Once again we had a very nice meal in Thai City. We ate from the £16 early evening menu.
The choices for each course were very good and the portion size was also very good. The food was well presented and very tasty and the service was friendly and efficient.
We will definitely come here again and would recommend this restaurant to our friends.
We had a really nice meal at Thai City. We ate from the Early Bird menu and the food was very good and the portions were generous. We very much enjoyed our meal and will be coming back.
I've been there many times and I like the food and atmosphere in there . However , this time I was not very happy about the food , I think the quality of the food is going down , less flavour . I still like it. Staff are very nice~
The food was good, nothing to complain about but wasn’t the best thai food ive had.
The waiter tipped a full pint of freezing lager in my lap ruining an expensive suit and shoes and thought he was doing something special by replacing the lager he had just knocked over and then expected me to pay the 20% service. Lol. Never going there again.
Booked this restaurant for my Birthday meal before a concert in Old Street. Interesting place with unusual decor. Strange service too as not sure that English was native to the greeter.
The cocktails are nice but overly sweet. The food is very good actually but traditional Thai, not modern. Reminds me of Thai food from the 90s. When you have the likes of Busaba these days, it's hard to go backwards and eat old school Thai food.
Had a 20% discount applied and found the bill still very expensive for the type of restaurant. Portions were big so had loads of left overs.
Very strange place but not good and not bad. Couldn't recommend to a friend as I only recommend very good places and this was pretty average. Having said that, it's not disappointing.
Great value for a central midweek catch up. Very efficient service
The food was great! The duck was really nice. The service is also really good and I would certainly recommend this restaurant. Great value for money.
This a good, not too expensive, Thai restaurant just off Old Street. We went on a Friday night and it was busy. I asked for my curry to be spicy and it was - I thought it was delicious. Probably best for a group of friends of families.
Loved it and will come again
Great food, had three courses and all were delicious. Quick service too, would be ideal for a work lunch - all very reasonably priced too.
Excellent all round!
Was impressed how upon arriving they informed me of a discount as I booked with Opentable. I wasn't actually aware of this. Food was good and service was equally so.
Have to say the food is not as good as it used to be. I have to say i think it is overpriced for the area. the waiter was a little surly. Not at the top of my list.
Food order was wrong, no apologies offered, after pointed out the same dish was brought out again with a bit of added rice on the side. View from the window is dreadful, neighbourhood is not nice. Won't recommend. One positive thing was good cocktails but not sure you'd come for it to the Thai place? Overall, wasted evening and money
A good and classic menu, pared down considerably from a few years ago. Nice ambience, welcoming and friendly service. Will certainly be revisiting soon.
Great authentic food, as good as i've eaten in Thailand and the service was nice and friendly, I would definitely recommend Thai City as a place to eat.
I booked a table here to celebrate my 23rd birthday on a Sunday evening with 25 guests. I initially booked for 20 people but a few more arrived and the staff we're happy to add additional tables which was really kind.
The set menu's (A or B) we're very decent and very filling as they came with a lot of food, the majority of us enjoyed our food and the cocktails were sweet and strong. (Thai Green Curry was amazing!!!)
The interior is beautiful, very warm and has a nice cultured feel, staff are very kind and always cheerful.
Only downside was that I wasn't informed of the service charge when I made the booking. Other than that I had a great night and I'm happy I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday.
As always the food was amazing and arrived quickly. The staff very friendly and helpful. A great place to go!
While the food is very good, I'm concerned that they do not give you the 20% discount as advertised, unless you ask about it. For people who don't pay much attention to their bills, it appears to be a dishonest practice. Maybe it was just my experience the 2 times I've been here that it happened.
Food was very good
But the waiter who served us was very impatient & clearly was in a real rush (a Basil Fawlty type)
Service for poor ordered drinks took 10 mins for the waiter to come back and tells us one of the drinks wasn't available . Twenty five mins later we got our starters but still no drinks had to remind the waiter again. Half way through the meal my wife ordered a glass of wine we had to remind them 15 minutes later that we hadn't got the drink. Apparently the waiter forgot.
