A very disappointing excuse for a five star hotel restaurant.
Menu is pub food, presentation and quality of food is not up to pub food.
There does not appear to be any attention to detail in menu and dish design, cooking, presentation and overall standards.
Made welcome immediately despite being 30 minutes early. Restaurant was relatively quiet, a Tuesday lunchtime, table overlooking the bay provided. Shared a couple of tasters/starters and were impressed by the waitress asking then if we were ready for the mains to be cooked. Salmon for my wife and crab linguine fir myself were both perfectly cooked. More expensive than your "standard" restaurant but worth the extra fir the views and service.
Very disappointed, booked afternoon tea for my sister’s 50th birthday . No table laid, when it was my sister was given a saucer and not a plate ! We promptly left , absolutely appalling will certainly not be returning or recommending. Total disappointment for me as I had booked this as part of a weekend birthday trip to Cardiff.
Our evening meal was like dining in a Health Club Cafe. Not a 5 star experience in any way.
Breakfast was a very busy Open Buffet that we were very surprised at since Covid infections a rising. Unfortunately, not an enjoyable experience at all and we will not return.
Lovely place to visit for dinner, a great menu selection and reasonably priced. Service and staff were excellent.
We had a lovely meal with fantastic service as always at The Admiral @vocostdavids
Overall, a good night. Service could have been a bit more attentive.
Limited menu, even more so if you have dietary requirements. Food was ok. Staff were lovely .
It was a beautiful setting but not much choice on the menu, there were lots of desserts unavailable too.
The restaurant was quiet on attendance, the food was good quality, pricey for what it was, very basic menu.
Outstanding experience at the Admiral. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and the staff knew this and made us feel so special and ensured we had a lovely table.
The customer experience and overall service from start to finish was exemplary, friendly, courteous and so welcoming. Steve who looked after us at our table could not do enough to make sure our meal was the best it could be. Nothing was too much trouble, he built great rapport with my wife and I early and made really good recommendations for the wine we had. Definitely recommend the Sartori Pinot. Thanks Steve and the team for such a superb evening.
The food choice was excellent, the quality of the salmon and the sirloin were top drawer and both were cooked to perfection.
From start to finish our visit to the Admiral was an absolute pleasure and thanks to all the team. A strong advocate and can’t wait to visit again in the future.
Tom was our waiter - we loved him! He was very helpful without being in your face.
Service was exceptionally slow - 45 mins from arrival to a glass of water. Food bland. Worse than average.
Fantastic experience, lovely setting with great food and service, would highly recommend
During an afternoon trip service was slow but when I returned for the dinner booking it had significantly improved.
The confit Duck was great!
Service was excellent, professional and friendly. Very nice atmosphere.
Lovely, bright and well appointed restaurant with pleasant and helpful staff. The menu is not extensive but the food was excellent and the chefs were able to do a one off request such as crayfish linguine as the crab was off the menu. The only aspect we were a bit perplexed about was ordering aperitifs, as we were not offered a drink while we looked at the menu. When we did we were surprised when Pimms was served in a tumbler with lemonade on the side rather than pre-mixed with fruit etc., This was corrected when we explained how it should be served and were told that this is how 'the company' sets out how bar staff are to serve it. Very strange as Pimms is the quintessential British summer drink and the bottle label sets out how it should be served. Not a big deal but not what we expected form a 5* hotel. In saying that the Rose wine we had was very pleasant.
Lovely place to enjoy lunch on a hot day. Stunning views
Views lovely - across Cardiff bay
Friendly waiting staff over stretched and inexperienced - no supervisor to advise them on how to do things properly. No idea about breathing wine. Felt like they were feeling harassed.
Food decent but not amazing; nice steak
Menu pretty basic, not exciting
Wine list very short and unimaginative
excellent menu: simple but not run of the mill. We ordered fish and chips, all of top quality ( though fish not particularly chunky and crushed peas rather sparse).
Service was sweet-tempered and efficient. Ambiance on a sunny Friday afternoon was breezy, uncrowded, very relaxing, understated decor perfectly suited to the harbour views. Good value for the pleasant and civilized quality of the experience: I will return and would sincerely recommend The Admiral St David.
Great food with amazing service from Tom. Lovely setting with views.
Yummy food. The fish and chips were amazing!! Friendly staff.
The food came very late and was undercooked (the potatoes were still hard) despite the fact that it was not that busy
Starters were done very well but the mains were disappointing - not what you'd expect from a restaurant in a 5 * hotel at all
Would not come again for an evening meal.
Lovely atmosphere with great views and excellent food.
Great service, really nice food and great views. Seemed to be very warm in the restaurant so air con could have been a bit cooler - I’m being picky here, it’s a place I’ll go back to without doubt.
Unbelievable service, food and atmosphere. Can’t fault anything. Incredible. Both myself and the Mrs more than happy.
Over priced and hardly any choice
We order 2 x chicken Kiev to be told they only had one left !
It was 7.30 pm
Only 2 desserts offered one of which was vegan !
We had a lovely server who's name was Tom. The service was amazing, he was friendly, funny and always made sure our food was up to standard and our drinks were filled. The food tasted and looked amazing too! Definitely reccomend.
Disappointed but venue resolved complaint whilst at the hotel. The female waitress was patronising and rude.
Really enjoyable experience. Service was a little slow. Not enough staff on for Saturday afternoon.
Lovely surroundings overlooking the bay. Limited menu but the food we chose was tasty and well presented. Excellent service from our waiter Tom. We will return
Always a pleasure and lunch was a treat.
My only issue was I had stated in my booking to be seated by the window so we could enjoy the great views. My request was not acknowledged or even mentioned and we were put on a table away from the window.
I realise we have to social distance but acknowledging my request would have been useful.
Excellent food and cocktails, drinks service was a little slow but would definitely return.
Lovely views, great staff there. We did occasionally have to hail people over to order more drinks though. Food selection wasn't that great but all of our food was really enjoyable! We were spoiled with some sparkling on the house as we were a small party with a bride to be.
Unfortunately reservation for 1.30
Greeted and order taken quickly but at 2.30 we still had not received any food, apparently our order had got lost
We then had starters
On the house to compensate but the food arrived quite quickly after that and we were left u U.K. ncomfortably full. Not too good
I was visiting Wales to see my elderly Grandmother who hasn’t been able to go anywhere since the beginning of the first lockdown last year. I wanted to take her somewhere special for afternoon tea and this didn’t disappoint. Beautiful location, light and airy restaurant which felt very safe and of course fabulous food. I cannot fault the staff or any other aspect. Thank you it was lovely to see her smiling!
very nice restaurant, great location just on the waters of Cardiff Bay. Modern-stile, food with decisive and interesting taste. Would definitely recommend.
Service was great, very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Generally the staff were very helpful and polite.
The dining room was a light airy room, with stunning views over the bay, comfortable seating, overall the food was very good & the service was impeccable.
The meal was excellent, the staff were very attentive. we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
