   Waited 40 minutes for afternoon tea, despite having booked it way in advance and only one other table being occupied. Cakes appeared to have been frozen then defrosted, causing strange texture. Enjoyed cauliflower dish, sandwiches and scone.

   The variety and the quality of the menu can't be any better. Unfortunately the food takes too long to arrive and what's worse, you can't walk in but have to book a table, even if there were enough staff to do this for you (or, at least, let you know there was this option, instead of dismissing you entirely). We saw at least 3 parties entering and leaving, being turned away or ignored, even if there were enough tables to sit them. The restaurant is a tapas sort of place. The food takes a long while to arrive, even when it's not at all full, and the staff don't seem interested in helping you have a good experience. For example, we ordered 5 dishes, but the staff (3 people who tended to disappear every so often or talk to each other and forget customers) only brought us plates to eat from after a long while after we had 4 dishes of food in front of us. They apologised for the long wait for our food but didn't offer any compensation for it and a service charge is automatically added to the bill. As a vegan place the concept is outstanding and we really wanted to be able to give a more favourable review. We walked past a series of better reviewed restaurants (the reviews on Google for The Allotment mentioned the quality of the food, not of the whole unprofessional experience) because, being vegetarian, we are really wanted to try this place out.

   Overall we enjoyed our experience, however there is much room for improvement in that we had to wait 20 mins for starters and a long wait again for mains. The shared platter was very dull and the hummus, which they forgot to bring was disappointing. The tofu laksa was very tasty but the popadom so greasy I didn’t eat it. The chocolate tartare was delicious and well presented. My partner had been looking forward to the aubergine burger but it wasn’t available ( at 7pm). This happened to us before when there was no fish and chips. So enjoyed the meal overall but will probably not come back.

   I had the afternoon tea a few months back and it was amazing so I decided to take another friend and I was very disappointed the sandwiches were tiny pieces of bread with a bit of something on them but were too small and very untidy. When I went in June the sandwiches were amazing and full slices of bread. I also think we may have been overcharged but we didn’t see the menu to check. I think they have become popular so the standards have dropped which is a shame. Never got told about unlimited tea either and as I didn’t see a menu I didn’t know until I get home .

   We waited an hour for the most average food. Boiled broccoli, fried chips and bread. All 3 of us eating woke up with dodgy stomachs and was generally very unimpressed.

   Exceptional vegan food at very reaonable prices (particularly for city centre location), and great mocktails. Attentive but relaxed service. Will definitely be visiting again.

    Gorgeous afternoon tea as a belated birthday present. Both me and my dad loved it. Great good, lovely decor, and nice atmosphere.