I used to love this restaurant but I think it's changed management since I was last there last year and what a shame because not only has it changed its name from "Thai Thai" to "Thai City" it's also clearly changed the chefs and the staff. The food used to be great now it's incredibly below par. Tom Yam soup was underwhelming, Singapore noodles were as spicy as a bowl of Rice Krispies and the cashew nut curry was lacking in spice and cashew nuts! I quizzed them on what was wrong with the dishes they said they could add some more chilli flakes in the kitchen but this is not how to cook Thai food - spices should be worked into a dish not just sprinkled on as last resort in the form of chilli flakes when sent back to the kitchen. I visited in February and like the previous couple of reviews below the restaurant was no more than +5c - the few people in the restaurant were wearing coats - this restaurant used to be busy - alas I think everyone is having the same experience. Charging almost £5 for bottled water is also not acceptable. I'm tempted to give this place 1 star but I have too many fond memories for what it used to be - I hope the place can improve before it's too late!
Good quality food, helpful friendly staff restaurant on the dark side. Overall good experience
Visited for a birthday - the food was very good, as it always is. I particularly enjoyed the satay chicken.
the offer of 20%off is poorly advertised. They forget to mention it is only applicable to food and you must order one starter and main each. Bad value and overaly priced.
Very disappointing. I took a friend there for the halal food but wish I had gone elsewhere. The starters were disappointing, calamari drenched in thick batter and oil, mixed platter starter the same - the corn cakes were particularly oily. The mains were equally disappointing with the meat tasting past its best, we chose beef as the safe option but even beef couldn't disguise the lack of freshness in each dish. Staff were so very annoying, you either got no one at your table or three people at once. Also, we felt that we couldn't pause for conversation, staff would come over to take our food and we had to say no, we've paused to speak for a minute if that's ok! Needless to say we couldn't wait to get out and have pudding somewhere more pleasant!
Even though they changed their menu ... Food is still very good and staff very friendly.
We booked a table and travelled over one hour to get to the restaurant on an extremely cold evening only to realise the restaurant was CLOSED yet opentable had allowed us to book and confirmed our booking. What's worse got sent an email asking to rate an experience. Open table obviously is not a reliable booking system and wasted my christmas eve
Pleasant food, we had an extremely good food offer. The room was very cold and service erratic
Food and service were both great. Would recommended for dinner with friends or a date.
The atmosphere was great, candle lit dinner. The food was ok, i've ordered the soft shell crab as my starter but it came out quite soggy but the pad thai was really good.
I was a little unsure after reading some of the recent reviews, as I haven't been to Thai Thai for a while, despite it being one of my favourite local Thai restaurants but I'm glad to say none of those problems existed.
The furniture has been updated, the service was attentive and with a smile, while the value of our tasty meal was fantastic for city prices.
Will pay them another visit soon, especially with the offer.
Beautiful food and lovely ambience, decoration and atmosphere, definitely recommended!
Food was cold. Looked really nice. Rice was warm. Thai curry was almost cold. Cold plates too. No smile with the service. Nice looking place but lacked passion.
Pleasant meal, hhad better but had worse.overall fine just not anything to rave about.wanted water with meal which cost over £5 for one.
It was handy for where we stayed and love Thai food.maybe we have been spoiled with other restaurants.
very enjoyable evening, food was perfect also helped to have 50% off the bill
I'd booked a deal with 50% off food if you had both a starter and a main course. We were in a bit of a hurry as we were off to an event nearby. Once sat and given menus we were left alone for 10 minutes, no-one gave us a drinks list or asked if we'd like a drink whilst choosing our food. So I just went for a glass of house red not knowing what else might be available. We had calamari - good, and gyoza - good. I had a mixed seafood stir fry which was nicely flavoured, but a little mean with the seafood - 2 squid tubes, 1 prawn, and 2 NZ mussels. My partner has one of the noodle dishes, I could tell he wasn't overwhelmed. We both finished our drinks mid way through, no-one noticed or asked if we'd like another (we weren't fussed enough to try to catch someone's eys). It took quite a while to attract attention to pay as the waiters were intent on clearing and setting tables. Bill with the 50% discount on the food, and a glass of wine and a bottle of Singha came to £31 including the 12.5% service. Not bad, but could be better!
The service is always great when I have been!
They make it worth while coming back!
Been here before when 40% off and it was great. To have 50% was added bonus!
Lovely food, attentive staff also.
Now would I pay full price, no and would go elsewhere in Stratford for same. But nevertheless it is my favourite in London when offer is on. Good cocktails too.
What I don't like is when they calculate 12.5% service charge on the full value then take 50% off food. I always ask them to remove and give them 50% of the total top value which I seem fair.
Thai City offers takeaway which you can order by calling the restaurant at 020 7490 5230.
