu was limited in quantity and variety - the wine list was the only drinks list and when I asked about soft drinks it was just standard fruit juices or mixers. They did happily provide tap water and sparkling though. For a steak restaurant, with a very limited menu, it was ridiculous that both the sirloin and rib eye were off the menu leaving only the cheapest or most expensive cuts of steak. Also the "mains" were not mains at all, you needed to add 2 sides to make a complete main course. One of us had the gnocchi main on its own and it was like a large starter - he was still starving after that. The food was very tasty however. As a bread fan, I thought the appetiser board of homemade breads was particularly good and came with 2 interesting tapenades. The garden salad however was just a few curly leaves and 3 or 4 thin slices of radish. So 4 of us had 2 courses with the necessary sides (and 1 had 3 courses) and with drinks and service it came to £30pp, that was with the 50% off food offer. So an OK price with the offer but definitely would not pay full price.
Great steak and a really nice setting! Another opentable gem! Many thanks
We ate here with a 50% off. Wouldn't have been able to justify paying full price but it is rather fancy. Very quiet - we had a table Monday Eve at 7ish and there were only a few other diners. Tried my first ever oyster here and enjoyed! Steak and fish were both also great as was the wine. Shared a dessert as we were too full but couldn't resist!
Good food and service. Based in the London Capital Club, it has the ambience of a classic old gentlemen's club. For some this would be a plus, but for us it lacked a bit in atmosphere. Very good value for money though, with the 50% off Opentable deal.
One of the best steak I ever had in my life. It's great value with the 50% off offers.
Everything was amazing apart from the dessert. As none of us consume alcohol, we found the vanilla ice-cream tasted extremely odd. I checked with waiter but was told that it's non-alcoholic. We sent it back and insist the chef to taste and eventually confirmed that it does taste alcohol and got them taken off the bill.
Service was attentive, steak was amazing, just a slight disappointment that some choice of cut already out at our 1800 dinner booking. and of cos the unfortunate odd tasting ice-cream.
Food was ok needs improvement with better dishes and enhancement.
Private classic dining experience, the service was fantastic really good service skills of the both ladies.
The gin and tonic was the best.
They kindly surprised us with a birthday cake that was a very nice touch very much appreciated.
We would go back.
tavern steak and oyster has been my first choice for quiet dining with quality service. The greatest part is it does 50% off with opentable on Friday 🤗
I came at the right season so their fin de Clair oysters were large, fresh and succulent.
I also like their coupling of roasted bone marrow with any steak (it gives the steak some extra lush)
I m disappointed with their olives starter to share, which were too salty, and their apple and quince crumble, which was totally underdone.
Good restaurant shame it’s completely empty
We used the 50% off offer, so it was good value, but overall I wasn't very impressed. Most of the steaks, one of the table plates and the daily special were not available, we were told they'd had a busy lunch service (we were there at 6pm). Service was very friendly and quick, which is should have been as the restaurant was almost empty. The food was good for the price we paid but I would not have been happy paying full price when there are so many other better steakhouses around.
Great food, service and value. Would certainly go back.
Great value @ 50% off. Pretty much had the restaurant to ourselves.
Great food, lovely and attentive staff! Great value for Money. I went with my sister for her last minute pre-birthday meal. The food was delicious and they were offering 50% off the food.
It was excellent, I will gladly return again and again
Good food but not a lot of atmosphere when we dined.
The current "celebrity chef" menu seems a little expensive, certainly compared to the previous menu , and especially if the celebrity is not there on the day you visit. Very competent food culled from a range of well known restaurants across London , which presumably enjoy the oversight of the same executive chef. Great attention from the staff who are trying really hard. Atmosphere somewhat lacking as the restaurant is not attracting enough of a lunchtime crowd. Perhaps it will become more popular. Will go back if only to try the dishes from the Ivy, which I haven`t eaten at the Ivy.
Absolutely lovely food in a great environment. The service was polite and friendly. Food was good value.
We went for a dinner after work and the food and service was very good. The restaurant has a relaxed but profeasional style and we had a very nice time.
Good spot for lunch or dinner. A little (too) quiet, at least for now.
With some of the offers this restaurant offers exceptional value with very good food and service
Tavern is nestled beneath a private club which makes it fun to discover. I've never tasted such delicious leeks - or root vegetables - or a baked alaska. Really impressed with the food.
Firstly the calamari was good. My wife's chicken and tarragon pie was nice. My steak however was awful. Sent it back once because it had only been cooked on one side! When it came back it was basically raw, hadn't been rested and smelt and tasted horrendous. Managed two mouthfuls but couldn't eat anymore. Considering this place has 'steak' in the name, this was the worst steak I've ever eaten out. Did take it off the bill though.
Perfect place for a business lunch or meal with friends - so that you can catch up and enjoy lovely food with perfect service!
Still new restaurant . it is too early to judge. if you really do not like too much crowd and drunk shouting people i would say OK place. they need more time .. decor could me more restaurant .. lighting like from argos clearance !
There were only three cuts of steak on the menu. when you say steak i was expecting more but not complaining !
Very tasty food, excellent service and ambiance and a bargain with the 50% offer.
Really quite serious food and an accessible wine list. Quiet on the evening we were there but expect its lunch trade would be brisk. Enjoyable.
The service from the manager on the night was incredible. Really made the evening stand out on a foundation of great food and fantastic beer selection. Flat iron steak was perfect. What an ambience too with a great music selection!
This, my second visit, was even better than the first! Exceptional value in elegant surroundings. Wonderful tasty menu.
The setting is lovely, very nicely done. We arrived early but it wasn't a problem and we were sat straight away. The service is fantastic and Vlad who looked after us was very knowledgeable and attentive. The food was good and it was a very nice place to spend the night.
Excellent staff! Enjoyable lunch had by all.
Really rather a posh experience with a coat check and hairspray in the loos! Great food, not huge portions so great for those watching their weight. Well presented dishes. Incredible value in glamourous old fashioned environs if you think you could pay similar money to sit in an echoey Pizza Express and be screamed at by kids. I'll return.
Excellent service, knowledgeable staff. Varied menu, seasonal ingriedients. An enjoyable evening.
Nice ambience and food was very good, especially if you take advantage of the opening offer. Will definitely be back.
Brilliant night; food, drinks and service were all top notch. The restaurant is lovely as well, white table cloths and candles. Great gin selection. 50% off offer is not to be missed!
