Thai Upon Thames
Lovely, tasty food with attentive staff. It was mid week so not busy and pleasantly quiet for a couples evening out.
Thai upon Thames is always excellent. On this trip we enjoyed the calamari, with super crisp batter, as well as chicken and papaya salad and Angus steak green curry. All delicious, great service, lovely restaurant.
Food was all delicious: light and flavoursome. Service was attentive but not annoying! A short walk over the bridge to Richmond so location is great.
The only down side was the amount of delivery drivers that were continually walking past the tables. The only reason for this is because of the quality of food being cooked. It`s a shame they could not collect take away food some other way as it is obviously an important part of ther income.
Food was lovely - restaurant was nice. Just disappointed by the customer experience by the waiter! He never smiled and wasn’t welcoming - he looked and attended to us pretty much like he didn’t want to be there.
Really good food in a modern setting.
Starters were so great we had to have more.
This was my first time at Thai Upon Thames since I wanted to try something different in the Richmond area. The restaurant was very nice and the food also good although a little bit more spicy than expected. However the menu was nice and with real authentic Thai food. Just be aware that it is a small place and it was a bit noisy with the other people in the restaurant but otherwise a nice experience, which I might consider again.
Thai upon Thames is very much our local restaurant and we eat here fairly regularly with family and friends. The food is excellent, with a good choice - some dishes are very spicy. The service is excellent and the staff very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend the restaurant, indeed I have sent many friends here.
Great as ever...the Massamun Roti is outstanding. Great venue for a bite before a game at Twickenham....cant recommend Thai Upon Thames highly enough
This is a local favourite of ours and it doesn’t disappoint. Tried the half chicken with papaya salad this time- light and delicious, with a good spice. Highly recommended.
Brilliant - as usual! We always meet for lunch, but ask for the evening menu as well as the lunch menu.
Great authentic Thai food and friendly service
Lovely authentic Thai food and great service will definitely return to this restaurant
Lunch with friends. Great food. Will definitely return.
Thai upon Thames is a real favourite of ours, we’ve been back a few times and never disappointed. Pleasant, small but not too small restaurant; quick service. The food is reliably tasty and decent portion sizes. You can go for one of the classic dishes, or sample something from their tasting menu. Overall a great independent restaurant to have close by.
Food was excellent and staff were smart, friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Really good value for the amount of food and drink we had. Set us up nicely for our walk to Twickenham Rugby ground which was only a 20 min fair paced walk away.
Met friends pre rugby - found on Open Table as love Thai. Food was excellent - it’s a little cramped in there but who cares. Food delicious - thank you and service prompt and friendly.
Will be back if there on match day again.
The food was wonderful and the service was very caring. Will definitely go back
This is a lovely little Thai restaurant with really good Thai food . Been coming here for a few years now and its consistently good . Try it , you wont be disappointed .
Thai calamari was really good. Giant prawns in the vermicelli hotpot. Duck spring rolls had good size pieces of meat and a nice sauce. A good meal overall and friendly service.
Warm welcome, authentic quality Thai food at reasonable prices, cosy restaurant. We'll be back!
Enjoyed the meal. Server wasn't warm and friendly but ensures food is delivered promptly
Always a delightful experience. Friendly staff, they'll go the extra mile and the food is amazing.
Came here for my birthday and had the king prawn hot pot which was delicious and filling. The food was spot on, spicy enough packed with flavour. Would definitely be coming back here and will recommend to friends as well.
Food was average at best. A nicely cooked pad Thai was rather dry. The curries unremarkable and the rice a little overcooked. The Som Tam was decent. The overall experience wasn't helped by the staff and ambiance. The room is quite narrow and people, incl waiters will bump into your table. The Asian waiter was the first Thai (?) I know that hardly smiles. Unfortunately he got the order wrong which he didn't repeat and there was no apology nor comment. The manager (?) handled it better.
Been here a few times - never disappoints. Excellent food wine and ambience. Friendly and attentive service
Great value and delicious Thai food. The usual favourites with an interesting set of specials too.
We went on a Friday evening and the restaurant was nice and busy. Very tasty thai food with nice service.
