*We do the business in lunch time and dinner time.
Way overpriced mediocrity! I would not go back here.
Felt like I was in Japan!
Incredible service. Great quality food! Pricey but worth it for authentic tempura.
Dinner at Tempura Endo is outstanding, authentic and memorable! I would recommend sitting at the tempura counter and count the evening as tempura theater as well.
I am very dissatisfied with my experience. The place was empty, unromantic, and ordinary food. It is very expensive by Beverly Hills standards.
We are so glad to choose this petite cuisine for my daughter’s birthday celebration. Moreover, I shared the information to my friend’s group right away and one of them happened to be in Kyoto and booked a table for a very unforgettable dinner too! Surely this is the first pick I come next time in LA.
Excellent tempura and great service. I've been to Japan and this is as good, maybe even better, than what is in Japan
never worth the cost
An authentic Japanese experience.
For what we spent, I was expecting WAY more. This place is a tasting menu only. We selected their priciest option at $280 a person. It was lacking in almost all areas.
1) the atmosphere was so quite and, for lack of a better word, boring. The chef provided zero conversation or entertainment.
2) the omasake counter is small. Like cramped, elbow-to-elbow small.
3) this place is 100% authentic. It’s like you’re taking a mini trip to Japan for a few hours, so you’re paying for the experience - not the food. As a “foodie,” I was disappointed.
4) the servers themselves were very attentive and nice. I always had everything I needed or requested.
Overall, I wouldn’t come back. There are way too many good Japanese restaurants in the are that are, in my opinion, so much better.
This is perfect place to entertain VIP customers or best friend’s birthday.
I had such an unforgettable experience of Japanese Tempura Cuisine.
Incredibly overpriced. Only high priced options and very small portions
There are tempura restaurants worth this kind of money, like Tempura Matsui in nyc or Tempura Kondo in Tokyo. But the quality of the food is just not as good here. And the presentation is lacking, starting with the pre-packaged moist towelettes to start the meal. That is just unacceptable at a $300-$400 per person restaurant.
Deliciously perfect and as close to our experience in Japan as possible!
The food was great. Although it is on the pricer end, the portion is quite generous for what is paying for. I wish they do lunches as well. Having too much fried food as dinner can be overwhelming. Delicious, but overwhelming nonetheless.
Only thieves restaurant serves real Tempura. In LA.
They cook lots of different kind of Tempura just in front of you one by one. I know this restaurant in Kyoto, Japan that is very famous. You will tell little Kyoto atmosphere. Price is little expensive though.... but it was worth it. Service is great !
If you would like to experience what is the art of Tempura in authentic, a classy, yet relaxed ambiance, Endo is the place outside of Japan...Very creative, nouvelle Tempura cuisine! A bit Pricey? No. I would say, it is the best value for such a wonderful taste, high-quality ingredients, the very skilled Tempura chef who is perfecting each piece of Tempura, one by one before your eyes!
2nd time I've been there, and this time was much better than the first. I would highly recommend getting there after 9 pm so that you can order a la carte. Just get the highlights without the filler. For example, I got the appetizers and sashimi, which is a fantastic start. But you can skip the corn and the termpura rice dishs which comes with the set menu, because it's too much. Instead, make sure you get the conger eel, taro truffle and other goodies. And pickled veggies are great to snack on between tempura courses!
The service was nice and the experience was something we have had trouble finding in Southern California since experiencing it in Japan. I took my husband here for his birthday. He was thrilled. I was slightly disappointed. I had read previous reviews and had my hopes set for things like our names being printed on the menu and a tea ceremony. Neither of these extra touches are included anymore. We sat at the bar style seating and were patiently and quietly waited on. The chef cooked in front of us with brief descriptions of what we were eating. The food was undeniably delicious. There were two salts as opposed to other reviews which mentioned 5 salts. Most of the food didn't require either so it was not a huge loss. We enjoyed every bite. The only downside was the lack of the tea ceremony to round out the meal. I probably wouldn't have minded as much if the price had been reduced in any way to account for the reduced experience. At more than $700 for two people it seems a little bit of a sting to not leave with a full night's experience rather than just a meal.
