Taverna - Wilmington
This was our second visit, service, food quality and ambiance all very good. For being such a big space it still feels intimate in the booths. My only suggestion would be to tone down the volume of the music.
Third excellent meal at Taverna. The menu has many entrees to choose from all of which have been winners. My chicken dish was perfectly cooked with moist chicken, light delicious sauce, broccoli rabe and mushrooms. The portions are generous. The calamari was lightly battered and fried to a beautiful crispness on a bed of delectable sauce. The dessert made an exquisite end to my meal. Our server, Maxwell, was attentive and very well informed about the menu. He made suggestions and answered questions professionally and knowledgeably. Everyone who works at Taverna seems happy and hard working. Keep up the great work. Can’t wait to eat there again!
This was our second visit to Taverna. The service was terrific. Our server Noah was very attentive and responsive, and he was very ably assisted by two or three others. A first rate example of teamwork. We had three appetizers: calimari, artichoke and pan fried peppers, all delicious. As main courses (there were 4 of us), we had the Taverna and Mediterranean salads, which were good, and the sausage rigatoni. While the rigatoni was good and piping hot (also a good thing), it had way too much pasta and not enough sausage. We just have not been particularly moved by the ambience. Nothing special about it. Plus, for our entire two-hour dinner, we were near freezing. (We were in the back room.) We will return, because the combination of the outstanding service and the great appetizers (as well as a GREAT beer selection!) provided good value.
Very institutional. Food was average. Bread was terrible.
We dined on a Friday evening with an 8 pm reservation for 2. Our table was not ready, waited 10 minutes and the host staff attempted to seat another party w/o a reservation before us...that was not acceptable nor tolerated. The host staff needs to be more attentive to reservations. Once seated we waited another 5 minutes for a menu, why can't the host staff give us a menu when seated? We were seated in the back room.
Our order was not taken for another 15 minutes. We ordered a nice bottle of wine #74, and they tried to give us a less expensive bottle while not telling us they substituted another wine. Thank goodness we were paying attention and caught the mistake, but the server needed to check with the bartender that they had presented the incorrect wine. The wine was a bit too young for a Rosso.
The table bread was fine with a good crumb but the crust was not as thick as we would like. The dipping sauce was tasteless and needed salt. The appetizer should not be allowed to be called "meatballs." They were more like fried dough balls, not much meat at all. The sauce was good though.
We then waited another 45 minutes to get our entree, simply Chicken Parm and the Sausage and Rigatoni. Both were good, but the rigatoni was not hot. The red sauce was good.
Overall, we would give Taverna a B. The noise level was extremely loud, making it difficult to hear each other. The music could be lowered, this is not a club atmosphere taking note of the clientele. Most seemed like they just wanted a peaceful dining experience.
Management has some issues to get lined-out with the kitchen, wait-staff and host-staff. The wait-staff was hustling and eventually apologetic for the delay in service. We may try it again in several months.
Loud, with mediocre, commercial food but decent service. Probably won’t return quickly. Surprisingly not representative of the Platinum Group.
Great as usual
Good food and vibrant atmosphere. Wait team was excellent and made good reservations.
Very impressed with menu, food is always delish! Ahi tuna salad is fresh and refreshing. One of the girls had a Marguerite pizza, thin , crisp and delicious, another had a “killer” grilled cheese with the most delicious crisp French fries . . . Will definitely be back!
Casey was personable and attentive. Met friends, we had not seen each other for a while, we were not rushed in and out. Very pleasant afternoon.
Actually we were a bit disappointed. We were looking forward to some rustic Italian - like chicken cutlet and broccoli rabe on hard Italian bread or some type of hearty sandwich - Spezzato - something like that. What we had was very good, but it seemed there was a big vacant spot for anything hand-held besides pizza. I did get the pizza and it was good - but not $15 good. We are on the fence I guess. Our service was outstanding. Also - the Italian bread from Hoboken - too soft. The crust MUST be harder!! Sorry, but I think all my disappointments are valid and disclosed only because you asked.
Had an enjoyable dinner. The servers were very knowledgeable of the menu. The free range chicken s
Not just another Italian restaurant! We are so thrilled with Taverna and know we'll be frequent visitors.
Three of us made reservation and went for dinner to Taverna, this week. What a terrific addition to N. Wilmington's dining!
Ambiance is great! Feels like a tavern in an Italian village (except the very streamlined bar).
My Chicken, Mushroom and Spinach Ravioli was the best ever! I still have it in my taste buds memory! Son was lusting for Spaghetti, Sausage and Red Sauce and he was delighted. The special of the day was their wonderful Lasagne, which my hub ordered - having been impressed with it previously. No room for dessert/coffee and plenty to bring home for next day's lunch. Reasonable prices, great food and friendly atmosphere, so we will be back frequently. One word of advice, do make a reservation. We tried to eat there on Saturday but were told there would be a 40 minute wait. I can see why!
Amazing service from the door in and out. Food was delicious service Amazing. James our server was the Greatest.
We enjoyed our dinners. The service was exceptional. My wife enjoyed the spinach ricotta agnolotti and I had the rigatoni with meatballs special on Saturday. Our server was very attentive. The only complaint is that it was freezing. The excuse was “a c problem that will be fixed next week”. Not much of an excuse when it was almost too cold to enjoy the food.
Friends and I went to dinner on a Friday night at 7:30. Drinks and appetizers were great and came in a timely manner. For dinner 2 friends ordered pasta dishes and said they we delicious. Myself and a friend ordered the coal fired pizza. Hers came out perfect. However mine came under cooked. The manager was nice enough to make me a new pizza. When I received the second pizza it still wasn’t done. I asked for it to be put in the for a few minutes longer. By this time my friends finished their dinner. The third time I received my pizza it look cooked however it still wasn’t completely done. By this time I was so hungry I just ate it. I will try this restaurant again because but try the past instead.
We had a few pasta dishes and thought there wasn’t enough meat in the dishes that included meat. The service was good. The restaurant was clean but the floors are very slippery.
I had a wonderful experience a Taverna - Wilmington. The decor is lovely, the food and the service excellent. I would recommend the fried calamari as appetizers and the range-free chicken as a main meal. My son had the chicken parmigiana and was equally pleased. A nice touch was the bread and olive oil/tomato sauce dip while we waited for our appetizer, at no charge! At the end of the day, the staff wants to please you, so do not hesitate to ask questions and make comments if you are not satisfied. They really want you to be happy with your dining experience. Taverna has become my go-to Italian restaurant in north Wilmington.
This was the first time my wife and I ate here but it won't be the last.
Food was scrumptious! Waitress was very friendly with an excellent service!
Great waitress good food nice new clean restaurant
First time visiting - Taverna, however having dined at RedFire, Eclipse, Capers & Lemons we were confident we were in good hands. Sampled the veal meatballs in cheesy polenta, the grilled artichokes (a reason by itself to go back!), and the clams white as appetizers. Absolutely on point - shared a bottle of wine that was priced fairly, and then split the mushroom wood fired Neapolitan style pizza that was light, bright and delicious. We’ll be back to sample the rest of this fun menu in this warm and inviting space. #DoneRight
4th time there. Food is very good. Ricotta appetizer is excellent, Caesar salad is delicious. Found that they don’t salt their food too much so sometimes sat is needed but everything is fresh and good quality. The sautéed spinach is amazing. We have had great service and our last server, Angel, was excellent and fun!
Excellent food, service and ambiance!
