temper City Ratings and Reviews
Booked in for my wifes birthday, and we had a fantastic evening. The food was amazing, drinks list was superb, and the staff could not possibly have been better! They even came over and sang happy birthday to my wife and gave her a dessert. Thye steak was perfect, the Thali plates so filling and delicious. I cannot thank all of the staff at Temper enough for making the evening absolutely perfect for us. Keep up the great work!
Business lunch for 6 people. We had a booth so it was not too noisy to chat. Our waitress ordered for the table and did a really good job. She did not over order but sent us all the best dishes. We had a naked Thali plate each and shared the currys. Dry goat was delicious, as were the pork and beef ribs. Actually.. it was all delicious and a nice change for a business lunch. If you only order one dish - make it the Octopus starter! Spicy but melts in your mouth. Would recommend for sure but will probably regret it when I cannot get a reservation next time.
From start to finish it was just great. I’ve been to temper soho, so the bar was set high for the food and this wasn’t a disappointment.
The service was super, knowledgeable about the menu and options, we asked to be moved as we were by the door and it was a cold evening... this was done swiftly and without hassle.
The food was bloody delicious! I had the dry goat thali. all in after a big meal with wine it was £36pp with service. It should be busier than it was, it deserves to be, I guess being a Saturday and the city it’s quieter but I couldn’t recommend it enough. And I will be spreading the word about such a wonderful place to go for a meal.
Ahh and lastly, the playlist was awesome!
Full disclosure: I had a less than stellar experience at the restaurant a few days beforehand, but wanted to give it another go. The restaurant and Neil (owner and chef - I have never been contacted by an owner or chef, he really cares) went out of their way to rectify the situation and have been more than generous. They believe in this restaurant and was sure I'd have a better experience next time. And I can confidently say I did!
The wine list is a good size - sufficient options for a buff, but not daunting. It is also neatly organised by flavour profile. Each time we've had excellent wine that exceeded what you get at that price point in other London restaurants. Hence, if you want to pick the cheapest or most expensive wine you can do so with assurance that the sommelier has already made a good selection for you by picking the list.
We were six people and got the full food experience by ordering a range of dishes and sharing freely. The staff recommend a thali (a plate full of sauces, spices, bread and other goodies to be enjoyed with your mains) each and you should listen. The flavours on your thali plate will enhance the food and you are in control.
During your meal you are always confronted (and comforted) with the sight and smell of the fire. Surprisingly the menu is not dominate or limited by this. If you are like me, that is where you will find most enjoyment: Smoked duck masala, the smoked rib (tender beyond belief) and the spiced (juicy!) chicken were excellent and worth returning for.
Other favourites: The octopus was soft and flavourful, Korean haggis a unique concept, the simplistic burrata, lime and jalapeno is a perfect pairing, and for main the recommended dry goat curry met the high expectations they set.
To conclude, this restaurant is an excellent addition to the area around Bank. The space can work as a business lunch, mid-week dinner or dinner for big groups. I'll be back.
BTW they are also G&T experts
Visited Temper City on a relatively quiet Monday evening.
We shared starters of mutton roll and Korean haggis; both really tasty and the haggis has a good level of spice.
For mains we both chose thali, me duck and the fella chicken; once again both sooooo good!
Shared a dessert of chocolate and tumeric cheesecake (?), great!!
Fabulous wine list although I stuck to the equally fabulous gin list.
Staff are great, friendly and fun
Buzzing atmosphere with super friendly staff. Such amazing flavours, especially the goat!! The chicken dish in the Thali was the only thing lacking flavour but maybe that’s because the rest was soooo delicious! Loved it will definitely return!
Simply this: awesome food in an awesome location with awesome staff. Mr Rankins slow cooked/smoked food take on Asian curries is first class and everything we ate was amazing. Also, having seats at the bar so we could watch the food being prepared and cooked was such a good experience. Will definitely be returning ASAP.
Had a great experience at Temper City with 4 friends.
The service was excellent from the start and our server was both attentive and knowledgeable.
The menu is great for sharing in such groups, our shared starters were super, the squid pakora was particularly sensational.
We all tried different thali plates for mains and they were all of the same high standards the starters had set.
Will definitely be coming back and at £50 a head for drinks, two courses and loads more to share it’s definitely worth it.
Really enjoyed this alternative Indian cuisine who specialises in their duck too! Creative menu and modern decors in the restaurant. The toilets are also nice and clean. The food is inventive and fun to eat. The staff are friendly. Only thing is although their drinks are lovely, the cocktails are quite pricey. The music was quite loud too. Nevertheless I would still return for a fun business lunch!
We had been to temper in Soho and were looking forward to returning. We were very surprised to find that the menu isn't the same and in reality quite disappointed. We're not sure why a grill would attempt to do Indian curries, when there are so many better options for that in London. Their skewers however were stunning. Do go and order only from the grill or go to the Soho branch. If you want curry go to Tooting or other.
Hidden in a city backstreet this Indian style barbecued gem from the amazing Neil rankin won't stay hidden for long... loved the American bar style seating (perfect if you're on your own) to the cosy booths for groups of friends, the food is delicious, the drinks list long (2 full pages of gins!) and the service outstanding... I'll definitely be back for more!
