The Admiral St David
The finest seasonal Welsh produce goes into creating the Australasian and Asia Pacific dishes on The Admiral menu. A great selection of fresh seafood is a nod to the restaurant's bayside setting, with treats like Welsh mussels with salted black beans, chilli and grilled lime, while the signature grill selection features grain-fed Celtic Pride sirloin steak with loa tomato salsa and shimeji mushrooms. There are also gourmet salads, and aromatic vegetarian Thai sweet potato curry.
Serving an exotic selection of gourmet treats in a chic waterside setting, The Admiral is right beside Cardiff Bay Wetlands Reserve, and an 11-minute walk from Cardiff Bay R
Nice restaurant, but although the food tasted lovely, it was very small portions for a very high price i also found the room a bit cold also. but the service was very good!
Terrible food and absolute waste of money. Service was ok
Having dined here before was keen to repeat experience particularly the chicken laksa. Whilst was still tasty it lacked sauce and was not into usual standard
Staff were as always brilliant and eager to please
Pint glass dirty
No cushion on chair
Didn’t get offered water till half way through meal
Fiancée starter slightly burnt
Excellent food and service. Waiting staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Food was scrummy! Would highly recommend
Overall a good experience - the Chicken Laksa in particular was superb! We booked an early table (6.30pm) to take advantage of the great value set menu (as advertised on the hotel’s website) but had to ask for it, as it seems to normally only be offered to residents on a DBB or Spa package.
Lovely waiter called Massimo - friendly and attentive. Vegetable spring roll starter was strangely anaemic and not good - but the Tom yam soup was good and the chateaubriand perfect. Tables were spaced a little too close together but as it was Valentines I would imagine they maximised space. We stayed at the hotel and would dine here again if/when we return.
Enjoyed the champagne afternoon tea. The champagne was delicious, the food was very good and the service was excellent. I had pomegranate tea for the first time and enjoyed it so much I had another pot.
The quality and quantity of the food was exceptional. The Welsh theme was amazing. Service was friendly and efficient. The best afternoon tea I've experienced (and I've had a few!!)
10 out of 10!
Excellent food and service .... worth the wait as everything for fresh and perfect.
We ate from the set menu and it was delicious. Asian-influenced eating that is more akin to a good Asian restaurant than a hotel kitchen. Plenty of spice and heat which we love. Service was patchy until the maitre d' arrived and then everything sharpened up noticeably.
I booked the meal as part of my husband’s 40th birthday weekend. We booked for 6.30pm to take advantage of the £17.50 two course meal between 5-7pm, as shown on the website. We were told the 2 course deal wasn’t available to us, despite the table next to us getting it (they were allowed it as it was part of their spa package) we only had a main meal and a drink in the end, the irony is we would have spent more overall if we’d been allowed the 2 course meal as advertised. The main meal we had was lovely, I can’t fault the taste or presentation of the food.
Tasty food in a lovely location. The 3 course Sunday lunch was fantastic, particularly the roast beef and potatoes.
Really enjoyed our experience. However in the beginning (after having finished one pot of tea) no one came to follow up. After a while we needed to chase this up. I brought my 4 year old twins with us and Brendan was superb with them. He gave them some colouring items and said he would come back and the winner would get a prize. As expected he couldn't choose between and gave them both this amazing bear. Honestly was expecting a couple of sweets. This made the day most definitely, but did have me wondering why the colouring items were not offered sooner. Anyway thanks so much Brendan!
Really good quality food, and generous portions for the money. Great helpful service, not rushed but just the right pace. My husband, who adores cheese, said the cheeseboard was excellent!! My poached pear was delicious and very unusual. A really lovely Birthday treat. Thank you
The table we placed in having a reservation was rocky and we had to move it was within 2 feet of the couple next to us, given the restaurant was only 25% full at best was poor and unthinking at best
I identified my wife to be glutton free (an intolerance rather than allergy), on reservation and that it was her birthday.
I was embarrassed that she was given a standard menu on arrival and when querying glutton free she was given an “encyclopaedia” of information with no explanation and which bore no reference to the menu on offer. It was also clear that whoever had put this together had little understanding of glutton free meant as some items identified as containing glutton my
Having ordered we had 2 further visits to say that the chosen item was not available glutton free and had to change her mind.
The food I received, the fish of the day, was on a cold plate and quickly became Luke warm
All in all not a good experience and no reference to her birthday!!!!
Gorgeous food, excellent service. Look forward to visiting again!