I should note that the staff really made an extra effort for my husbands birthday and gave him a token gift with an extra dessert which was greatly appreciated. If i hadn't had expectations I wouldn't have been disappointed. In short, the food is amazing and the price is high.
Incredible place with truly Japanese food and incredible service.
Be prepared!! Is not cheap but it is really worth it!!
Great experience! Rebuild my understanding of tempura!
Real tempura in LA! Well executed. Cheaper than a plane ticket to Tokyo.
Impeccable food and service. We just returned from Japan and dined there for my bday. It reminded us of Japan, but even better- we could understand everything. Will certainly return. Highly recommend.
It was so delicious and authentic Japanese style of tempura restaurant. The service was also outstanding. It’s definitely for a special occasion and it’s a quite atmosphere, almost like going to a theater. What you watch is what the chef is doing for you, and you will talk about its taste with whom you are with instead of talking about something else while eating. For sure. The chef, whose name is Satoshi, makes food in front of you, and serve it immediately after he makes. Just try it if you would like to experience the authentic Japanese zen luxury experience.
Amazing place. Absolutely worth it, one of the most authentic Japanese experiences I have ever seen in America.
The staff, ambiance and food truly made me feel like I was in Kyoto. Kimi-San was exceptional and made the dining experience that much better! Domo arigato!
Not like Kyoto.
The food, presentation and service is exquisite. Dining taken up to the next level. An experience to celebrate the specialist of occasions
This tempura restaurant was wonderful and authentic with excellent ingredients and high quality! The food was great !!! the atmosphere and service reminded me of Japan too. The portions were small but I was very full by the end of the $200 tasting. The price was high for the amount of food but I guess this is expected at this type of restaurant and location.
This was a last moment opportunity to celebrate a dear foodie friends’ birthday.
The food was Amazing.
Service was so on point it was insane.
The chef, a personality to be with.
The atmosphere was perfect for the evening.
I will do this again just for My Birthday.
Had a lovely time and enjoyed the meal immensely. Each course was impeccably prepares and the service was top notch. The chef paced the experience perfectly and it was lovely interacting with him. The wait staff were all elegant women dressed in kimonos and helped explain which one of the seasonings we should use. They offered several flavored salts so it can be overwhelming. Would try this at least once!
Amazing authentic tempura. Great experience. Great food.
I made the reservation for my husband's 40th birthday and I am so glad I did. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. They even gave him a little birthday gift with a signed card and an extra dessert with a candle, which was completely unexpected and special. Yes, the restaurant is expensive, but we found it to be worth every penny and worth the drive up from Orange County. We had an amazing experience and my husband thoroughly enjoyed an incredible birthday meal. I highly, highly recommend this place, especially for a special occasion.
We wanted a light meal, which they do not offer. They only have three choices, omikase menus at $180, $240, and $280 per person not including drinks or tip. Having gotten over our sticker shock we enjoyed the experience and the staff was lovely. Just not what we expected or wanted.
Amazing and unique dining experience.
For the price, I felt the service and food can be improved.
Jonathon Gold was right, everything the chef touches turns to gold. This was one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's not just a meal it's an experience.
Overpriced tempura worse then $5 tempura at the mall.
We were splurging with windfall money, and went with the "glutton option," two $280 seasonal omakase menus. The Kyoto-style restaurant is beautiful, and the wait staff are dressed in kimono. Some of the more memorable bites include red and yellow peppers jellied in aspic, seared wagyu beef, lobster tail, Japanese abalone, generous slices of some of the most amazing fatty fish belly sashimi (not just tuna), soba noodles in broth with a raft of fried shrimp pieces, and a variety of delicately fried tempura bites served on single plates. The tempura included scallops stuffed with caviar, crab claw, vegetables, super creamy tofu, and shrimp. Each place setting had five dishes with specialty salt to adjust the seasoning on each bite - Yuzu, rice powder, matcha tea, pepper, and truffle.
Everything was delicious, but by the time the final courses were presented (ice cream AND sweet potato flambé AND a mochi wrapped in origami paper) we were almost too full to enjoy them. ALMOST.
