The Admiral St David
The finest seasonal Welsh produce goes into creating the Australasian and Asia Pacific dishes on The Admiral menu. A great selection of fresh seafood is a nod to the restaurant's bayside setting, with treats like Welsh mussels with salted black beans, chilli and grilled lime, while the signature grill selection features grain-fed Celtic Pride sirloin steak with loa tomato salsa and shimeji mushrooms. There are also gourmet salads, and aromatic vegetarian Thai sweet potato curry.
Serving an exotic selection of gourmet treats in a chic waterside setting, The Admiral is right beside Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve, and an 11-minute walk from Cardiff Bay R
Lovely hotel, room was very comfortable and we were happy to get a balcony. Made use of the relaxing spa. Close to plenty of good restaurants and near to the city centre with plenty to do. Staff were extremely professional. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Good food, good service, good setting. The only thing to criticise is The Admirals inefficient recording of our visit to Open Table - we were recorded as “no shows” even though our names were checked upon arrival.
Lovely venue for a special birthday lunch. Attentive staff, excellent food and a very calm atmosphere. Very few other diners - seemed to get much busier for afternoon tea.
A lovely restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were all friendly & helpful.
The downsides were the portions were quite small for the amount you pay, the food was good but not amazing but i would still definitely go back there again.
Ate during day, sure views / atmosphere would be better at night but food / service was good
Lovely afternoon tea, beautiful food, beautifully presented by the wonderful staff.
Afternoon tea on Saturday was probably the best we've had! Imaginative, beautifully presented and well crafted. Service (Maximilian?) was excellent as well. Noise level was quite high, though.
Breakfast service on Saturday was a shambles! Sunday breakfast service really good - excellent waitress/hostess.
Breakfast gluten free options very limited with cheap and nasty quality gluten free bread. Presentation of a la carte breakfast dishes sadly lacking in any finesse, not even basic garnish. Grapefruit fermented, but pancakes really delicious.
The food was alringt, but I expected it to be a bit better for the amount they charge. I was a bit dissapointed by that.
The waiters were very nice and attentive in the beginning, however there was a huge Birthday celebration and another party going on at the same time, so our little table on the side received a much slower service in the end. We had to cancel our dessert order in the end because we were going to be late for our event in the evening. I don't know if we will give it another try, but I'm not opposed to recommending it to my friends to have a go.
Lovely restaurant on the bay. We had a great view of the beautiful Harvest Moon. The food was excellent and the atmosphere is lovely. Live music.
Really lovely experience. The staff were very attentive and the food and tea were lovely
Lovely gentleman’s tea. Setting is amazing with views of Cardiff Bay. Staff were not very attentative. Tables left with dirty crockery for long periods. Nonone asked if we wanted any more tea/coffee etc. Or if all was ok.
Very poor service for a 5 star hotel. Had 1 pot of tea, some of the cakes were nice but nothing special very disappointed.
We booked for Sunday lunch but as they had sold out of the roast beef and
could only offer gammon we did not stay as there was nothing on the menu that we wanted
I would have given five stars for the food but the beef was extremely rare. I'm fine with red in the middle but it was all red.
The food was great, but what made the meal truly stand out was the service. Attentive, friendly and precise.
The only tiny note: The music. we were seated underneath a speaker and the disco hits were too LOUD!
We went to the Admiral for a family birthday and it didn't disappoint. Wonderful evening thank you. Shame we live to far away!!
Excellent restaurant as always. The attending staff always give a very personalized, warm welcome. The manager, Carolina, personally greeted my friends from the girlguides group and welcomed them. We had our planning meeting with afternoon tea. The scones were perfectly made, buttery and soft. The various desserts and sandwiches were really well enjoyed and the girls loved the experience
If your going for Afternoon Tea, we left most of ours as it was too rich with the desserts.... I have been for a meal there also and that was lovely, the contrast is totally different.
We enjoyed the quality and value of the set menu - order before 18.45. The food was delicious and once the service hit its stride, it was good. Just seemed like asking to enjoy a drink on the terrace while choosing and waiting for the food to be cooked threw them completely to start with. For a hotel of this standard, it should be taken in their stride. Maybe it's us!
On arrival our booking wasn’t on the system as it hadn’t been updated. We sat outside as instructed and had drinks brought to us and added to our bill when we had food we were told to wait and they would come and get us when the table was ready. At 2.30pm (original booking 1.30) we hadn’t been called so went in and magically there was a table ready for us. Ordered the food and the starter came quickly and was lovely. Waiting 40mins for our main meal of which the meat was awful and full of fat I barely ate it. The waitress was lovely however we were treated very differently and perhaps didn’t have the right look for the place. Also we were served a lot slower than other tables. It was our first wedding anniversary and we had hoped for a special meal but instead couldn’t leave quicker! Very disappointing!
Very good food, great service by Massimiliano, wonderful restaurant
Lovely setting and staff. Shame about the food. Fish was dripping with grease, to the point I couldn’t even eat it. Waiter advised he would tell the chef so the same thing didn’t happen to someone else but no effort made in apologising. Husband thoroughly enjoyed his food however.
Staff were either inexperienced or poorly trained, I tried to buy a drink at the bar before our meal, I was asked to take a seat and by a member of staff who would then take my drink request, 10minutes went by with the member of staff talking to other staff, walking past us with no recollection of why we were waiting, I then decided to go back to the bar where the bar staff were very reluctant to serve me , eventually they agreed, I think I could have gotten mortgage with less fuss, the start to the experience was not the best, an older waiter I think who is Italian saved the day with his professionalism and humour . Young staff seemed to be overwhelmed by fear of making a mistake. No natural leaders in the room.
Very delicious food! Beautiful view! Wonderful location!
At the moment we couldn’t recommend this restaurant unfortunately. The food was good but the service from beginning to end was more than disappointing for an establishment of their standing
Couldn’t fault it! Food was lush and the service was brilliant!
Far from what we expected from a 5* hotel... More comparable to Wetherspoons if I am honest.
Delicious deserts lovely atmosphere