Lovely food lovely people, brilliant venue for the Rugby..
Not the first time here nor the last. The food was really good, fresh, not out of a freezer. I don't know if it is authentc but nor do I care. I want a good flavoursome spicey meal.
Wine list pretty elementary but I probably should'nt be drinking wine with this food.
Service is simple but willing
Six of us went here before rugby at Twickenham; arrived a little early - before they were actually open - but friendly greeting followed by timely service of excellent Thai food. Service was very good and the selection of starters we had were very tasty indeed.
My cousins had been on a European visit, over from Canada, and this was their last night. They were tired, so I wanted somewhere local but good to take them for their last meal on European soil. I had been to Thai Upon Thames sometime in the last century, when in another incarnation of Thai Pinn and had enjoyed it very much. This time, I enjoyed it for its quiet, cosy atmosphere: the lighting is warm, the tables beautifully appointed with silk embroidered cotton runners, the food beautifully presented. The waitress was a little unsmiling, but she might just have been shy. The waiter who brought us the bill was more friendly. The food itself, while beautiful to look at, was not the best Thai food I've ever had in my life; the broccoli in oyster sauce was a little bald and boiled-looking, the sauce very watery, but my sweet and sour pork was perfectly decent. My cousins are vegetarian, so one had Pad Thai with Tofu, while the other had some sort of mushroom dish. Both of them pronounced the food 'yummy'. The are in their 20s. I am a jaded 55. So, judge for yourselves. However, the evening was most enjoyable and I would go back again...Oh! And you do get given prawn crackers upon arrival, a mixture of those delicious hard pink ones and the more crisp blotting paper-style ones that melt on the follicles of your tongue in a pleasing sort of way. For my taste, there were too many of the latter and far too few of the former. But that's just me.
We were happily surprised. When we arrived to the restaurant and saw it empty at 1:00 PM on a Saturday, I had my doubts. But the food was very good. We ordered 4 different types to share. All equally good. We ended up asking for 2 more or the ones we like best. Service was polite and good. The place looked clean and neat. I will def go back! :)
Highly recommend this friendly local restaurant. Fantastic food, the calamari was the lightest batter I've had, the prawn toasts looked heavy but were also delicious and full of prawns. Spicy Thai green curry and tasty pad Thai. Pleasant ambience and friendly service. Would go back.
This time was dinner for 5 and as usual Thai Upon Thames never disappoint us!
The place is not so big, hence would suggest to book in advance for larger groups.
The food as expected was delicious, champions of the night the Pad Thai with Jumbo Prawns and the Chicken with chilli and basil. Lovely dessert : banana fritter with vanilla ice cream. Absolutely ,good value for money .
The "old staff members"as always friendly and efficient , only a simple recommendation to the manager for the future : supervise the activity of "new staff members" in order to not disappoint the regular and the new customers.
Staff at the restaurant were very welcoming and atmosphere was peaceful.
Food was excellent! As a vegetarian it was great to see that they can make a vegetarian alternative for any dish on the menu!
Based on other reviews we were really looking forward to trying Thai upon Thames. Maybe it was just an off night but the food was really disappointing - tempura prawns covered in very heavy batter, average fish cakes, a main that was so salty it was inedible ( this was replaced without fuss but was still incredibly salty, and I love salt!). The best food was the stir fried broccoli in oyster sauce, really nice if a little expensive at £6 for a side. The waitress was really awkward too so overall a disappointing experience.
Needed fast service as going to rugby world cup match. We weren't disappointed. Food excellent and service A1. Will definitely go again.
We booked into this restaurant post RWC warm-up match because it was within convenient walking distance of Twickenham via St Margaret's, yet away from the crowds. We were made to feel very welcome, with attentive but not intrusive service. There was a wide choice of a range of authentic Thai dishes to suit most tastes. All our food was cooked exceptionally well and beautifully presented, whilst being good value for its high standard. The atmosphere would have been improved had there been more customers- I could not understand why there were not more, as we had a fabulous evening.
good food. good value. 4 of us dined had a bottle of wine/ 4 starters and 3 mains and total was £20 each! Good portions. Maybe not ideal for big groups as it was a bit small.