Some of our party had afternoon tea and others had food from the main menu. All were good. The online menu for afternoon tea wasn’t what was available- but it wasn’t a big problem and the cakes tasted better than they looked (they were very bright colours!)
Staff were friendly. I nearly cancelled after seeing reviews on trip advisor but was glad I didn’t and would definitely come again.
The waiting staff were very good but they were let down by the quality of the food. The presentation of the dishes was not up to the standard one would expect from a 5 star hotel.By no stretch of the imagination could one describe the dishes as even remotely resembling haute cuisine.Perhaps the answer would be to improve the presentation even if they had to charge a bit more.As things were it was no better than the average pub restaurant.
Fantastic afternoon tea for Son's birthday on Christmas eve. Wonderful service, would highly recommend
Fantastic evening . Food was fantastic. One gluten free guest catered for excellently. Ambience was good, live music but not too loud. Male members of the party were a little disappointed with the wine list. But overall greatly enjoyed by everyone
Really welcoming friendly staff, food was delicious the peppercorn sauce we had with our steak was the nicest we have ever had! The menu could have been a little more varied but that won’t put us off coming back and we have recommended to friends and they have booked to come in a few weeks time, we hope they enjoy as much as we did
Absolutely fabulous food and service. It was a 30th birthday present for my daughter and a really lovely finishing touch was a birthday surprise at the end. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the afternoon tea as a celebratory get together - very well done!!
Great staff, food was ok good wine and cocktail selection
Everything about our Sunday roast was really good! I will be going back. The only thing that surprised us was a couple came into the restaurant with dressing gowns on and bare feet!!!
Excellent, efficient and friendly service. Food was excellent! Overall a good dining experience.
Really nice atmosphere even though there were xmas parties there the seating arrangements were well worked out to maintain privacy. Maximilliano was a great waiter and was helpful with allergy advice. Recommended
Beautiful views overlooking the bay. Peaceful calm atmosphere. Everything was explained well as regards to the food. Lovely sandwiches and equisite cakes.
Amazing stay! Staff were so attentive and made our weekend so special!
We had afternoon tea, 2 Welsh & 1 Vegan. The staff were welcoming & professional, the service, quality of produce & experience overall, was wonderful. I would certainly recommend the Admiralty to friends & family. The chef even brought out extras & we were given boxes to take home the few bits we had left. Amazing array of teas to choose from too, expertly demonstrated. Congratulations, all round.
Very poorly coordinated service and 1 table attendant who was unfriendly made this less of a pleasant experience than I expected.
We dressed smartly but there were other guests in dressing gowns, obviously from the spa.
We were charged for 2 items we did not order which had to be pointed out.
We were celebrating my mother’s 90th birthday. We were looked after by catrin. She described the menu for us very well. She really is a valued member of your team. The food was very tasty and was as described by catrin. My mother was really looked after amazingly. I would recommend dining at The admiral st David. Fantastic views and ambiance was good. My only niggle was 4 ladies came in from the spa in dressing gowns and no shoes. I am aware there is a bar up stairs for their use and would not expect to see this in a formal restaurant.
Limited number of vegetarian options. Various options chosen between 8 of us. Most were too spicey for us. Portions very large. Well presented. Would prefer smaller portions for less money for lunch.
Excellent wait staff. Very attentive.
I took my parents to Afternoon tea here on Sunday and was very impressed. It is in a lovely location and the service was great. I really liked that it wasn’t just sandwiches for the savoury bit and that it was so obviously a Welsh Afternoon Tea.
Even though we had a lovely time a few of us would have liked more than two sandwiches there was a lot of cakes and as a vegetarian and my daughter a vegan we were also suppose to have an oggy pastie unfortunately we didn’t for £25 I would have also expected a larger scone I think you pay for the location which was lovely the staff were exceptional and loved the view
Upon arrival we were told to sit down rather than go to the bar. 20 mins later I had to remind staff of our drinks order and saw at least 2 others doing the same. Once seated for dinner we had to wait a long time for a drinks order and the food took ages.. although the food was very tasty the service level definitely let's the place down.
The afternoon tea was delicious an interesting selection of cakes, we were all very impressed with the Welsh theme. Lovely atmosphere and we liked our complimentary prosecco very much.
Massiamo was amazing, food was fantastic, great music and views over the bay. We had a brilliant dinner celebrating our anniversary and new baby-to-be.
Lovely place, great food and excellent service. My only criticism is that there's usually a wait at the entrance for someone to seat you. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
We had an Amazing Sunday Roast here, Food, Service, Value for money was all excellent. We will be back soon.
