Hats off to the chef (s) at Thatcher & Rye for an amazing dinner on our 16th wedding anniversary. We ordered the oysters, shishito peppers, bass, and short ribs and they were all amazing. You do have to order everything up front for some reason which I didn’t like as I probably would’ve ordered a second due to the small sizes of the first (which you don’t know until you get them), but it left enough room to go to get local ice cream afterwards. The service was good between two waiters/helpers and I really like places that use teamwork with a a good attitude helping each other which benefits the customers instead of hogging the table for tip mentality which makes the customer less served. The building is cool looking and cozy. We live close so always wanted to try this place on a special occasion.

Loved this restaurant! First time we visited, and we'll definitely return. We shared the shishito peppers and scallops first courses and had the ravioli and the beef for dinner. All dishes were fantastic. Our server, Paige, really made the meal even more enjoyable. She was personable, knowledgeable, and just plain fun! Highly recommend and can't wait to return.

What a wonderful experience! The food, especially the flavors, was outstanding. The wait staff was extremely professional but personable. The ambiance was lovely with beautiful decor, art and sound. It was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last. We’ll done all!

It was exactly what we expected. Every course we ordered was absolutely delicious. The service was also great, somewhat hands off, but there almost immediately for anything needed.

The ham was a bit salty, but, overall, the food was excellent. The barbecue short rib could not have been any more tender or flavorful. The lasagne was terrific and the salad was the freshest I’ve ever had without picking it myself from a garden. Add to that the excellent service provided by Conner and I don’t think there could have been a better dinner for a date. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on returning again soon.

Noisy, but service was exceptional! Overall, the food was good. However, the orecchiette pasta’s sauce was too overwhelming and not good. Also, the toffee cake was a little on the dry side. The flavors though, were spot on. It’s on the pricey side (we spent around $400 for a party of 4) but it was worth the price. You can tell all ingredients used were the best available. My only recommendation is to fix the acoustics. The noise level was high. I couldn’t hear the person next to me.

Excellent meal. Service was top notch. All courses were delicious, with the scallop, ravioli, and pork chop really standing out. Very accommodating as we had a younger guest with us. We were fortunate enough to meet Chef Voltaggio who was very gracious during a busy dinner service.

What a lovely dining experience in every way. Magnificent food, delectable cocktails and desserts, and primo accommodating service. It was an energetic environment—just slightly too noisy. Enjoy diverse, well prepared fare. Worth the trip to Frederick, a charming historic town and just far enough from the DC area to feel like a worthy getaway.

Fabulous space - several different rooms each with a special mood. Ours was bright and spacious - no other diners right next to us - contrasting to many fancy restaurants in DC. Every dish was outstanding - served promptly and sequenced to our wishes. What we liked was that they were totally receptive to requests. Our waiter was friendly and available. We will return as often as we can - we’ll worth the 50 Mo it’s drive from DC!

Food overall was very good with appropriate portion sizes. There were several discrepancies between what sides/garnishes that were served compared to what was listed on the menu which did not bother us but could be problematic to other diners. We ordered the chocolate dessert and it was not to our tastes but the cheesecake was delicious. Our server was competent but we found several of the food runners to be more outgoing and friendly. Would dine here again.

T&R was a delight on a lovely Sunday July evening. We made reservations for the quaint outdoor courtyard and our table was in the direct sun; they gladly moved us to a shaded table. I love attention to detail and a small (stone or maybe marble) knife rest just added an extra touch of elegance to the place setting. The menu is small which I alway feel should mean great attention is given to each dish, and T&R's selections did not disappoint. We were thrilled with our experience. The "Green Salad" is such a modest name for beautiful wreath shaped greens, with a little fresh fennel, and light buttermilk dressing, just fantastic. I had the pork chop, definitely one of the tastiest I've ever ordered, and was enough for 2 meals. I am a pea fan so the seasoned pea mash-like side was right up my alley. My husband had the salmon. He loved it and both looked like works of art! For dessert, we had the Honeydew, that is a must-have, in my opinion, for a refreshing summer dessert. It is perfectly balanced sweet and sour, we just loved it! I had a Kyiv Mule, tear the mint and stir it in, so good! I just had to have a second! I also made a note of the vodka used so I will purchase next trip to the spirits store. Service was extremely attentive, pleasant, humorous, and lightning fast, wow. I can't think of one minus. T&R has gotten it all right!

Service was very good. Initially we were seated in back near open kitchen the volume from that area was incredibly high ( terrible). The hostess was very helpful and moved us immediately. Food was just ok. My husband was satisfied with his steak…the potatoes were gluey ( awful ) I had duck. The presentation was terrible, plate was poorly prepared colors were off and generally not appetizing. Duc was too thickly cut and not at all tasty. Very disappointed. We will not return

Fantastic atmosphere, incredible service, mostly-delicious food. The current scallop first course is a cold ceviche, just a heads up. The first-course burrata is incredible, so tasty! It's safe to say the second course(s) are all great. The third-course burger was a miss for me. The burger was dripping everywhere with a soaked bun...basically, a recipe for a stomach ache. Definitely couldn't eat more than half of it and there are a handful of places in Frederick that do it better. The drinks are solid, the wines are plentiful, and again you can't really ask for better outdoor seating or service. Paige is a definite value-add to Thacher and Rye. We will be back and I'll update the review at that time.

First time there since the restaurant changed from Volt to its current name. We got the bucatini, eggs Benedict, sausage and gravity and fries and truly enjoyed our meal. The service was also top notch. Would definitely go back.

My family of five, ages 16 -77, throughly enjoyed our gourmet meal. The menu choices were very varied and met the tastes of everyone. With one exception, my daughter, who is Vegan and gluten-free, found the menu limited for her. The service was attentive, but not hovering.

In T&R's former iteration as Volt, the food and service were superlative. In 2021, it reopened as Thacher and Rye. We went for the first time in April of 2021. The food and the service were good enough, not necessarily memorable as it was at Volt, but good enough that we decided to return for our wedding anniversary in June 2022. What a disappointment. The food was only passable (and at the prices asked, the food better be dang good!). Possibly the best offering was the Pork Rillettes; unfortunately, it was served with biscuits (biscuits?? instead of baguette?) that competed with and overpowered the flavor of the rillettes. Green Asparagus Salad was fair. Our entree was the chicken: Boring! Needed salt. My own chicken is a thousand times better. We had no desire for dessert. The servers wear jeans, not just jeans, but baggy, ill-fitting jeans with hiking boots. Really? Fancy building, fancy tables, expensive food--and baggy jeans?
